  1. Thanks for reminding me, Major Tom. I love the B5 series, but I haven't been able to watch the reruns in so long, my memory of the details has faded.
  2. Lord Ghee, I very much appreciate your offer. I was actually reminiscing about the different games (mostly AD&D) I played in. The other playerrs seemed to have so much money, more than they could carry. I don't know how they did it; their cash seemed to appear whenever they needed it. Of course, they tried not to pay whenever they could.
  3. Not to derail my own thread, but your comment reminded me about a conversation at work. a coworker misheard "the animals they make coats from" with "the animals they make Coke from." He jokingly suggested squeezing the animal the way your character squeezed the elf. I replied, "But which bodily fluids are you drinking?" I had to get that out of my system. I feel much better now.
  4. The problem with Vorlon ships is that there's so little information about them it's hard to define their abilities. They were mostly used as plot devices or (once) a deus ex machina. "The ship...it sang to me!" That seems to be the only time a Vorlon let anyone else inside their ships. Aside from that, a ship will grieve when its owner dies and will eventually commit suicide by plunging itself into a star or something. Shadow vessels: I only know the Shadow vessels were susceptible to telepathic jamming. I know the Shadows mechanized their prisoners somewhat, but I can't recall if they used them inside their ships. Tin Man was obviously telepathic and desired a companion. That's about it. Lexx was such an awful show, I'd only watch it if I had nothing better to do, or I needed something to put me to sleep.
  5. So far so good on your conversin chart. What I'd really like to see is the description of each country. I know a bit about The Empire and Bretonnia; I know next to nothing about Kislev, Estaalia, and Tilea. Some people have written stuff about Norsca, Albion, Cathay, Nippon, and Araby. Maybe those sites can help you with your project.
  6. The only living ship I remember way Moya on the Farscape series. It had lots of passages. I don't know if the doors were added in or not. But it had a symbiotic relationship with its pilot. I stopped watching the series after it got too weird for me, so I don't remember too many details, if any. Maybe someone better versed in this series can fill you in.
  7. Do a search on Warhammer 40K here. I think it was on the Star Hero boards, but I'm not entirely sure. It may have been posted on this board.
  8. I wish I had your players.
  9. Thanks for the kind words, Foxx! I hope your players like the idea too.
  10. You could put stuff like House Davion under KS: Noble Houses/Clans/Factions (or whatever the proper term is). Famous Mech Warriors and Militias and Mercs could fall under KS: Military Lore. Terrorists would be a different KS unless they're particularly militant and/or effective at hindering military operations. Military procedures and military law are different skills. As for rank, I started a thread about that on this board. It was argued that a sergeant with experience would cost more than a newly-commissioned lieutenant fresh from the academy. That's because the sergeant knows more about the way things work. However, if the lieutenant rose from the ranks, that would not necessarily be the case.
  11. It looks like you can bunch some of these together. You can put some in politics and history and spend a point on each of them for a roll of 8-. Stuff like star systems, battle technology, and military procedure would be more important, so give the pilot a roll of 11-. Finally, give your pilot the Tactics skill.
  12. I was thinking about magic and technology developing side by side. In this case, they are actually used in conjunction with each other, rather against each other.
  13. My take on it was that rather than having a fantasy world rise from the ashes of a technological one, science and magic developed simultaneously. It's just that certain things like swords and chivalry never went out of fashion. And I'll admit it, of course I ripped off all those knights with light sabers from Lucas. I like Shannarra and Kulthea; they're just different from my vision.
  14. You realize what you've done, don't you? You've given me another idea to torture my players. Now they're going to create gunslingers and find out guns are useless in the campaign. Just kidding! I'm not that sadistic. Well, not normally.
  15. What do those numbers mean? And are you looking for a write-up of both the pilot and the mecha, or just the pilot?
  16. All good ideas. I never actually came up with a reason why the world worked that way. I didn't think much about the why's is a fantasy campaign 15 years ago; it was just the way the world worked. Now that I'm older and (hopefully) wiser, I look for more logical explanations for things. So I use science even when building fantasy worlds. Thanks for the suggestions. Definitely I would use those ideas if I ever develop this campaign.
  17. Actually I find the two books coplement each other well. While you don't need Ninja Hero as an absolute guide, it has several useful guides and suggestions. I like the way some martial arts styles are bought as MP or EC. I've seen it before, but I don't use them often enough to be comfortable with them. So I find those useful guides. Also keep in mind UMA is a great resource to have, but in my experience, if you're starting in the HERO system, limit the available styles to the ones listed in FREd until everyone is comfortable with the system. But if you can get both books, cool.
  18. Good point. No pun intended (well actually, yeah, it was).
  19. An idea I've entertained for a long time (or rather, it entertained me) is mixing element of fantasy and science fiction, as well as some other stuff. Granted, I've been in a low-magic kind of mindset lately, but here's my idea of a more fantastic campaign. High technology would allow castles to defy gravity and float in the sky. Maybe the same technology (or magic if you prefer; it's still fantasy) will have sailing ships that fly in the sky to reach those castles. Knights will wield light sabers (maybe even light lances) and ride robotic horses. Since it's still fantasy, fantastic elements will still be around. There would be dragons, elves, and orcs. Martial artists can fly around wuxia style and shoot energy blasts at their enemies, a la Streetfighter 2 or DBZ. The main problem would be weapons. Since light sabers exist, other melee weapons using energy should exist. Maybe maces can produce sonic blasts. Axe blades may vibrate. As for ranged weapons, how about crossbows like the one Chewbacca used? And the bows like Hank the ranger in the D&D cartoon used would work too. Armor would probably be best handled as force fields. Maybe damage reduction would work too. Suggestions?
  20. I'm looking forward to it too. I'm a recent convert to the Old World, but I've used a modified version for my campaign (currently in limbo).
  21. Thanks. Of course, if I include the Highlander rules I wrote up, I'd have to remove the -2 penalty for swords, or give the immies penalty skill levels.
  22. Re: Re: Re: Sid & Marty Kroft Hero A martial artist flute practices... Kung Flute??! It flies through the air like a boomarang, whacking the bad guys. A vampiric flute is more feasible. It drains the life energy of whomever plays it, while making them obsessed with playing it.
  23. Of course, you don't need to make the Eaters of the Dead any more than a tribe of raiders with a cannibalistic lifestyle.

    War Hero

I haven't tried GURPS Black Ops, but it may give you ideas. Also, Palladium is revising the RECON game to include today's military hardware.
  25. Interesting idea, Outsider. Mind if I borrow it?
