New Monster: Introducting the Ever-Combustible Purple Jelly

While working on my D&D to Fantasy HERO game, I found myself in need of at least one new monster (half of my group has played D&D extensively - I needed something they've never gone up against). So I decided to take the Deadly Ooze from the Bestiary and tweak it a bit.

Let me know what you think.

Re: New Monster: Introducting the Ever-Combustible Purple Jelly

I wonder what the consequences for the dungeon would be of having the jelly perpetually on fire. If there are other critters in the labyrinth (as there are in most) they might need interesting ways to interact with its presence. There are places where it might be useful for pest control and for warming cold areas, and places where it would be a bloody nuisance such as where anything important is stored -- and since it's a mindless blob it can't be trusted to know the difference!

New use for all those ten-foot pits.

Try a twist. Its a normal looking ooze until they try to burn it.

Then it explodes into napalm like little bits. an area effect attack that engulfs the party and keeps on burning.

Heck, it doesn't even have to die right away. you can apply fire AND acid damage to the party.

I GM'd a lot of DnD. An old trick I used was to take a familiar monster and just change its shape. I took a Sea Hag, called it a corrupted dryad, and described it as a beautiful but wild looking maiden clad only in leaves. The players freaked out when the attacks came...

A grimlock became undead dwarfs digging up grave yards from the movie (I can't remember the name right now).

Its actually pretty fun.
