  2. Re: what is appropriate for "spell" or "weapon-based" powers Ultimately, as the GM, you have final say so on the Limitation value. Also keep in mind that from all of the suggestions you get, only the one that best fits your game and play style is the "right" one. That all being said..... For weapon based powers, the OIF: Weapon of Opportunity basically represents that any ol' weapon sitting around is a viable candidate. So if the power requires a sword, how often are they just sitting around to be picked up by the passing character? That should be part of the decision making process. I would personally go with OAF, but that is just me. The same goes for magic. If the magic comes from the wizard and all he needs is a wand or staff to focus the magic, then OAF is appropriate. It just means that if deprived of that element, he cannot cast the spell. Personally I would build a base spell (say Fireblast at xd6 Blast (or RKA)) and then have the Focus improve the ability. Sort of like the Weaponmaster thing. That digresses from the purpose of this conversation so there you are. To the question of the double damage attack, I would go with +xd6(k/n), Only up to twice the base DC of the attack (-1/2). For example, +2d6K, Only up to 2x base DC (-1/2), OAF: Weapon (-1). Active Cost: 30 Real Cost: 12. You can season with additional Limitations to make it cheaper. For instance, if you wanted it to have a 1 turn cooldown, you could add Delayed Use: 1 Turn (-1/2) drops the real cost to 10. Requires a Power Roll (-1/2) and you are down to 9 pts. Looks like you got another -1/2 in Limitations already so it finalized around 7 Real Cost. Just my personal take on the matter.
  3. Re: Obscure Build Simon disable HTML on the boards to decrease security risks Kraven. Best way is to use the hero boards export format and enclose the character in " " elements. It is monospaced, but is the best option so far.
  4. Re: Obscure Build I would simply build him with a suitable set of warrior skills and buy up his physical characteristics and possibly some resistant defenses to represent his cybernetic augmentations. No power framework needed. Oh I see he is a scientist. Add a couple of science skills to the mix. I would build weapons for each limb, even if the weapon was a concealed pistol (robocop) or similar device. Tell me how many points you have to spend. I am going to assume that since Unified Power replaced Elemental Control, that method is off limits as well? Oh and welcome to the boards. You will find that your relative longevity on the boards is secondary to your contributions. We like newcomers here. Well some of us do. That Old Man can be a little curmudgeonly at times. And watch out for Teh Bunneh. Nice guy until he lops of your head and steals your quickening.
  5. Re: "Raise Dead" / "Resurrection": for those of you that DO, how do you handle... Interesting thoughts Lezentauw. I can see how some forms of Undead could be created that way. For myself, I sort of take the whole Greco-Roman myth thing into account. If you want to resurrect somebody, you travel into the Realm of the Dead, find them and then make a bargain with the God of Death to allow the spirit to return back to his body. Assuming, of course, that the spirit even wants to go back. And that whole process is never as simple as it sounds.
  6. Re: 6E books question... bit confused on what to buy... It does not contain any material from the main books. Of note, Fantasy HERO does contain at least one element (Delayed Use) from the APG. Not all of the information is new. Some of it existed in various supplements in 5th Edition (Resource Pools for instance) but none of that was carried directly over to the core rulebooks. The Basic Rulebook is just a HERO-lite book and while containing all the information a person needs to introduce themselves to the HERO System, it is a far cry less than the contents of the actual 6E1/6E2 books. In a way, I actually think the Basic Rulebook is nifty because it presents fewer options for many things. For the purpose of learning the mechanics of the system, I think it would be more easily digested than the two volume encyclopedia set. On the other hand, some of the things it is missing are important elements of the HERO System. I can fake it because I have HERO Designer and a whole slew of 5th Edition books. I honestly recommend both books for the HEROphile. One to quickly learn the system and one for a sort of advanced HERO theory textbook.

  11. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Book of Eli Not the movie I thought it was going to be. I was picturing something like The Postman or something equally bleak and tedious to watch. After the first ten minutes, I was hooked. Lots of action and a great twist sequence at the end. One of the few movies that can honestly claim a "gotcha" moment on me. Never seen it coming.* Footnote under spoiler:
  12. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate NOTICE I have to work Thursday. I was just advised that I have to work for somebody who is going to a funeral on Thursday. Sorry about the inconvenience and yet another missed session. If you all want, I can start up the server and let you all play a one-off or something.
  13. Re: (Gencon) Win A Dream Date With Hero!!!! Turnabout is fair play.
  14. Re: I draw, you build...(Fantasy Edition) No promises, but you post it and I will try to come up with something.
  15. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Server is up. Nolgroth's Server. Same password.
  16. Re: Fantasy Hero 6E - initial impressions
  17. Re: Fantasy Hero 6E - initial impressions So far I have to agree about the great layout and visual design. I am near the beginning of the book in terms of reading it through, so much of it is repeated theory from the last edition. Still good stuff, but nothing new there. After reading Tasha's message, I went looking for Delayed Use (not hard considering it's a PDF ) and I like. Looking forward to getting into the more "crunchy" bits later.
  18. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? The Marine, Sherlock Holmes and Shutter Island The Marine. In a word; cheese. Luckily it only cost $5. Sherlock Holmes. Very funny. I was somewhat offput by the kung fu Holmes thing, but it was pretty minor. Enjoyed it. Hope they make a sequel where Holmes actually squares off against Moriarty. Shutter Island. Saw the "twist" coming about the time the movie started. It was not all that great, but it wasn't all that bad either. The details of the twist were somewhat interesting and a whole lot sickening.
  19. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Okay. We are at a cross-roads here. I think it best if we hold off on the space opera campaign until all is ready (characters and such). So for the moment we continue with the fantasy campaign? At least until we reach a good story point to stop at?
  20. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Just caught up with the latest Burn Notice and Lie to Me episodes. Good for a bit of distraction. Also started watching Ark, a bunch of short clips that tie together into a larger story. Production is cheap, but the story is something I can sink my teeth into. Stars Renee O'Connor of Xena fame. All nine episodes of Ark roughly equal 1 episode of a standard US broadcast show. I hope there are more in production, but it appears to have been made in 2008 so I am not holding my breath.
  21. Re: FANTASY HERO Sneak Peek #1: The Cover! Wistfully wishful thinking.
  22. Re: Does Knockdown sans Damage Naked Advantage Does Knockdown (+1/4) on up to 20 points of Presence Attack: 5 Active Points. Adjust the 20 points and Active Points as appropriate. For flavor; Must achieve Pre +10 (-1/2) Must achieve Pre +20 (-1)
