Challenge: Build the AC-130U and A-10 Assault Aircraft (for shadowcat1313)

Seriously, I'd like to see someone stat up the A-130U and A-10 aircraft. They seem excessively kick-ass for something in use by the Army. I'm not really a military tech-geek, so I defer to others more savvy. :)

Meanwhile, the A-10 Warthog is just ridiculous-looking. Its Gatling Cannon is bigger than a VW beetle!

To nit-pick in the nicest possible way, both these aircraft are operated by the US Air Force, NOT the Army. As is noted on their Wiki entries.

Re: Challenge: Build the AC-130U and A-10 Assault Aircraft (for shadowcat1313)

If you really want to blow up the damage curve, stipulate that a Maverick ATGM can one-shot an Abrams(I believe this is still true?), regardless of where it hits.

7.62mm NATO = 2d6+1 KA, +1 STUN Multiple (about 8-9 DC)

20mm M-61 should be = 3d6+1/+1 STUN or 3.5d6/+1 STUN (12 to 14 DC)

25mm , go up 1 DC and change the +1 STUN to AP: 3.5d6 AP or 4d6 AP(up to 15 DC)

30mm, 4d6 AP Pen +1 STUN (Note that modern tank defenses are not Impenetrable...yet). (24 DC!)

ROF should be either AF 10/20, or maybe a funky AoE with doubled damage and reduced penetration(IOW, if you're in the AoE, you're getting tagged by a couple rounds, at least).

The 105 mm is a 4.5 d6 or 5d6 AoE Explosion, 32m radius

cluster bombs will cover a fairly large radius relatively evenly, so maybe a straight AoE rather than explosion for that

My understanding was that these are US Army support vehicles. The Air Force deprecates them because the service is about air superiority, while these craft are unlikely to ever down an enemy jet. :)

Re: Challenge: Build the AC-130U and A-10 Assault Aircraft (for shadowcat1313)

I've seen a figure of 14 hours of maintenance needed per hour the gunships are in the air reported several places

CAPT. JAMES MAY [AC-130 Maintenance Officer]: We’re flying the wings off them literally.

MARTIN: Capt. James May says cracks are already starting to show in the wings, which will have to be replaced five years ahead of schedule – and that’s just the wings. For every hour of flying, a gunship needs 14 hours of maintenance.

MAY: These airframes are getting so old that we’ve got stuff breaking on them that has never broken before.

MARTIN: But on this flight, it’s the guns that break down. First, the 40mm cannon jams –

CREW MEMBER: This is horrible.

MARTIN: – then the big 105mm Howitzer refuses to fire on automatic. A few love taps with a wrench, but still no go.

CREW MEMBER: They’re just old and tired. It’s all right, old girl.

for emergency field repairs whats the modifier for "Love Tap with a Wrench"

the above conversation snippet was from a CBS evening news interview

by comparison the F-15 requires 8-10 hours IIRC

That's true enough where the Spectre is concerned; the Thunderbolt II/Warthog, on

the other hand... well, let's just say that, should the pilot of this particular bird find

an enemy plane in his gunsight and well within his range, he'll hardly be deterred

from sending a burst of 30mm shells up the other guy's fourth point of contact.
