  1. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? The Longships- Enya from Watermark (( Got all my "Celtic" music on shuffle. Would have to look at the CD case to verify numbers and it is packed away. So I'll take your word on it. ))
  2. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Dulaman- Altan from Celtic Legacy: A Global Celtic Journey
  3. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Dollhouse was ok up to the end of the series. It was really more episodic with a behind the scenes metaplot. Most of the episodes were good. Some were outright bad. I enjoyed it in an overall sense. The very last episode (maybe two - not remembering) was total crap. The production team tried to cram an entire season in an episode or two. It failed. Failed bad.
  4. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? GI Joe Was this movie written by a gamer? It had all the classic elements. Intertwined relationships between the good guys and bad guys. Mind control. Doppelganger assuming the role of US President (come on, do I really have to spoiler that). All that sort of stuff. Action was pretty good to fantastic. Some of the acting was a little stilted. No attempt was made to mask the CGI looking like CGI. Too many bumbling comedy attempts in the super suits. And was the Snake Eyes vs. Storm Shadow fight intentionally meant to look like a Jedi versus Sith battle? I mean, here they are fighting on some weird technomagic gizmo. Give them both lightsabers and a John Williams score and it could have passed for a classic Force users battle. I had fun watching it. Wall-E Tried to watch it. Hated it. Too much exaggerated commentary about how inherently wasteful and lazy humanity is. I get enough of that in real life, I don't need a cartoon to pound home the point. Doomsday Far too much gratuitous gore and the fact that it follows typical survival horror tropes of everything going wrong make this movie a must miss. The level of bad in this movie is almost comical, with evil cannibals magically appearing in a massive horde without any evidence of them before they started pouring through the doors in waves of 6-10. And there were a lot of waves. I can say two things good about this movie. There were bewbs early on and the main character demonstrated a pretty cool gamer tactic during the first cannibal assault. Okay, the main character was kind of hot. So three positive things. As to the rest, I gave up at about the half hour mark. I want it back. With interest.
  5. Re: The Hero System is bland and over complicated Lucius, you really know your McDonald's history. Somehow that frightens me.
  6. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Yes. I'm pretty sure I confirmed that, but sometimes the voices in my head lead me astray. A job is merely an offer until accepted. In other words, discuss all you want. I will, in true Nolgroth form, adapt and destr....overcome. EDIT: Sorry if my responses seem flippant. Well they are flippant. Did you have something in mind. I am always open to ideas above and beyond what my mind cooks up. I was not kidding about being adaptable. Let me look up the thread for details on exactly what we wanted to do in game terms.
  7. Re: Damage Class, weapons and abilities Personally, I use damage caps as the maximum amount of DC that can be bought as part of the power/weapon. Martial & Combat Maneuvers, DC from Combat Skill Levels, etc. all add to that damage. It's worked for me through two separate campaigns.
  8. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Yeah, well I'm joking. See what tangential joking (calling my a cyborg) does to my train of thought. Totally derailed. I mean totally. So where was I again?
  9. Re: straw poll: Does a Shadow Demon have a "living body" Don't have the Bestiary yet so I would not be able to answer with authority. First inclination is No.
  10. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Too late. Special Guest Star: Elvis the AI Robot in full on Mechanon mode. In this episode, Hardesty dies.
  11. Re: The Hero System is bland and over complicated Really, I couldn't find anything with Youtube search engine. At least not quickly.
  12. Re: The Hero System is bland and over complicated True, but are any of them out there on Youtube?
  13. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate What do you mean "cyborg" meatbag?
  14. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Blog updated with last session we played. And I had a great time at the Armstrong Redwoods state park. It was pretty lovely all in all and did wonders to recharge my batteries.
  15. Re: Real Costs for spells and how you handle them? I was just pointing out the difference between /3 and Multipower. Wasn't espousing any particular preference. All things being equal and I wanted to use a Power Framework, I would probably use a 6E VPP for spells. Keep the Control cost about where I want it to limit AP and allow the Pool Cost to grow as necessary to accommodate the ability to cast more spells at once over the course of the game. A Multipower would be a perfectly acceptable alternative to this.
  16. Re: Circle of Protection Damage Negation? Desolidification with the Limitations Immobile Focus and Only to Protect Versus Critter X? Barrier with really high defenses?
  17. Re: Forge of Souls Teaser: NPC Dossiers Looking good so far. Are you going to post character work ups for them?
  18. Re: Real Costs for spells and how you handle them? It works out fairly well. Like NuSoardGraphite's solution, except for the distinct lack of a "pool" to base max AP costs on. For myself, I used the Turakian Age magic system in a side adventure. I didn't see any overt abuse or weakness in it. I may use it in an upcoming project I am planning. Not going to talk about that much, as I tend to have a lot more projects on the "Unfinished" stack than I do the "Completed" stack.
  19. Re: Campaign Building Blocks: General Musings While I am sure I am not the only person to ever use PRE minimum, I do not think there is a specific example of where I got it. I simply equate PRE to STR in utility. They share the same mechanic for doing "damage" (Normal attack, Presence attack) after all. Makes sense that PRE would be useful for determining hard line requirements for spells in the same way that STR does for weapons. I have taken it a bit further, so that PRE adds to all spells. In Geoffrey's case (character, now retired in my current campaign) I have not seen any overt abuse. Spells that do damage are still limited to the campaign maximum for DC (before PRE adds). In retrospect, maybe making PRE Adds to Effect an Advantage between +1/4 and +1/2 might be appropriate, as I have it affect all spells. On the other hand, PRE for the purpose of spell casting, costs END. Maybe a +1/4 Advantage applied to the individual spell might be good on the balance.
  20. Re: The Hero System is bland and over complicated While I have no doubt that the two products are well written and a good example of what folks are talking about, to me the two genres for the books are kind of niche. No offense Darren, but I seriously doubt I will ever have the need or desire for Lucha Libre HERO. Just not my style. I know so little about PS238 that I wouldn't know if it was a worthwhile setting to explore. What HERO honestly needs is something more mainstream. A fantasy or sci-fi setting would be ideal. Even Dark Champions or Pulp would do the trick and require less setting explanation.
