Ranxerox
Re: NASA: Patron of Hard Sci-Fi? That sounds great. I wonder how long we have to wait before we get some books out of this deal.
RexMundi
Re: NASA: Patron of Hard Sci-Fi? Bleh, there is already plenty of really good Hard Sci Fi out there. I'd rather not have NASA screw things up by getting involved. Just sit back and let the real authors have access to the pretty pictures and terminology. ~Rex
Escafarc
Re: NASA: Patron of Hard Sci-Fi? It's the new NASA: We don't have to go to Mars lets just write about it. It's the same thing, right?
RexMundi
Re: NASA: Patron of Hard Sci-Fi? Yeah unfortunately. Shame they've been beat to even THAT punch since how....the early 1900's, possibly 1800's, heh.... ~Rex

They also just announced they are working on a MMORPG. http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/61915/NASAs-Astronaut-Moon-Mars-and-Beyond-Announced Astronaut: Moon, Mars and Beyond is the newest NASA game to be announced, and this time it's a MMO. Set in the year 2035, you will embark on an adventure into space, Mars, the asteroid belt and the outer planets. You will uncover secrets about a threat to civilization as we know it. Here are some notes on the upcoming game: Real science, technology, engineering, mathematics and physics content is infused throughout the AMMB universe. Astronauts may pick from several character classes, including several types of Engineer, Physicists, and Pilots. AMMB is currently being developed using the Unreal Engine 3 platform. A playable beta is expected in December 2012. NASA sponsored the selection in the MMO competition, and Project Whitecard and WisdomTools comprise the winning team! The game is being built for iOS and PC. Astronaut: Moon, Mars and Beyond is looking for backers, if you would like to donate to the project, visit the game's KickStarter site. Ranxerox
Re: NASA: Patron of Hard Sci-Fi? Getting young people interested in space exploration is necessary if they is to be any actual space exploration. I'm not say that you are bunch of grumpy old men who are bitter because space exploration has largely passed our generation by. Oh, what the heck, yes I am. There is no down side to this announcement except that it is too late for us.

Christopher
Re: NASA: Patron of Hard Sci-Fi? Can you cause the nuclear waste dump to explode? Nope. None in this version of the base. Short story: Meteor Strikes hits. damage Life support. You have 30 Minutes to repair the damage. Repair parts (can be accelerated with a version of wire loop game), replace them if to heavy damaged, drive the moon rover (to move parts faster/move faster). For half the mission you have ti use small robots to do the work. But seems to be near impossible as single player ("it's designed to show the teamwork aspect of a moon mission").
