  1. Re: Bronze Age Champions Nor do I. I also don't find the death of Jean Grey to be a high point as I never liked the X-Men. But everything Cassandra wrote is a matter of opinion, so why quibble? --Kap
  2. Re: Star Wars Hero: Why should I? (or not) I agree!
  3. Re: Help with modifiying the Green Lantern Oath/Earth Mythology Is this Grey Angel?
  4. Re: Star Wars Hero: Why should I? (or not) Never seen that stuff. If a Jedi behaves the way you described, he should become a Dark Side NPC if he doesn't atone as described in the rules (to lose the Dark Side Point)! But who is to stop your GM from modifying when Dark Side Points are incurred? As for advancement with Force skills, that just means your GM is making it way too easy to find someone to train you. WEG is specifically set during the original movies. It should be a rarity. Advancement that fast just means everywhere you go you're finding a Jedi Master that Vader overlooked somehow during his purge. If you're playing pre-purge, I can't help you as I don't know anything about the new movies. It seems like everybody there is a Jedi and nobody wants to play any other type of character in that setting.
  5. Re: Star Wars Hero: Why should I? (or not) I said the original movies. He got his butt kicked and got eaten by a sand monster. Following Han Solo to Bespin doesn't mean much since Darth Vader caught Solo, not Boba Fett. (I have a hard time believing Boba Fett could fight Ben Kenobi to a standstill without some serious revisionism to both characters--but again, I'm talking about the original Boba Fett who was just a bounty hunter lackey who got his hat handed to him yet somehow became popular.)
  6. Re: Star Wars Hero: Why should I? (or not) What are these limits you claim exist? There are no more limits in WEG than there are in Hero System; that is, only the ones you want. You can make "a Mandalorian trained Bounty Hunter who is mildly Force Sensitive and is 1/4 wookie" if you want. Just assign dice accordingly. Done. Hero System would work pretty well too, so you could use it as well, as long as you want to do all the extra work of calculating stats for various weapons and ships and defining what the Force is and how it works. The beauty of Hero System is you can do pretty much whatever you want if you want to make the effort. For a cinematic genre like Star Wars, I like WEG because action moves quickly. Hero System is very slow in its simulation of combat or chases unless you tweak the rules.
  7. Re: Help with modifiying the Green Lantern Oath/Earth Mythology Might be better still just to lose the rhyme scheme and meter of the original and just cobble together something new that has the same spirit so it's not wholly derivative. Or maybe you could modify the original Green Lantern oath which was a bit different and won't be as familiar to most readers?
  8. Re: Starting a Hero System Podcast .... who is interested? What's a "podcast"?
  9. Re: Star Wars Hero: Why should I? (or not) If you rolled that well and the shooters rolled that poorly, they shouldn't hit. Besides, that's only for 1 round. Boba Fett...I never understood why people think he's such hot stuff. In the original movies he stands around a lot and once a fight starts he gets his butt handed to him.
  10. Re: Star Wars Hero: Why should I? (or not) In the WEG version, Jedi PCs only become too powerful if the GM lets them. In 1st edition, it's never been a problem in my games. I don't see why you think Yoda would get any Dark Side points. Do you envision Yoda using the Force for evil, initiating violence, violating the Jedi code willy-nilly, and killing other than in self-defense? I haven't seen any of the new Star Wars movies and cartoons, so maybe they changed his temperament, but the Yoda I remember didn't go around using the Force to do evil or for selfish gain, and didn't run around hacking off limbs with his lightsaber without provocation. The Dark Side system isn't too restrictive in my opinion, it's there to make sure PCs fight on the side of good. --Kap
  11. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? No, sarcasm would have been "Not another Eurovision Song Contest winner!"
  12. Re: Bronze Age Champions I'm still up for "All-Winners," but some of the players don't seem that interested anymore. I'm hoping it's just due to the holidays. If "All-Winners" dies, I'd welcome you into a Bronze Age campaign to replace it. "World's Finest" seems to be alive and kicking. All our heroes are finally back in Central Park together and there are at least 2 new plots that have already been put in motion by events that have occurred so far, so the game could easily go on for some time. I also have a plot idea that should draw Clockwork Girl into action to endeavor to save a friend/associate. --Kap
  13. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I think your statement that the East has maintained "its historically religious route" as compared to the West is largely contradicted by the existence of secular Japan and Communist-atheist China. There is no "Eastern medicine" any more than there is "Western" medicine, there is simply medicine who efficacy has been proven and there's superstition. Prince Charles believes in "holistic medicine," yet there's no such thing. It's right up there with dowsing on the list of things that have been demonstrated to be ineffective to date. But you'll never convince him of that. As far as "personal experience with Chi" goes, anecdotal evidence isn't evidence. We're still waiting on someone to prove Chi exists, show how to measure it, and explain how it works. As to the divine, the burden of proof rests with the believers, so it's up to them to prove the existence of a higher power, not the other way around. There's no war between science and religion. There's a war on science by (some) religious folks who would prefer that no one question or test what is true. No one will ever prove to a believer that there is no deity, so trying to do so is a waste of breath. People will believe whatever they find comforting and disregard evidence to the contrary.
  14. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Where are they from?
  15. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? "Songs & Dances from Lithuania" by Dainava, "Skies of America" by Ornette Coleman, "Encouraging Words" by Billy Preston, and "In the Hall of the Mountain King" by Edvard Grieg.
  16. Re: Bronze Age Champions Hey, Shadow Hawk, not that I have time right now, but when I do would you be interested in a Bronze Age Champions campaign? Obviously it'd probably only happen after the other games wind down or go on hiatus. Unless I manage to get something together around a table in real life.
  17. Re: Preview of Street Super Hero Character If he is the Fox, shouldn't she be the Kit? I know you can also call a young fox a cub but a kit wouldn't be mistaken for a lion cub, bear cub, etc. I love Zorro. Zorro = fox, is that where you got the name?
  18. Re: Bronze Age Champions Poor Aqualad, Speedy, and Kid Flash! But I feel even worse for Bat-Mite. He really got thrown under the bus.
  19. Re: Bronze Age Champions Those were interesting laissez-faire times.
  20. Re: Bronze Age Champions I have those comics. So awesome. Peter Parker goes to the disco with his friends and has to battle a slick musician with a huge Afro and funky goggles! If only they still made comics that great.
