  2. For the consumption of the Hero Masses. Basically, to quote of of the sites: Here are a few URLs... http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200408/s1177586.htm http://www.skulboy.com/newsblog/archives/2004/09/sky_high.html http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/PersonDetail/personid-5744 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005JNYY/qid=1116807039/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/103-4140171-7083811?v=glance&s=dvd Don't know if it will be good...but hopefully it will. 3. Re: Characters for Hero High Dr. Anomaly & Mightybec, Thank you. Very good character concepts -- they will fit in very, very well. Nadrakas... P.S.: Thanks again Dr Anomaly...I do owe you Rep for finding "Football" for me. Once I figure out how to give Rep...I'll do it.
  4. Hi All, I am running a campaign set in a High School and need a little assistance from those who wish to give a few moments of their time. First, the PCs are all 15 (9th Grade) and are they not Metahumans/Supers/Etc (Yet? Time will tell ). Now, the High School is Bellevue West Senior High Nebraska (http://www.esu3.org/districts/bellevue/curriculum/west/index.htm), and there are about 800-1,000 students & faculty. What I need is NPC High School Student profiles/ideas. I don't have a problem making up NPCs, but...after a while I can become repetitive in my NPCs. So...here's what I need for each NPC (No real stats...I have a basic template for your typical High School Student). Name: Sex: (Male, Female) Race: Ethnic Group: Height/Weight: Eye Color: Hair Color/Style: Distinguishing Feature: General Appearance: Grade: (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th) School Social Grouping: (Jock, Nerd, Preppie, Loner, Dope-Head, Weirdo, Cheerleader, Band, AF ROTC, etc) School Club: Significant Skill/Ability/Talent: (One or two only) Personality: Positive Trait: Negative Trait: Quirks: Any Fears/Manias/Mental Problems?: (Besides being a Teenager in a Grown-Up world) Religion: Any Strong Opinion on Todays issues?: (Abortion, Crime/Gun Control, Environment, Homosexuality, Military Invervention, Progress, etc) Does NPC Drink? and if so, what/how often: Does NPC take drugs? and if so what/how often: Basic Family Structure: (Mom/Dad, 1 parent, Grandparent(s), Guardian, etc) Any siblings? and if so how many?: Short Background: (A few sentences only) I know it's a lot to ask, but your help would be appreciated. I have about 30 or so already drawn up...but I will need more . Thanks... Nadrakas..
  5. Re: Does it fit the character concept or is the player "gaming" the system? Ok...where can I find a write-up of "Football?" I don't care if it's official or not...as long as it's "accurate." Nadrakas...
  6. Re: "Ya better talk Oculon, or you'll get the spike!" (A Super law question) Two items: 1. For those interested, and who have the books, I will refer you to the following Champions (5ER) books: Champions Universe, pages 48 to 50: - Under Constitutional Law it talks about the 8th Amendment's guarantee against "cruel & unusual" punishment, and referenced a Supreme Court (in-game) ruling in James "Smasher" Aronson v. United States, 390 U.S. 1420 (1968). Basically, a supercriminal can be incarcerated in such a way that would be unconsitutional if those methods were used upon a "normal person." An example is given too -- Grond v. Atkins, 109 S. CT 3386 (1989), in which Grond was put into Hot Sleep wherein it was deemed constitutional to hold Grond in Hot Sleep because there was no other way to hold him. There are a few other good examples in this section too. Note: Hot Sleep can be found on page 121 of the Champions book. - Under Criminal Law the use of superpowers against another automatically makes that crime an aggravated assault, no matterh the injury or lasting harm. In other words...Superpowers are considered weapons. Threatening to use superpowers is also a crime - "reckless endangerment." More good advice for a sanctioned hero is in this section too, along with a short discussion of laws/ordinances outlawing specific superpowers. There are other sections included...Criminal Procedures & Evidence. If you are wondering on supers & the law, this short section can act as a good primer. I don't think that Hero's will put out an "Ultimate Law & Order" book, but it's a good place to start. Then again...Steve is a former Lawyer (We don't hold that against you Steve...you saw the light and came to the Gamer Side). 2. Personal Thoughts: - If a person, no matter who they are or what "powers" they have, is sentenced to death...then they will be put to death. If you use the above as a jumping off point then what may be "cruel & unusual" to a normal person may not be to a super with lots of defenses. There may have to be a lot of effort put into executing a super-murderer (ie: The Monster). - The current Penal System: Ok...IMO the prison system is supposed to incarcerate & rehabilitate the people there. Unfortunately it fails to rehabilitate most offenders, who usually end up returning. As far as incarcerating...well, it's not a Turkish or Korean prison but I wouldn't want to be in one. - On being "Human": In the USA of Champions Universe, AI's, Aliens, etc have civil rights...so by extension might a "Demon" & other supernatural creature of Evil. Makes you wonder what a Takofanes v. the United States ruling would be like (Probably everyone marching to the Undying Lords command... ) - Defense: Ok...there is the ACLU in our world, so I think they would be defending these poor "misunderstood" supervillians. If not the ACLU then perhaps a Supers Defense League (SDL) would do it instead. - "Your honor, it is not my clients fault that he destroyed most of Millenium City. It all began several years ago when he was bitten by a radioactive Wombat...." - In a world where supervillians can and have killed many (ie: Dr Destroyer & Detroit...rebuilt & renamed Millenium City...) one could make an argument that the Law would take a more aggressive stance toward these "menaces to society." Anyway...let "logic" rule...and if that doesn't work, then wing it. That's my 2 cents... Nadrakas...
  7. Re: Ring Ring go away.... Simply Gnome, No problem. Glad to be of assistance to a fellow Heroite! One request...could I get a copy of the "power" write-up. Been thinking of doing something along this line for a while, but never got around to it. Nadrakas...
  8. Re: Ring Ring go away.... Simply Gnome, I would say yes, and here is why. On page 320 of 5ER, right column, third paragraph from the bottom -- "Jason Starward builds..............." In short, a Multipower is built with a -1/4 Side Effect, with each slot being a different side effect. I would say that this alone would also make a different Focus for each Multipower Slot legal for the Rings. Here is another example. On page 238 of Hudson City, under the character Card Shark, there is a multipower (Deadly Cards, OIF - multiple OIF stored in a sash) where each slot is a different Focus (Razor Card, Flare Card, Blast Card). This alone would tend to make the different Mandarin Rings viable & legal. Now...I would personally (IMHO) restrict each ring to having only one power with each being an Ultra Slot, but that is up to you. Other characters have had similar related Multipower/Elemental Control Limitations, wherein a Limitation is overall the same, but each slot is a slight variation of the Limitation (ie: Deadly Cards = multiple cards; Gun Armory = Multiple Holstered Guns; etc) Hope this helped. Nadrakas...
  9. Re: Astronomy/Physics question Ahhh...but the Death Star had another purpose -- Terror!!! Destroying the surface of the planet would be a powerful symbol of the Empires might, yet turning a planet into dust shows the Invincibility of the Empire. Thus...the Empire strikes Terror into the hearts of those would resist. Besides, the Empire already had something that could destroy the surface of a Planet -- a Sector Fleet (shrug) -- but that's so "normal seeming." Now a Moon sized star base that can wipe out an entire planet in one shot...a little frightening. Besides, which is more dramatic? Blasting the top layer off of a planet or turning that same planet into dust. Of course...spinning the planet would be truly horrifying, not to mention nauseating. Nadrakas..."Let's play spin the planet Princess Bunhead!!!"

  12. Re: Astronomy/Physics question Ok...I'm hearing that the ship is too small to create a problem other than some moon quakes & a couple of depressions in the moons surface. Sooooooo....here is an option. I will assume that for the sake of argument that the FTL drive of the alien ship is a "Hyperspace" or "Jump" style drive. Now...let's say that when the ship goes to FTL that it actually takes a rather large chunk of the moon with it -- say...100 km radius (200 km diameter) from the center of the alien ship. Here is how that would work out: Moon Facts: (http://www.seds.org/nineplanets/nineplanets/luna.html) - Orbit = 384,400 km from Earth - Moon Radius = 1,738 km Radius (3,476 km Diameter) - Volume = 2.199064287e10 km^3 (21,990,642,870 km) - Mass = 7.35e22 kg (73,500,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg) - STR required to lift = 345 Moons Core: - Core Radius = 340 km Radius (2 percent of the Moons total volume) - Core Volume = 164,636,210.2 km^3 - Core Mass = 1.47e21 (1,470,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg) - STR Required to Lift = 330 Results of 100 km Radius/200 km Diameter: - Volume Removed = 4,188,790.205 km^3 (.019 percent of the Moons total volume, & .75 percent of the Cores volume) - Mass Removed = 3.740077346e19 kg (37,400,773,460,000,000,000 kg or .05 percent of the Moons total mass & 2.5 percent of the Cores mass.) - STR Required to Lift = 305 Ships info (25 x 8 x 4): - Dimensions = 25 km long, 8 km wide, 4 km wide - Dimensions in Hexes = 12,500 Hexes long, 4,000 Hexes wide, 2,000 Hexes high - Ship Volume = 800 km^3 (.000003 percent of the Moons total volume or .01 of the Cores Volume - Ship Volume in Hexes = 400,000 Hexes^3 - Ship Real Mass = Unknown - Mass According to Ultimate Vehicle = 64,000,000,000,000 kg (64 million metric tons. This is .00000008 percent of the Moons total mass or .001 of the Cores mass) - STR Required to lift ship = 158 - Volume Removed = 800 ^3 Formula for Volume = (pi x r^3) * 4/3 So...what does this all mean? Well...consider this -- the 100 km radius "Jump" is 5,235.98775625 times the volume & 584,387.0853125 times the mass of the Alien Ship. In other words...a really big difference. Now personally I would eshew the "numbers" game and go for the dramatic effect. Yet...having really "HUGE" numbers to feed to players will allow for them to truly believe that whatever happens to the moon during the game is plausible. Whew...now that the Math Exercise is over I would like to thank my wonderful wife "Isis" (Who does math for fun) for assisting me (a whole lot) in figuring out the above. She's the smart one in the family. Any mistakes in the above are wholly mine. Nadrakas...

  15. Re: New Online USPD PDF ALLCON, My wife and I spent several hours copying and pasting from the Online Database, and then many, many more hours formating the information to match the original "printed" USPD. (See page 2 of the PDF for this and reference to any "updates") Some quick answers to what has already been posted: Where's the Index?: This is located in page 75. If the Index is not showing up, then try downloading it again as there may have been a "computer downloading glitch." If that doesn't work, then please e-mail me at M_Nadrakas@yahoo.com and I'll send you it (I checked the one posted and it was 100% on-target with the one we crafted) How do I get a power into the PDF?: Send all powers to Steve at SteveL@herogames.com. I want to make sure that Steve see's and agrees with the powers before I put them in the PDF. So...if you have ideas, then draw them up, check your math, and send them to Steve (See page 74 of the PDF for full details) Do I work for DOJ?: Ok, this wasn't asked here (but I did get an e-mail...or two...or three...or more...). No, I don't work for Hero Games. I'm just an impoverished military guy who wanted to contribute something to a wonderful game. I would, one day, like to work for DOJ...but that's in the future (Retirement...3 years or so away...though freelance is always a possibility...) In closing, I would like to thank everyone who has, or will, respond to this or who e-mails me. Thanks and Criticism (tasteful...not "crude") is always appreciated. I would also like to thank Steve and the Hero staff for allowing me to contribute something (even something this small) to the Game! Now...go out there and create more powers!!! (Just don't forget to send them to Steve) V/R Nadrakas
  16. Re: Online USPD PDF ALLCON, Currently my wife is working on the index. We will be doing a few other "formating" fixes to make the USPD pdf flow better...and eventually a "surprise" or two Also...if you want more "powers" please send them to Steve!!! I don't want to put something in the pdf unless it's posted in the Online USPD Database. Thanks... Nadrakas..."BOOM!!! ZAAPP!!! THWACK!!! CRUNCH!!!...Go UNTIL..um..no GO VIPER!!!"
