  1. Re: FANTASY HERO Sneak Peek #1: The Cover! Cover is awesome. So awesome that I may have to diverge from my PDF only policy and pick up the dead tree version.
  2. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate No specifics as of yet. Sorry I missed you when you logged on earlier. Catching my 18.7 winks (40 winks being a luxury ).
  3. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Just a quick note, the Server name is now Nolgroth's Server. I figure with the eventual inclusion of the space opera campaign, it would be easier to stick with a non-specific name.
  4. Re: Do you buy Resistant alternate defenses? I generally don't see a need for resistant alternate defenses. Even buying Does Body on a EGO attack just effectively turns it into a Blast (Normal damage) and the plain defense should be enough. It would only be in the case of some really exotic attack like Killing Attack bought with the AVAD Resistant Mental/Flash/Power Defense and Does Body where this would be necessary. As mentioned by Indiana Joe, this is straight up power gaming (IMO).
  5. Re: Yet more asteroids Something hit my gamer bone in that article. For some reason, I just get this image of the WISE program finding something else, like a derelict spacecraft, Mass Effect relay, or other potential technological treasure trove. Of course this wouldn't be on the "processed" results.
  6. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? The End Run - Jack Wall composer (Mass Effect 2 Soundtrack)
  7. Re: Conan: The Current Movie in Progress..... You kidding? That is the picture that finally sold me on this movie.
  8. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? This was one of those pleasant surprise movies for me. I was really expecting it to suck, but I had a fun time watching it. I really bought the transition from bumbling nerd to master of kung-fu. I often ask myself why I go into a movie expecting it to suck, but this movie and Sorcerer's Apprentice both demonstrate that my preconceptions may well be wrong about a movie. I came out of both movies glad that I took the chance.
  9. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? M4 Part II - The Faunts (from the album M4 or ending credits from Mass Effect).
  10. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate General Update 07/16/10: Things are starting to settle down on the work front. I still haven't had time to delve deeply into campaign/game prep but I have read the "blue book" stories submitted to me. Good stuff that I might be able to use to build upon later. I do not see any issue with starting the game up again on the 22nd. Sorry about the dry spell, but as always, these things suck while they happen but give the necessary break to rebuild some of the creative juices. I wish to repeat my request for notification of any planned/known absences from the game. That way I can plan for the absence and include it into the game. I realize there are always unplanned things that crop up. Since nobody can predict those, I don't sweat when those happen. See y'all Thursday.
  11. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate And while I am thinking about it, are there going to be any more planned absences in the next couple of months? I know GenCon is coming up. Is that going to require an absence from anybody here. I would like to try to head things off at the pass rather than "writing" myself into a corner again. Thanks for the understanding. I could very well run this Thursday. It occurs to me that Hardesty could remain a "silent" team member and split the combat/mechanical chores amongst the others. Or he could be eaten by a Thresher Maw.
  12. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate General Update: It has been an interesting two weeks. When I say interesting, I mean that in the "there's a shark chewing my arm off while zombies eat my brain" way. First of all, the Independence Day weekend was murder. Posting a general update to the MapTool Campaign File was the last fun thing I've done. In the meantime and in-between time, work went crazy with stress and added hours. One of my fellows went down with a knee injury that required surgery so we started training a fill-in candidate in case somebody else got injured or a supervisor slot otherwise opened. Just as he is about 75% ready, we had another supervisor go down with a heart attack. Long story short, I have been busy. These changes don't directly affect the game schedule in that I still have Thursday's off. The quality of the game is probably going to suffer in the short-term. So I ask of you this boon; would any of you have any hard feelings if I held off getting back to the game until Starwolf returns from vacation? It would give me time to get work stuff back to a manageable level and then I would have much more time to devote to the game. I am somewhat prepared to run (meaning that I have stats, maps, etc) ready. I am still a little fuzzy on how to write Rotman in and Hardesty out for one session, but I could probably manage if needed.
  13. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate P.S. I loaded up my server so if you want to play you can.
  14. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Sorry folks. Fell asleep right after I posted the last message. Not feeling well even now so I doubt that I could have been an entertaining GM tonight. I will see you all next week. Stupid migraines.

  16. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate What g-a said. In the near future, PSL's will be coded in. In the meantime, you are going to have to "eyeball" the distance and put in the RSL as appropriate.
  17. Re: Hidden Blade Ahhh. Page 99. Well it is in the Toolkitting section so that makes it optional. I think, as GM, I would establish some sort of damage cap. In my own game, this hasn't come up but that is going to be a topic of conversation this evening. Just looking at my example above makes the thought of unrestricted damage adding unattractive. I have always disliked the Double max. I am thinking of Triple Max. Another thing that entered my mind is that Move Through is probably the better maneuver. It simulates the whole jump thing well enough and it also simulates the jumping from a building thing too. The more velocity, the higher the damage but the harder to hit. So to edit my original idea... For the Leaping Kill attack: Acting roll to position himself into prime position for Surprise Move. Use the guidelines for Sleight of Hand in my first post. PRE attack ((at +3d6 for Violent action) to see if the target hesitates) followed by Use the Move Through maneuver. At base it provides a -1 OCV, -3 DCV, and +1 DC. This assumes a Leaping score of 6>. I would add Falling velocity to Leaping velocity so even a short fall of 10M would make the total velocity somewhere between 14-20 (+1-3 DC) depending on how much Leaping the character has. Remember though that it will increase the OCV penalty by 1. Remember to calculate damage to attacker based on Knockdown or Knockback (half or full). For location, I would define head strike as an attack against Special Location: Head Shot at -4 OCV. Damage would be 2 + (STR - STR Min)/5 (round down)+vel/6 (round down)+ (from the Maneuver). You can assume that STR adds +1 DC and Velocity adds +1. So figure somewhere around 4 DC with the option of it being higher in some circumstances. That makes your attack a 1d6+1 Killing. Figure 4 Body average and 7 Max. Remember to subtract the Resistant Defense before multiplying for the Hit Location. Combat Luck should apply unless the PRE Attack achieves PRE+20. The above notes generally apply. This method does reduce damage overall from the previous method. Still with a lucky roll and no Resistant PD, the attacker could achieve up to 14 Body with a single attack. That's a little more reasonable than 38 and still likely to reduce a mook to 0 or less Body and probably Stun him. In fact, I would just call a successful hit with this attack an automatic mook killer.
  18. Re: Behold Leviathan: the sperm whale that killed other whales Just another reason for me not to have any desire whatsoever to go into the deep ocean. What if one of those things is still out there!?!
  19. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Reminder than I've upgraded to version 1.3b70.
  20. Re: The Hero System is bland and over complicated I think you just described my GM style.
  21. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate
  22. A neat little 17th century piracy/maritime site. Nothing huge or complex, but I like it. Thought you might too. http://www.pieceofeight.com/nocturnal.htm
