Re: THE FALLOUT BRIGADE: Ongoing P-A HERO campaign design
Not bad. I'm gearing up in the aspects of Post-Apoc. Steve Long's decision to do that for the next big book has moved me to a project of my own. The project is, however, top secret. I like your theme. It certainly fits well in the genre.

And then after Global Warming' date=' in a few millenia, its Global Cooling again because nobody is producing enough CO2. Damn those climate cycles. [/quote']Wow... the first time I have encountered someone other than myself that acknowledges the climate cycle.
Not that we should be RUSHING the warming period or anything, but still.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
Didn't we have a flame-fest concerning this issue last year?We have two. Yes, two SUVs in our family. My wife feels safer driving them.
If you don't like it. Tough Titty Twisters. Worry about something important.
Like Global Warming, no wait... that isn't important enough to merit support.
Like Peak Oil, bah that is a conspiracy theory and nothing more.
I know... why d20 sucks!

Meh.

Re: Space Wizards: Bows & Firearms
Examples I thought of that might or might not be appropriate for the genre:
A bow that uses the tension of drawing back the string to charge a plasma cannon so that when released, fires a shot of plasma.
A tension memory string that eases drawing for the regular user. The bow essentually lowers the STR Min to use as well as is an Individual Focus, not a Universal Focus.

Re: Space Wizards: Bows & Firearms
I would mind seeing teched up bows.

Re: Greatest Post-Apoc Film of All Time
Correct...And obviously nobody on these boards but me has seen Last Man On Earth starring Vincent Price, but have seen the awful remake The Omega Man.This is terrible.
Seen it? I own it and have watched it two or three times now.

Re: Space Wizards: Bows & Firearms
Can you either elaborate on what Space Wizards is or provide a link that will? I can't answer the question without more information.

Re: Greatest Post-Apoc Film of All Time
I wouldn't classify dystopic futures like Rollerball, Soylent Green, Death Race 2000 or even Equilibrium or V For Vendetta as post-apocalypse. For me the "apocalypse" part means the breakdown of large-scale society. The defining PA movie is The Road Warrior, of course. The best is probably either Planet of the Apes or The Matrix.
If the Matrix took place in the "real world" I'd call it PA but 95% of the movie takes place in the Matrix. For this reason, I don't see the movie as a PA at all.

Yup. I think they did. I got a violation because of it in fact. I posted expecting the autocensor to fix the word noticed it didn't' date=' but before I could fix it I got called away from my desk and didn't get a chance to. [/quote']Just wanted to clarify RPMiller that you got a warning. Warnings aren't really a big deal.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
Yup. No profanity filter anymore. My recollection was that Dan's reasons for using it in the past had been that he and the DOJ staff didn't have the time or inclination to police the boards for profanity, so they were willing to take the (sometimes amusing) false positives. Now that there are a lot more people available to police such things, the thought is that people should be able to police themselves, and that if they can't there are enough of us to hopefully catch most of it.That's the theory anyway, at least as I understand it.
We also recognize that some uses of a word are not inappropriate depending on how they are used.
For Example: "Jesus tied his ass to a tree and walked for a mile."

Re: Modelling jousts in Hero
This seems like it should have come up long ago' date=' but I can't recall the topic being addressed. What is the best way to run a classic joust in which two knights with lance and shield charge at each other on horseback? Some of the concerns I have with running it as normal Hero combat are: 1. jousts are supposed to be simultaneous charges, but Hero uses alternating movement phases; 2. tournament lances are designed to unhorse opponents without doing much damage, but Hero rules necessitate doing significant damage before the target is knocked down; 3. jousting knights are expected to use their lance and shield together, but Hero doesn't allow simultaneous blocks & attacks; 4. the standard OCV vs. DCV mechanic doesn't evoke the subtle nuance of what jousting is. Any suggestions would be appreciated.[/quote']Regarding Part 1:
1. Because you are riding SPD is dependent on the horse itself to move. If the horses have a different SPD from each other, the player with the better horse would be ruled to have to hold action until a matching Phase. However, that also gives the player in question an extra phase they can use for a Recovery. DEX determines who gets to make their attack first.
2. Tournament Lances should probably be built different than traditional lances. Double Knockback or something like that perhaps. I'd have to look at the lance information and knock down rules more first.
3. Shields can be used as either a bonus to DCV or as extra armor. I don't see why this wouldn't work.
4. As far as this, yes it does in many way miss the true nature of Jousting. Depending on how well you aim, you hit a particular location and score a particular set of points. I'm sure that making a better hit location chart specificly for jousting as well as jousting custom rules would fix that.
Hmmm, sounds like an interesting DH article.

Re: Musings on Random Musings
Seriously' date=' having read this, the thing is that many banks are just plain incompetent. I don't know why. But we've had multiple problems where different banks have ADMITTED it was their fault, it wasn't that we didn't "get" how to do business with them. And even when they admit it's their problem and owe you something, it can take them months to fix it, with multiple calls and letters and even visiting the bank in person involved.[/quote']The bigger the bank the bigger the hassle to resolve.

Re: Musings on Random Musings
Sure, Mr. Bank Lobbyist...now let me find that link as to why cigarettes aren't nearly as bad as they say...My bank isn't evil. It is one of the rare few. I could name countless evil banks. For example: Wachovia and Bank of America.

Re: Greatest Post-Apoc Film of All Time
I rewatched The Last Man on Earth on Thursday. Good stuff.
I need some good Post-Apoc radiation waste type movies. Preferably stuff I can pick up on DVD for cheap.
