  1. Re: The Big Arguments Killershrike is correct in his view of the design intent for Shape Shift. I've emailed Steve Long when the 5th Edition came out asking for some clarification on the intent of Shape Shift. If you email him directly, I'm sure you'll find that Killershrike is correct on how the power is supposed to work. Killershrike, your posts do come across as condescending, although I'm sure that was not your intent. Not sure what advise I could give you to help you keep that from happening. Phil, to try to help clarify how Shape Shift was intended to work I'll use a concrete example. You could use Shape Shift to Look, Feel, Sound, Taste, Smell, and for all intents "Appear" to be a wooden chair. Anyone who saw you would see a wooden chair. They could tap your legs and they would sound like and feel like wood. The could smell the wood smell that you would have. However, they could not sit in the chair like a normal wooden chair. Why? Because you are not a chair. Your body is not made of actual wood, you don't have the density, nor the tensile strength of wood. The configuration of your flesh and blood body has changed to match the volume shape of the chair. The surface of you body has changed to appear to be same as a wooden chair, but inside you're still the same flesh and blood person you started out as. Someone sitting on you would know that they were not sitting in a wooden chair, even if you were strong enough to hold them. Why? Because you don't act like a wooden chair that's being sat on. That's not to say they would know that the wooden chair was a Shape Shifter, but simply that there's something wrong with the wooden chair. Not sure if this helps you understand what Steve Long had in mind, but the power does work the way it was intended. Just My Humble Opinion - Christopher Mullins
  2. Re: New Power: Damage Shield Construction Actually, I've updated it more clearly reflect the idea. I was thinking of 'per die' instead of Damage Class. Not sure how much difference it makes one way or another. Is Transform an Adjustment Attack or something else altogether? I ask because I wasn't thinking of Transform as applying to this, but now I'll have to check. - Christopher Mullins
  3. Another thread inspired me to take another stab at not only fixing the cost of Damage Shield, but make it a more consistent flexible construct to work with. Feel free to contribute and give opinions on what you like and dislike. I don't want sidethreads on why my construct isn't needed or why it will never be used. I'm asking for help to create something that I will use and if others like it, then they can use also. Damage Shield: A character with this power will deliver damage to an opponent who attacks and successfully hits the character (HTH). Furthermore, this damage is also delivered when the character attacks and successfully hits an opponent (HTH). A character can only have one Damage Shield (GM permission required for more). Standard Power/Attack Power Constant No Range Costs Endurance Damage Types 20 Pts/1d6 Adjustment Damage 10 Pts/1d6 Normal Damage 20 Pts/1d6 Killing Damage 15 Pts/1d6 Mental Damage 10 Pts/1d6 Cosmetic Transform 15 Pts/1d6 Minor Transform 20 Pts/1d6 Major Transform For a more detailed and accurate costing of attack powers, consult the following list: Adjustment Drain (25 Pts/1d6): Additional Drain per phase of constant contact. [No Cap] Suppress (25 Pts/1d6): Additional Suppress per phase of constant contact. [Cumulative] Transfer (25 Pts/1d6) Standard Dispel (5 Pts/1d6): All Or Nothing Energy Blast (10 Pts/1d6) Entangle (15 Pts/1d6) Flash (10 Pts/1d6) Killing Attack (25 Pts/1d6) Telekinesis aka STR (5 Pts/1d6): Must have set effect (Grab and Throw, etc) Transform - Cosmetic (10 Pts/1d6) Transform - Minor (15 Pts/1d6) Transform - Major (25 Pts/1d6) Mental Ego Attack (15 Pts/1d6): Adders Touch (+5 Points): Damage is delivered when anyone/anything touches the character. (The GM may require the player to take the Side Effect Limitation with this adder) Add STR To Killing (+5 Points): This changes the Killing Attack into a HKA type of attack. Advantages Reduced Endurance (+1/4, +1/2) Persistent (+1/2) Limitations Normal Damage Does Stun Only (-0) Defensive Only (-1/4): This power only damages an attacker and does no damage when the character attacks others.

  19. Re: All stats are 2/+1 I'm not sure about the Mental aspect of that, however, you still missed one thing or are not equating proper value. Combat Levels are assigned to one task per phase and once assigned can't be changed. By buying stats, you get them simultaneously, all the time. Based on this, most skills, at the 5pt Level and greater, can not equate to the same usefulness granted via stats. Therefore I don't see why skills must be more cost effective. It should be close, but could be less cost effective, or more cost effective. Not sure that skills can truely equate to the same effectiveness as the benefit granted via stats. But that's just my humble opinion. Others may disagree. - Christopher Mullins
  20. Re: How to kill a PC? Super Virus Scenario: Supervillian creates a super virus/chemical that affects even the toughest brick. The virus/chemical works slowly and allows the afflicted to try to track down the villian and capture/kill him. Only to find out that they are too late to prevent their own demise. This also gives them the chance to address people and/or donate thier bodies to science to further the good. - Christopher Mullins
  21. Re: All stats are 2/+1 A 5pt Combat Level can be used as OCV or DCV on each phase. Whether this is still cost effective is another matter. This particular change is much more interesting than many of the others discussed here. - Christopher Mullins
