  1. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever I could and I did.
  2. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Because Firelord is mad? He wants to wring Spidey's neck? The last thing he wants is to move away from Spidey because he's working off of emotions not reason?
  3. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever That is a very dishonest representation of what he said.
  4. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Hey, you're doing a great job, and bringing up awesome points here but feel free to add anything I've said that didn't come to mind so Chuckg can respond to the ideas. It's not really fair to the poor guy for him to get so thoroughly retorted and not realize how "covered" his points are from every angle between your responses, Gary's, and mine... and some other fine fellows who dabble in the thread a bit.

  9. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever He's called me a liar for much the same sort of mistake but I'd chalk it up to not catching the significance of the earlier panel while he's hunting for support for his position rather than willful deception - not that he'd give me anything close to that sort of benefit.
  10. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Dude, showing the actual page was the worst thing you could have done to win your case. In one panel it suggests that Spider-Man was a whirling dervish of fists, elbows, and feet. It's wrong-headed to try to count all of the 'faded Spider-Man' figures to figure out how many times the writer and artist intended Firelord got hit to be knocked down. That's not how this stuff works. Anybody reading comics should understand what symbolism is.
  11. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever The few while Firelord was already down is probably why Firelord was out for a long time.

  13. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Why would anyone get the notion that Spidey would have to stun him with the first punch. Spidey is fast. It's an established part of action movies and comic books that somebody can hit you rapidly, i.e. fast enough that you don't have time to react to the first punch, to the point that you are eventually stunned.
  14. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever I can understand why. It's only fair to make Chuckg live up to a standard he tries to require of others. BTW, I mis-typed: I think Cap can stun Rhino.
  15. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Hey, remember that Marvel Team-Up where Spider-Man went back in astral form a la Dr. Strange to the time of Kull, I believe, and was viewed as a Spider God or Spider Spirit?
  16. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever You still think you can dissect a comic book panel by panel and assume nothing happened in-between? You still think that artists and writers count how many times they have a super swing punches in a barrage to defeat someone? I think there is a real problem with how you read comics in general if you take this sort of legalistic approach that is something that is essentially a work of art and literature. Laws don't have subtext or hidden meaning. Art and literature do.
  17. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Cap's got a cool shield and maximum human strength, possibly superhuman strength depending on the issue, and he's a comic book's idea of what the world's greatest martial artist can do in terms of damage - I have no problem with the idea that he can't stun the Rhino with that Shield.
  18. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever No, it's you getting simple math wrong, probably not because of a lack of the ability to understand that there is no contradiction. NO! And it doesn't matter in the slightest. Does Thor hit as hard without his hammer as he does with it? NO! And it doesn't matter in the slightest. There's so much more to knocking someone out than the brute force of one strike and I think you know that.
  19. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Why is he going on about this? Spidey doesn't have to hit as hard as Thor to KO Firelord if he hits Firelord more often and/or if Firelord is not willing the Power Cosmic to bolster his defenses.
  20. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever It works like this: Spidey doesn't hit as hard as Thor but Spidey hits with a value of Firelord's toughness + a whereas Thor hits with a value of Firelord's toughness + a( so all Spidey has to do is hit Firelord "b" more times than Thor for whatever number it would take Thor to cause Firelord to go down. See, Spidey doesn't have to hit as hard as Thor. That's what, pre-algebra?
  21. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever The part in bold goes to the crux of the matter - Only simplistic thinking would require this to be the conclusion of Spider-Man's victory over Firelord. Only stubborness or a trigger-happy ignore button would cause someone to reiterate this sort of simplistic thinking after it's been explained how Spidey could have hurt Firelord multiple times over in this thread and others.
  22. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Firelord takes Thor and Herc more seriously as threats and uses the power cosmic to augment his defenses. Spidey didn't have to "con stun" Firelord with his first hit. He had to unleash a barrage of punches so fast that Firelord couldn't react until he really coulnd't react - Spidey is fast, especially in a panic. Silly question - what league is Spidey in - you need to define what you're talking about. Could Spidey beat Thor or Herc? Yes.
  23. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Yep, Spidey has been able to pound on Rhino on more than one occasion. Another problem with the premise that the side that argues Spidey can't put any hurt on Firelord is that it is based on the false assumption that Spidey's punches are proportionately as powerful as a typical person's in relation to his lifting strength. Considering the body mechanics of Spider-Man, his flexibility, and his heightened awareness it makes me think that he can throw a meaner punch than his published press strength in the OHOTMU would indicate.
  24. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Any sudden movement? Galactus doesn't have to move to make sure Reed doesn't move either. He's Galactus with a huge honking cosmic power pool. A Blowfish can paralyze someone. You would think Galactus could do the same and he definitely has demonstrated powers of telekinesis. There is no reason for me to believe he couldn't have either paralyzed or disintegrated Reed while simultaneously anchoring the Ultimate Nullifier with telekinesis to prevent it from being activated. Again, Marvel Earth should have been destroyed if they wanted to maintain any believability and consistency... using your model for how this stuff should be resolved in story.
  25. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever - you are calling using another person's argument against them a trollish act but Chuckg's repeated attacks on the character of people who don't agree with him doesn't cause you to respond in like manner? I assume you are going to ignore such behavior because he agrees with you whereas you're going to pretend a standard method of disproving a premise is somehow trollish because the person using it doesn't agree with you.
