Re: What books would you recommend?

The biggest slow down of combat in my experience is Player Decision Making.

On the table top I give players about 15-20 seconds. If you can't think of a maneuver between that and waiting for other players actions to resolve. . . oh well.

I've discovered this as well. I simply remove the problem at the source and have stopped using players.

My games are much faster and have even benefited from never straying from the storyline...Win/Win if you ask me.

@Killer Shrike: adjustable hit locations sounds very interesting. Unfortunately, so many books, so little money :(

About 10 years ago we were playing my Demon HUNTER: FBI campaign and we noticed that when making called shots, we tended to either hit or totally miss. Basically calling a shot was an all or nothing. The effect of this was, highly skilled shooters would tend make more called shots and consequently miss more often than those who just pulled the trigger and hoped for the best.

I implemented a house rule to favor high-skill without requiring called shots. The rule was, simply roll to hit and roll for location as normal, and then you could move the hit location by the degree of success on the roll to hit. So if you hit by 3 and rolled location 12 you could opt to hit any one location from 9 thru 15.

High-skill shooters tend to make their to hits by more, giving them greater latitude to hit something preferential.

It works pretty well at the heroic level where margins of success are lower.

Its pretty easy to bind up and get your stuff printed' date=' its always easier to hold a book in your hand to look things up than to browse the internet.[/quote']

I actually disagree. But, I hate hardcopy and don't even own a printer.

On the net I can open multiple windows/tabs and compare pages, pages and whole documents are searchable quickly and easily. . .

I find digital so much friendlier.

Well possibly so :) But I do prefer a nice book over an internet connection, it's never down or offline or suffering a power outage, and I don't need to have a wifi connection or a cord. It's just always there, like a good friend.
