  1. Re: Musings on Random Musings Well, the people living in the metropolitan area in question frequently do.
  2. Re: Musings on Random Musings Good thread that one. Fortunately it and "Random Musings" aren't mutually exclusive.
  3. Re: Musings on Random Musings Appreciated. If I may it might help to explain the situation from at least my point of view, and I believe the point of view of others as well: The "Random Musing" thread is one that a number of us enjoy reading for its intended purpose, and find it jarring to have someone post a reply in the thread. Generally the response is a gentle reminder that replies should be handled in a different thread. A gentle reminder that you have received on a number of occasions. A reminder that doesn't seem to be making any impression. So it isn't particularly surprising that people would make the reminders less gentle. Was Death Tribble over the top? Of course, that is his online persona. He regularly talks about destroying entire metropolitan areas just to get at someone who annoyed him. If you aren't familiar enough with Death Tribble I can see how you might think he was being hostile. And I can certainly understand making mistakes. Everyone does. I've certainly screwed up and posted a reply to the "Random Musings" thread. But can you understand our frustration? You do it fairly regularly. Heck, you have done it at least once while we've been having this discussion. At this point I'm having a hard time seeing it as anything but one of two options. You are doing it on purpose, or it is so unimportant to you that you can't be bothered to notice when you are posting to that thread. Yes, I know that you were responding (and objecting) to the perceived hostility in DT's post rather than the point he was making. My point is that even though I agree that his post was over the top (something he certainly admits to), the reason that it got there is that gentle polite reminders don't seem to be making any difference to you.
  4. Re: Musings on Random Musings A song off of the newest Barenaked Ladies album has several rhymes with orange.
  5. Re: Musings on Random Musings As to that, I'll just say this: People will react to others doing things that they consider to be rude. If you don't like the reactions you get, you might consider looking at what is causing those reactions. As you say, deal or not. Being absent minded is a reason for doing rude things sometimes, but it doesn't necessarily shield you from people responding to the rudeness.
  6. Re: Musings on Random Musings At this point I'm curious: How do you navigate the message board that makes it so you can't tell what thread you are looking at? As to it being something that obscure, it is just an extension to the general rule that is part of any online forum that I've ever been a part of: Keep you comments on topic. Just like any other thread, what can be considered on topic depends on the specifics of the particular thread. The Random Musings thread just has a narrower range of what is considered on topic than usual.
  7. Re: Musings on Random Musings It is just a matter of politeness. The person who started the thread asked that people restrict themselves to random musings and to not reply to posts within that thread. It doesn't seem like it would take that much effort to just be polite.
  8. Re: Musings on Random Musings Not recently unfortunately. I was reminded of the song by input.jack's location. Not a fan of the Sharpe historical fiction, or not a fan of Sean Bean? Personally I like them both, and the books are even better than the movies.
  9. Re: Musings on Random Musings Unlike other methods of brewing a better cuppa I've seen, the product tastes like very good coffee. Rather than tasting like a nice coffee flavored beverage.
  10. Re: Musings on Random Musings When I was regularly going to "A Taste of Colorado" (i.e. when I still lived in Denver) there was a guy who had a booth with a wide variety of different kinds of beef jerky. I always made sure I got some of his habeñero stuff. Can't eat much at a time, but VERY tasty. I need to pick up some fresh ones one of these days and see about doing some cooking with 'em. Though I'd be eating anything I made myself as Keri, while not actually a total spice wimp, doesn't like hot food nearly as much as I do.
  11. Re: Musings on Random Musings Nope, I can have both. Taste buds work just great, and I get to enjoy the peppers that I like.
  12. Re: Musings on Random Musings I am fortunate in that I don't have to make the choice.
  13. Re: Musings on Random Musings Never been a fan of jalapeños either. Well, okay that isn't entirely true. I like them if they've been roasted. Otherwise I just don't like the flavor. Habeñeros on the other hand, those are quite nice.
  14. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Here's fourteen shillings on the drum For those who'll volunteer to come To list and fight the foe today Over the hills and far away [Chorus:] O'er the hills and o'er the main To (through) Flanders, Portugal and Spain King George commands and we obey Over the hills and far away Through smoke and fire and shot and shell Unto the very walls of hell We shall stand and we shall stay Over the hills and far away [chorus] Now though I travel far from Spain A part of me shall still remain For you are with me night and day *And* over the hills and far away [chorus] So fall in lads behind the drum With Colours blazing like the sun Along the road to come-what-may Over the hills and far away [chorus] When evil stalks upon the land I'll nyther hold nor stay me' hand But fight to win a better day Over the hills and far away [chorus] If I should fall to rise no more As many comrades did before Ask the pipes and drums to play Over the hills and far away [chorus] Let Kings and tyrants come and go I'll stand ajudged by what I know A soldier's life I'll ne'er gainsay Over the hills and far away [chorus]
  15. Re: Musings on Random Musings Speaking of coffee, you ever seen/tried using an Aeropress? I picked one up recently and it makes some seriously good coffee. We have like 5 other ways of making coffee at home, and since I got the Aeropress I've barely used any of them. Invented by the guy who came up with the Aerobie flying disk.
  16. Re: The cranky thread One of my brothers used to somewhat regularly go up into the mountains (from Denver) with old computer equipment and some firearms and have some enthusiastic target practice. Very cathartic.
  17. Re: Musings on Random Musings Not a fan of horseradish, though I do like wasabi. Mustard is good on roast beef. Au jus is even better.
  18. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Well obviously in {whatever time zone the reader is in}, duh.
  19. Re: Musings on Random Musings Many years ago I worked for a delivery/fast food type place. One of our regulars would order a roast beef sammich, and then head over to the condiment bar and proceed to put a 1/4" thick layer of mayo on both sides of the bun. Occasionally he would also order for delivery and ask us to make it that way for him.
