  1. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER There is one thing that Crichton and King have in common. Take a book and turn it into a movie and the movie is going to overly suck. I LOVE Jurassic Park. Don't get me wrong, but if you read the book, you can see that Speilberg totally destroyed a phenominal possibility at his fingertips.
  2. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER We (being everyone in my apartment) just read an aweful article written by Crichton. It was about how Environmentalism has turned into a religion. The problem with the article is that he sites at one point that people just don't do any research into things. He further claims that oil is not going to run out and there have been no real harm caused by DDT. He provides no sources or bibliography. Best we can figure, this was his attempt to get people furious to go out and actually research this claim. But even if it was the case.... blah! Bad Crichton!
  3. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Me and Stephen King A post written by Super Squirrel My parents stopped reading Stephen King after Cujo which is quite the story as to why. You see, when I was 2, my aunt had Stephen King over for dinner. My parents were there and as I was 2, I was long as well. Dinner went well and fine and dandy. Then out comes Cujo about 6 months later. Both my parents were shocked. The description of the boy fit me perfectly. And, well, dog eats boy and boy dies. So I'm in a Stephen King book and I'm dead. I love his stuff, The Stand is my favorite. The Dark Tower series is his dream child and I'm greatly looking forward to the end. I don't expect others to like him, but I'm always surprised when people say his work is just the same old thing. That is his style. His books are always fresh and new.
  4. This is an experiment. What we have is an attempt by me to create the longest running, NON game thread. Our record to beat, is the Catsuit thread. Quite a challange. And we are going to have to keep this thing as best we can. Threads and Tangents are welcome. Getting it locked is not desired. Now all we need is a launching point. What does everyone feel about the Red Sox "Curse"? And are you aware that this year Stephen King is going to every game and will be writing a book about the season.
  5. I need maps of fake or real military facilities so that I can plot out a portion of an upcoming game. Anyone know of any good resources online?
  6. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I wonder if lying in a thread designed for lying is a sin?
  7. Re: Answers & Questions Q: How long do you think it will take before he realizes it was the drainage ditch he jumped in to? A: I'm not touching that one for all the money in the world.
  8. Re: Answers & Questions Q. What can one answer this question with that will answer no other question ever to be asked again? A. The time is now... ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
  9. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I suppose I could post absolutely nothing in a random musing, huh?
  10. Re: Answers & Questions Q. So why is it again, you don't think it was sexual assault on a boy Michael Jackson? A. Tuesday.
  11. Re: Answers & Questions Q. What did Klytus just say to himself in the mirror? A. The Letter 9
  12. Re: Answers & Questions Q. How much does the hairball the owl count for over there? A. That is just downright, evil!
  13. Re: Answers & Questions Q. What do you think of this see thru outfit? A. I already told you 176.3!
  14. Re: Answers & Questions Q: Where does our contract stand with the genderless, harmonica playing squirrel? A: A little to the left... no wait the right... no wait... the left.
  15. Re: Using COMliness Add an occasionaly penalty to enemies in battle when trying to make attacks at others when in combat. Or perhaps skills when someone of high COM is nearby. The enemy rushes up to launch an attack at the hero and catches the eye of the 30 COM hero to the side. That distraction for a moment is enough that the attack misses. Some enemies might be less inclined to attack someone who is beautiful. Or others might prefer to make called shots to the head to "scar that beautiful face."
  16. Re: VPP / Talent Magic System Cap is 3 DC on any powers in their magic at start. I have no care if they spend every last point on the VPP and the Talens as long as no Magic Ritual does more than 3 DC at start. I also have the rule that no characteristic or racial ability can be purchased/raised after creation. It is in their best interest to not put too many points into the VPP at creation unless the VPP is all that they are.
  17. I've been trying to design a balanced magic system for my campaign that keeps magic in check from getting out of control, but allows the players to have flexibility to do as they want. Spells are part of a VPP. The VPP is built with either Must Have Access to Spell Formula (-1/4) or Must Have Formula Purchased to Use (-1/4). A Spell Formula is 2 Points for Known or 1 Point for written (in an OAF) The other catch is that spells are a tree learning base. You can't immediately summon lightning bolts or create fireballs. You have to first know the basics. If you opt for the Written format, you can use magic off of a scroll, but you cannot transfer it to your spell book until you have first mastered its basics. For example: To Learn Flame Arrow, you need to first know (or have access to) Magic Missile and Create Fire.
  18. We are going to be experimenting with a role-playing game. We are each creating copies of ourselves as 25+25 characters. We then are given a start of 1 XP to represent any superhero power we want. Each game regardless of challange is worth 5 XP. I'm GMing this and it should prove to be interesting. Anyone ever do something like this before?
  19. A colonization ship was sent from Earth exactly one year ago after the discovery of a habital planet on the otherside of a wormhole. This ship contains two groups of colonizers to prepare the planet for a massive transport ship in two years time. The two colonizer groups consist of 100 people each. The continent that has been selected is determined to have three prime colonization locations and two secondary locations. Each of the groups has a main craft with all basic survival gear and two cargo supplies with advanced gears (communications, transportation, and medical supplies). The primary objective is to establish two base colonies. The secondary objective is to have a fully functional colony that can handle a 5,000 population boom. First complication. The computer system designed to control the planet fall begins the sequence about five minutes too soon. The result is catastrophic. Group A lands 3000 miles from their designated colonization but only 500 miles from a secondary location. The secondary location isn't as good but it can provide all the supplies needed to survive. The cargo supplies land further than that. The one containing medical supplies is somewhere in the mountains, the communication supplies is about 2000 miles south (putting it 5000 miles away from the prime colonization location. Also, the other landing group has landed in an unknown area and contact is nearly impossible. Second complication. Something in the atmosphere causes 8% of the population to experience strange changes... The characters are 50 + 50 base with 50 points of super powers. I have tons of surprises involved. I'm looking forward to getting this game going too.
  20. Other Additions I have 12 total fireworks at this time. I don't have the list with me at work but there were some interesting ones that I added. 1d3 EB NND, 8" Radius (Sulfer Bomb) Change Environment -2 OCV 1" Radius (Noxious Gas) Transmit Unusual Group, 1 Continuing Charge(5 minutes)(Emergency Frequency)
  21. OAF, Visible Mental Illusions could be described like this: OAF - The person has a spiral hypnotist disk. Duh... I wonder what it does. Visible, when using the power, you can see a sort of outline of the type of illusing being cast if you are not the intended victim. OAF, Visible Mind Link OAF - Hat says "Good guys communication device" Visible - A string on a tin can connected from the hat to all other members.
  22. The Hearing Flash I thought of but didn't design because of the 70 pt Lightning EB / Hearing Flash that another party member has.
  23. I have a character who makes his own fireworks. I had to redesign the character and decided the fireworks skill is best represented in a VPP. All fireworks are IAF, Limit (Doesn't work in Water), and RSR(PS: Fireworks) My character has four basic fireworks types right now: Smoke Bomb (Darkness to Sight 1") Firecracker (1pip, Armor Piercing) 1d6 Sight Flash Concussion Bomb (+10 Leaping, no non-combat movement) Right now I have a limit of 10 Active Points in the VPP. I'm looking for any ideas for fireworks that can give my character a variety of things to bring in with him on a job.
  24. I for one, will never run a game less than 25+25 at start. I tell you, you get some unique characters when you limit people to that many points.
