  1. Re: Hero System Books Have Way to many Typos Except that it doesn't. Well, depending on what you call "similar". 20PD/20ED with Resistant (+1/2), Hardened (+1/4) costs 70. 20PD/20ED Resistant Protection with Hardened(+1/4) costs 75. To me at least that is a significant difference. The Resistant Advantage exists to allow you to add resistance to your innate PD and ED, as well as adding it to other types of protection that do not innately have resistance and which aren't covered by Resistant Protection.
  2. Re: Hero System Books Have Way to many Typos Yup. I've got a lifetime sub to CO. If only I had more time to actually PLAY it...
  3. Re: Hero System Books Have Way to many Typos They do have a PDF for sale with over 100 silhouettes (split between male and female) that can be printed and used for character art. It is $9.95, but can then be used for as many characters as you want. But since Dan pulled the die roller out of HD, citing as I recall the fact that it wasn't part of the core functionality of the application, I'm pretty sure he won't be coding and adding in an art program.
  4. Based on the response to the defense cost question I asked, Resistant works differently than other Advantages. Effectively you have to purchase Resistant first and then apply any other advantages to the resulting cost. To the best of my knowledge this is the only Advantage that works like this. Which brings me to my question: Are there any other Advantages that have to be purchased before applying other Advantages like Resistant? And just 'cause two part questions are fun, is there a reference in the 6e rules somewhere noting that this is how Resistant is supposed to be purchased?
  5. Re: Hero System Books Have Way to many Typos Not just in HD, it simplifies it even if you're writing it up by hand...
  6. The reason that I asked the previous question is that a topic of discussion came up in another thread specifically dealing with the purchase of Resistant with other advantages. What was put forth there (using examples from currently published 6e material) was that to have 20PD/20ED defenses that were all Resistant and Hardened it would have to be purchased: 18 18 PD 18 18 ED 10 Hardened (+1/4) on 20PD/20ED 25 Resistant (+1/2) on 20PD/20ED (Hardened (+1/4) Which would have the advantage that it would cost the same as buying Resistant Protection and adding Hardened. But would have the disadvantage that Resistant would be purchased differently than other Advantages. Which is correct? (ack, you edited your reply while I was writing this one)
  7. Re: Hero System Books Have Way to many Typos Yup. Sorry to have doubted you, it just hadn't occurred to me that this Advantage is handled differently than every other Advantage in the game.
  8. Re: Hero System Books Have Way to many Typos Hmm. This convoluted way of doing things has the "advantage" of making buying PD and ED with both the Resistant and Hardened Advantage cost the same as buying Resistant Protection and then applying Hardened to it. It seems strange to me that this highly unusual way of applying an Advantage isn't mentioned anywhere in the rules that I'm aware of. Don't like it. Though as it applies to HD, I'll note that the workaround isn't a matter of HD not doing things correctly. It is a matter that the rules themselves require a workaround.\ EDIT: Upon further reflection, I'll have to say that it appears as though Resistance should have been kept as a separate power, rather than being turned into an Advantage. Because it appears as though you are still required to buy it as a separate power (as a Naked Advantage), unless it is the only Advantage you are buying on your defenses.
  9. I want to make sure I understand something correctly. I want to have a character with a total of 20PD and 20ED. I want all of these defenses to be both resistant and hardened. By my calculations that should cost a total of 64 points. 31 for 18 points of PD with both Hardened and Resistant, 31 for 18 points of ED with Hardened and Resistant, and then 1 each for adding Hardened and Resistant to the base 2PD and 2ED. Is that correct?
  10. Re: Hero System Books Have Way to many Typos Except as I already noted in a different post a few back that workaround isn't actually needed. Buy the extra PD and ED, buy the advantages you want, check the box to add those advantages to the base characteristic, done. As to adding an art program to HD, I doubt that'll ever happen. Two vastly different types of applications. Out of curiosity, how to you currently do the artwork for your characters? Do you draw them yourself? If not, you're already using different applications to each of them. So while HD dosn't take care of creating the artwork for you, I'm guessing your current solution isn't either so you aren't really losing anything.
  11. Re: Hero System Books Have Way to many Typos Okay, I'll bite. What is it missing?
  12. Re: Hero System Books Have Way to many Typos Actually the easiest way to do it in HD is to just buy the extra PD and ED you want as powers, check the "Add modifiers to base characteristics" box and then add both resistant and hardened to them. Pretty straightforward.
  13. Re: Musings on Random Musings I'm not sure how it could get much milder than is normal for the Bay Area.
  14. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore Well, not really boiled so much as briefly heated.
  15. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore Thanks! I actually knew that, but I hesitate to recommend a restaurant I haven't been to and I've only been to the one in San Fran. Chains are a little different, but even with those (at least at the high end) I'll generally mention where. I.e. I know the Morton's in Denver and San Fran are good because I've been to them.
  16. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore Not exactly sure how it is made, it might just be garlic oil as I didn't see any chunks of garlic in what I tried. There is enough garlic that it is hot.
  17. Re: Extra-Dimensional Gateways Further clarification of intent from the FAQ: That is from the 5th edition FAQ, but I'm pretty sure that Steve hasn't changed his stance on the issue. So basically the UoO advantage limits the maximum number of people that can be granted the Power, and Area Effect determines who can be targeted for having the power granted to them. Not trying to tell you how you have to run it, I just wanted to point out the intent of the rules.
