  1. Re: Infinite Crisis Ok... I'll bite. How?
  2. Re: Is Power Girl/Kara Starr the DCUs Gladiator? Oh come on... continuity is more fiction than the comic characters themselves. I'd just be happy if they could change a creative team on a book without instantly ignoring everything that happened in the previous arc.
  3. Re: Is Power Girl/Kara Starr the DCUs Gladiator? Actually events that have led up to the lauch of Infinite Crisis are hinting more and more that the mini series is going to undo much of what the original Crisis did. At the very least its going to cause more characters in the DCU to remember the truth of what happened. Spoilers ---- In the final issue of the Return of Donna Troy. Donna has become the lastest incarnation of Harbinger and now remembers ALL of her lives in each of the Earth - (number and alphabet soup).
  4. Re: So...About Seeker... I hear that! But that doesnt mean we cant enjoy a few days of not burning our hands on the steering wheel. Seeker was a silly concept, but overall there was nothing in the character that couldnt let you play him as not only viable but a serious character with a sense of humor. Besides... he might have been the only character in the Champions Universe that could have a chance of keeping up and matching wits with the "Great-And-Mighty-All-Powerful! Foxbat!!!! TM.
  5. Has anyone else had problems in campaigns with small amounts of hardened defenses comepletly negating the Penetrating advantage. With the invention of Combat Luck the advantage has been come virtually a waste of points. What I am curious about is if anyone has changed how either Penetrating or Hardened works to try and compensate for this. My co-GM and I have been playing around with ways to try and keep PEN viable but not ignoring the points spend by characters for defence either. Here is what we have come up with so far. Since Armor Piercing is not all or nothing against HARD we are using it as our model. Defenses with HARD going up against AP attack will negated the AP only one the HARDENED def. So a 10 PD HARD Armor and 10 PD non-resist character (20PD total) against an AP attack would keep the 10 PD resistant Armor but be reduced to 5 PD def on the non hardened defense (15 PD total). With our change to PENETRATING you would still apply the damage from a standard penetrating attack but instead of having a 3 PD Combat Luck completely negate the advantage you would instead only take off a percentge of the damage. EXAMPLE: Character A has 10 PD nomral and 10 PD HARDENED as before. Thus the character would only take 50% of the PENETRATING damage that was applied. A character with 10 PD and 5 PD resistant would stop 33% of the incoming PENETRATING damage. I hope I am explaining this well enough for others to judge. Please give me some feedback and/or questions for me to better clairify if needed. Thanks
  6. Re: Hand Attacks Question Thanks for the help on my question! And anyone else with a HA question feel free to use this thread as well.
  7. Ok, I have a few questions about Hand Attacks... I've only been playing Hero for about 10 years now but for some reason Im reading the rules today and just not being able to add 2+2... (hangs head in shame). Ok.. How do you work HTH attacks in with other powers. If you have a speedster character for example, he has a 20 STR so thats 4d6 damage. Lets say I give him the Speedster martial arts from UMA so using a strike from it he will add +2d6 (6d6 damage now). Finally we go to a Speed Tricks Multipower... along with various other abilities in the pool we give him MULTI-HIT and +4d6 HA that simulated a super-speed flurry of punchs. Can you add the MULTI-HIT power in with the martial arts for a total of 10d6? Secondly. There is a martial artist character that has several levels in his martial art attacks. This is allowing him to do 8-10d6 depending on his manuvers. Now the character has a fighting stick that is +3d6 HA. I know that he can use the stick with his martial arts as it is a weapon. Now the character is also studying some mystic abilites that allow him to generate Ki fields around his body for effects. One of them is a +4d6 HA AP. Can the marital artist use this ability with his martial arts? Mechanically it is the same as his weapon but it would lead to having up to a 14d6 AP attack. Also could he use the weapon and the Ki power at the same time? Or would the 2 HA cancel out? I realize this is probably explained at length somewhere but I looked through the FAQ and Im not seeing it there... I appreciate the help.

  9. Re: Everyman - What Do *You* Want To See? In many ways, I would have to agree with Hawksmoor. As much as I enjoyed Normals Unbound when it came out I feel that those types of characters can just as easily be handled in Digital Hero or as an extra few characters in each suppliment. (i.e. Mystic World - have one or two mystic themed NPC characters for use by characters.) The early books like Champions Universe and Millinium City handled this very well. Doing a normals book seems more of an excuse almost to just not have to develop anymore of the locations with characters in future books.
  10. Re: What is your ideal sized hero group The game that Im currently co-GMing has about 6 players in it. Although of that only 3 are the "core" group that can make it every time the other 3 join in when their schedules allow. Having more players in a group allows for a bit more of a buffer when someone is not able to play. It seems like over all though most people here seem to be in the 4 or 5 player range though. What is the LARGEST group you have played/GMed?
  11. Re: What character concepts make you cringe? I would say that its not really so much when someone copies an existing character. (Ok I admit that I've done things like this before, although usually its when I need an NPC in less than 5 minutes and I dont have anything better to use on hand.) But the concepts that make me cringe the most are when a player wants to do something that is (sadly) outside of either the HERO rules or the campaign guidelines. For example someone trying to make a Rogue (from X-Men) style character on 350 pts.
  12. Arise Cardboard Heroes!! Actually that would be a good idea. They could easily do a VIPER/UNTIL pack for it using the characters and equipment from the newest expansions. We could finally get some of the mecha-viper robots or power armored suits figures. I wonder if vehicles would work in the CH line as well? Maybe if they could release them in sets to go along with the books published DOJ would consider the idea?
  13. Well for minis there are currently Superfigs and Silver Age Sentinels lines in production and I think I remember there being at least one other. Digital Hero featured a 2 part article dealing with where to find miniatures for Champions as well as how to modify ones that are close to fit your character more closely. Personally while I like the metal minis and have an insane amount of them laying around for fantasy games that I need to paint, I would rather see DOJ get the licencing rights or create some new versions of the old superhero Cardboard Heros line. I think that Steve Jackson Games was the publisher for the old versions and has since discontinued them a packet of them was included with the 4th edition Champions GM Screen. The figures were great and I still use them in my games now. Plus the price cant be beat on it. Metal minis are $4 or more each now and you could probably get the whole pack of 50 (or so) of Cardboard Heros for $15-20. It would even work as a digital file to purchase and just print out on cardstock. Well thats just my two cents worth on it. I think they have a free download already that is close to what im talking about using some of Storn Cook's artwork.
  14. Very true. If you went with the style of hack//SIGN you could get away with not even needing a real world character sheet. However hack//Liminality (which is 4 eps included with the video game) shows stories that can be done in the Project Hack universe that either dont take place inside "The World" at all or only reference it slightly. This stories are dealing more with the effects that the program seems to be having on the computers that control the cities and other functions in real life. Either one could be interesting to run games in and one could easily have a team of investigational "troubleshooters" that handle investigations both inside and outside the game. Such a game might have to ignore some of the events that take place in the games and tv shows though so that the PCs are able to have a greater effect on the story at large.
  15. Project Hack(ing) Not to go against everyone thats trying to come up with hard rules to govern the difference between the "real" characters and their on-line counterparts, but wouldnt this be a good example of letting the GM control their own game. As fans of the series my group and I have actually given some thought to how to translate series into HERO. However after looking at the rules and some of the ways to handling things according to FREd we decided that the best thing to do is just make 2 seperate characters for each players. One (design in the normal to skilled normal) ranges for when in offline and then the second (in the heroic ranges) to handle adventuring in "The World." I admit that its taking liberties but it saves costs and math hassles for something that overall is nothing more than a plot device. Just my thought on it.... Greypaladin_01
