  1. Re: How would you build this power? Thank you very much Dust Raven, that is some heroic help! I'm sure I'll be back with more
  2. Re: How would you build this power? That is smart! would it be too much to ask you, Rapier and Dust, or anyone else for that matter , to post a couple of examples? I must confess, I grasp the principal, but the detail is still hazy and any examples would be a great help. I owe you rep Dust.
  3. Re: How would you build this power? Great goopy gobs of goodness fellas, you sure do know how to lend a hand. However, I am still not sure how to target 4 different enemies without making the cost prohibitive. So far I am summoning 4 missiles with the special effect that they emerge from the shell of the carrier rocket. Now, do these summoned rockets have attack rolls themselves or do I have to do some sort of ranged sweep manouevre? Cray
  4. Re: How would you build this power? Thanks for the help guys . "I'm suspecting that means that when one rocket is fired, it can hit up to four targets, or a single target up to four times (or two targets two times, etc.). "- Dust Raven That is it exactly Dust. Spot on even "I think this is for one of the Transformers conversions CA is working on, Prowl perhaps?" - Hawksmoor Observant, as always, and you are close with Prowl; it is Bluestreak. I really like your solution too, Hawk, as far as my poor brain can understand it, but what about targeting individuals, or is that covered by 4 overlapping explosions, which is pretty sneaky . Cray
  5. I'm stumped and wanted to see what you all thought would be a good design for the following power. The power:Twin shoulder mounted rocket launchers, each capable of hurling a shell containing four independently targetable warheads a distance of 8.3 miles with a maximum error margin of 12 feet from target at that distance. Each warhead possesses the concussive force equivalent of 150 Ibs. of TNT. Thanks for your help , Crayadder
  6. Re: Building Optimus Prime Thanks for all your help fellow heros. You made my job easier
  7. Re: Building Optimus Prime The powers are bought as a base and vehicle perk for the combat deck and roller respectively. Doh! Forgot about the range thing on Clairsentiance. I was worried about the mobility and missed it completely. Thanks for the heads up prestidigitator I bought the perks as powers to represent that they are a part of Optimus's being and not just a couple of tools that he can park and forget about as well as replace without thinking about the concequences. It also allows me to use the link disad to link them to his transformation, although I think they should be in existance and useable when he is in both rig mode and robot mode. Problem is then, how do I simulate it when he transforms into robot mode and both disappear, which is the majority of the time? Here's the updated clairsentience. Note the increased range has been pushed to over 2 million because the next level down is only 460,000, which is less than half of what is needed for 1200 miles. Sensor Link with Roller: Clairsentience (Hearing And Sight Groups), Increased Maximum Range (2,343,750"; +1 1/2) (75 Active Points); Only Through The Senses Of Others (-1/2), Conditional Power only with Roller (-1/2) or I could do this Sensor Link with Roller: Clairsentience (Hearing And Sight Groups), MegaScale (1" = 1 km; +1/4), Increased Maximum Range (4,625"; +1/2) (52 Active Points); Only Through The Senses Of Others (-1/2), Conditional Power only with Roller (-1/2)
  8. Re: Building Optimus Prime LoL! That it is. BTW, Here is my write up of roller and the combat platform. Roller: Vehicle, Ranged (+1/2), Increased Maximum Range (937,500"; +1 1/4) (110 Active Points); Feedback (any damage taken by Roller or Combat Deck, Optimus takes and vice versa; -1), Linked (Transformation; -1/4) and Sensor Link with Roller: Clairsentience (Hearing And Sight Groups) (30 Active Points); Only Through The Senses Of Others (-1/2), Conditional Power only with Roller (-1/2) then Combat Deck: Base, Ranged (+1/2) (60 Active Points); Feedback (any damage taken by Roller or Combat Deck, Optimus takes and vice versa; -1), Linked (Transformation; -1/4) I created both as powers in Hero Designer and the purpose of the ranged advantage is to simulate Optimus's control over them from afar. I'm not sure if that is valid though, given that one's a vehicle and the other a base, both usually operated directly by the hero. thanks for all your help, Crayadder
  9. Re: Building Optimus Prime Thanks for the help you 2, I was thinking about duplication as well, but thought it might not be as simple a solution as it could be.
  10. Hello all, I am trying to build big red, but am unsure on how to go about creating Roller and his Combat Platform. I will supply the basic write I have for those who are not familiar with their capabilities. All ideas are appreciated. Prime's Form ...His Prime module, also known as Roller, is a small cart-shaped device that he uses to unobtrusively slip behind enemy lines. He can maintain radio control over it at distances up to 1200 miles. Having Roller present somewhere is like being there himself. He can operate by remote-control his Combat Deck module up to a distance of 1500 feet. The Auto-Launcher mounted on the Deck can use a variety of artillery and radiation beam weapons, including most of those used by his fellow Autobots. The Launcher also includes a highly dexterous grapple-arm which allows it to load itself and change its weaponry. The communications disk antenna mounted on the launcher provides a link between Optimus and all his fellow Autobots within a radius of 50 miles. It can be adapted to a satellite hook-up that increases its effective range 10-fold. Although Optimus Prime can function as three independent modules, injury to any one ot the modules is felt by the other two. Roller is particularly vulnerable, especially in the behind-the-lines situations in which he specializes. However, the Optimus module is by far the most important component of the trio. Although he could survive without the other two, they could not survive without him. So far I have thought of making the Combat Platform into a base and Roller into a vehicle. Optimus would have a clairsentience (only through the senses of others: Roller & Platform) and Mind Link (feedback: Roller & Platform). What do you all think? note: iirc it has been shown on the cartoon that Prime can deploy his trailer and Roller while in Robot and Rig mode

  12. Re: Balancing of the Green Lantern I am playing a successor to Kyle Rayner, who died during a super populated world war 3 in my GM's campaign world. He has the second most points out of any character I have played (534). Even so, because of the vast amount of abilitites he can employ, due to the flexibility of his ring, I tend to have a harder time beating villains that I would more easily vanquish with my lower point, specific powered heros. I think with the removal of boundaries in what a charcater can do comes a greater difficulty in the ability to use said character that somewhat alleviates a higher point total in powers. Obviously, this has less meaning the greater the point gap between characters. It also depends on how long your GM allows you to develop powers when a situation arises. If your GM gives you 1 minute real world time, having the versatility can be a huge drawback compared to a character with a stable powerset. One way I combat this is to create a number of basic effects/powers that I use on a regular basis. This reduces the number of times I have to come up with something on the fly. For instance, my Green Lantern has a standard EB of 12d with the special effect of a green fist forming and striking my target. I think, given the skill of the player and his/her knowledge of the rules will play a large part in how you balance a green lantern styled character as it is ultimately their imagination that will make the character worth its points or not. You could make a green lantern with less points than the rest of your pcs and have a really good rper make him outshine any of them! for what it's worth
  13. Re: 5ER review I only have one small issue with your review--I can't get the word 'crunchy' out of my head. Aside from that, great review; I wanted to buy the book before, but now I NEED to buy the book! Well done!
  14. Re: Land Mines Good point Court Fool... That was just too fun to type . Kinda from the dark side ain't ya?
  15. Re: Land Mines That helps Dust. Thanks very much for the patience, sometimes I'm a little slow .
  16. Re: Land Mines I don't mean to be dense, but wouldn't building a mine in your basement at 2 in the morning then carrying it around with you all day and finally setting it in a doorway that evening fall under that description for delayed effect?
  17. Re: Land Mines Ok, without delayed effect do you have to create the mines on the spot, or can you premake them somewhere else, carry them around, and then plant them?
  18. Re: Land Mines Shadowcat, I think I would go with minus perception to make the mines really hard to detect, and overall damage would be more in keeping with the explosive power of bouncing bettys, imho.
  19. Re: Land Mines Very helpful, thanks Dust Raven . In this particular instance the mines are kept on the character's body in a compartment so are inobvious, but if someone knows they are their they are easy to remove - accessible. If that isn't how it works then I am sure someone will let set me straight. Hmmm... well my character was supposed to be building his own since they are beyond the tech of the world he is on. Is it necessary to have delayed effect or can you explain away their creation through story? Say I have 12 charges on it, how would that affect the power?
  20. Re: Land Mines They are in a 100pt multipower pool. Thanks for the quick responses by the way Love your avatar Sociotard!
  21. Re: Land Mines I don't want a timed detonation. The only way for it to go off is by tripping the trigger. Also, if I buy No Range on it to simulate that I have to place the mines, do I have to stay next to them for them to work or can I walk away to hide until someone comes along to trigger the mine? edit - the compaign is high powered and the mines are IAF.
  22. If I want to make a land mine do I have to buy both Trigger and delayed effect to simulate the fact that the power activates later and by a set circumstance? Also, if I wanted to cover the mine with a layer of dirt or grass, would that require me to purchase invisible power effects?
  23. Re: Young Nerd Outreach Program I also agree that the most direct and greatest influence we can have on the health of P&P is through our children. I don't have any yet, but I plan on the bedtime stories being about the worlds and characters I used and visited while gaming. Who wants to hear Cinderella 8000 times anyway?
  24. Re: Young Nerd Outreach Program Maybe one way to encourage interest in P&P RPGs is to create more TCGs based on existing RPGs and vice versa. This could stimulate interest both ways by exposing more players of one system to the other. Aside from improving exposure to RPGs, if we get more roleplayers playing TCGs they will be in a position to educate those they play with, which would be a perfect compliment to the interest garnered by creating the TCGs themselves. Obviously, in the area of video games a tonne have been made based on P&P systems and worlds already. I think Neverwinter Nights may have been the best game to interest people in the old-fashioned P&P style with its GMing abilities. Of course this is just off the top of my head. I can see how it might have had the opposite affect, but I'd put my money on it actually helping to a limited extent. I think that the ticket to increasing the RPG gamer population is through educating people on the absolute freedom that P&P provides vs any other venue. Neverwinter can't hold a flame to the ability of a good GM to create an atmosphere where anything you can think of can be voiced, considered, and attempted. In the end P&P is a social construct and the individual's fear of not fitting in with the group, of being ostracized, of meeting new people, is it's greatest hurdle, especially given that it is "snickered at by the general population." - atlascott
