  1. They could try. Funny thing, in the comic books and sometimes in the RPGs, the Super team have experts that make the techies in the government look like cavemen by comparision. I've played on teams where if some govt stooge tried to 'hack' our comlines, they'd end up getting fed all sorts of fun misinformation while we snickered Hmmm...In the Comics, yes. In the games I run I don't always "mirror" the Comics exactly (That would be...boring). For example, in one of my campaigns, there was a subset of the Intelligence Community that had recruited highly intelligent Supers -- on the "Super Scale" of INT 30+ with appropriate "powers" (Cyberkinesis, Clairvoyance, etc). Their primary job, outside was to keep an eye on "hot spots" around the world, as well as to keep tabs on the Superworld -- both Villains & Heroes. They weren't a "Force" that they players saw "On-Camera," at least not at first, but the Intelligence that they gathered was used to assist the PCs in some of their own investigations (They were a Sanctioned Team) and when the PCs "went rogue" (ie: were framed... ) they became targets of this same Intelligence Asset. Eventually, after a long campaign and many adventures, the PCs were able to piece together enough info to figure out that the "Gnomes" were behind a conspiracy to covertly manipulate the governments of the world. They were able to stop them, and bring them to justice. Or so they thought...afterall, sacrifices have to be made for the Greater Good & Humanity need to be controlled! Sadly, I was not able to continue With Phase II of this long running campaign, as we were all deployed to the Sandbox right after this. However, Phase I "felt" like a good ending, so I let it stand. Good times by all, and that's what counted. Peace. ~ Nadrakas
  2. Ahh...but that doesn't mean that the Government can't focus their resources on these costumed Vigilantes who flaunt their powers in the face of the True Powers who Rule the Country!!! Umm...sorry...had to take my Pills there. (Note: Celebrity Status certainlyhasn't saved any of the Hollywood Types who were convicted of Tax Evasion...just ask Wesley Snipes, along with Martha Stewart, Willie Nelson, Nicolas Cage, Darryl Strawberry, Boris Becker, Richard Hatch & Heidi Fleiss to name just a few. I'd also say ask Al Capone, but he's dead.) Anyway, the Government may not arrest the Hero, but they can make his/her life difficult. Using SIGINT, the Government (ie: NSA, under a "secret" provision of the Patriot Act) could monitor communications by superhero teams (or an individual supers comms). From this, they could eventually discover a lot of information about the team. The same goes for "hacking" into a teams computers (or an individuals computers) -- the NSA could discover even more info. From there it is only a small step toward disrupting the Heroes Private Life (Job, IRS Audit, "blackmailing" the Hero with his Secret ID, etc...) if he/she gets out of line. Not everything needs to be a confrontation with a Heroes costumed identity. Of course, a "Sanctioned" Hero has nothing to worry about. Right? They are, for all intents and purposes, considered "Contractors"...of course, they would still have to pass any Background Checks to get a Security Clearance -- which might prove difficult for some Heroes. Any Background Check requires enough information to be given, that there's a nickname for it -- a "RotoRooter" check. It's even more in-depth if it's for a Top Secret Clearance. Anyway, being a Sanction Hero or Group of Heroes is a Big Plus. However, depending upon the laws, they probably would have to give up their identity (To the Government at least). Otherwise, I think the Government would do it's best to find out who they were anyway -- Sanctioned or not. ~ M
  3. (Above emphasis is mine) I too prefer physical copies, at least for the main books. "Sigh"...I'll have to scrounge for the main books sooner than I wanted too, but I will purchase them. I understand the "pdf" movement...but a physical copy is better IMO. I have a much easier time reading them (especially if they are long...), can write in the margins (yes...write) and they are easier to share among whatever group I'm GMing (pdfs not so much...something about violating copyright laws.). ~ M Edit: PODs are fine by me, as an alternative to purely PDF "only" products. I'm ok with paying a little more for PODs.
  4. I see a new show for a Champions (or a Superhero World) Game: A 1'000 Ways to Die: Supers Edition! All showcasing Supers who die in stupid ways. ~ M
  5. Or, Foxbat could say "Vote For Me" See Channel 3 News: Foxbat for President ~ M
  6. Mmmm...Haggis. Ok, now where do I get some Cheesecake Haggis (Not "Cheese & Haggis")? My daughter (8, soon to be 9) loves Haggis...she also loves Cheese, so naturaly when I told her that Cheesecake Haggis existed...well she wanted some. My little boy (6) wants some too. Haggis, the food of the Gods! Haggis! Haggis! Haggis! Haggis! Lovely Haggis! Wonderful Haggis! Haggis Ha-a-a-g-g-g-i-i-s-s Haggis Ha-a-a-g-g-g-i-i-s-s. Lovely Haggis! Lovely Haggis! Lovely Haggis! Lovely Haggis! Haggis haggis haggis haggis! Served with Tatters, Spinach & Chedder Cheese...Yummie!!! And a Good Beer!!!!!!!!! Enjoy! ~ M
  7. Self Defeating...yep, sounds about right.
  8. Not that I know of. Palladium takes a very dim view of such things...as in a "Cease and Disist Order" from their lawyers. ~ M
  9. I introduced by Wife to the Hero System, oh...about 8-9 years ago. She was hooked and we play it quite a lot. We also play other RPGs too. That's the nice thing about RPGs...there are a lot of them, and you can play whatever you want (Yes, I know...they do cost money, but I've been gaming since '75 and have a lot of, umm...books. About $500K or so worth...). Anyway, the Hero System is still my wife's and mine favorite RPG system -- why? Because, with very little exception, you can play any Genre, any Character and there are very few (if any) rules modifications. Is it perfect? No...no RPG system is. But we like it...and we will raise our two young kids on it -- a 6-year old boy, and a soon to be 9-year old Girl (who is already learning - with help - to build characters in Hero's!). ~ Nadrakas
  10. "Sigh"...all the people from my childhood are passing on. You will be sorely missed Mr Pohl. ~ M
  11. Or if Your name is Ash. "Shop Smart, Shop 'S-Mart!'" ~ M
  12. Watching LoTR: Two Towers, at the part with the Ents, and it got me to thinking. Could she have Plant Growth/Control Powers? The thought of Bad Apple using plants in her escapades is...intriguing. Also, on a more unserious note -- this is a funny thread. Thanks for the laughs. I needed this after work today. Thanks all. ~ M
  13. Thank you TheQuestionMan. Much appreciated on the translation from 5e to 6e. ~ M
  14. 4e was Seeker -- 1992 (As has been stated later in the post), but 4e for Seeker. 5e for Nighthawk. Forgive any "mistake"...not trying to confuse the issue. Didn't register the "2002" -- I do apologize. ~ M
  15. Ok, I ran into the below over at YouTube (Currently 12.7+ Million Viewed), and it got me to thinking of all things FoxBat (Which isn't hard). "What Does the Fox Say": So, take a look - and while you do, insert FoxBat everytime you hear Fox during the Video. Ok? Seen the Video? Now, in the Champions Universe, I can imagine that some of FoxBat's Groupies (followers, fellow committed, etc) would put out a similar Video. This would especially be poignant after FoxBats recent successful Concert...and perhaps, with the calls for a FoxBat-Saphire duet, there might be a "hint" of Sapphire (in the background somewhere) in a "What Does the FoxBat Say?" Video -- which, while amusing, would not be received well by Sapphire. Woa onto FoxBat if Sapphire got ahold of him! Anyway...thought for the Day! Foxbat! ~ M
  16. Ok...for the sake of my sanity, please somebody tell me where he is located. I've bought the books (Yes...after my computer suffered Death by Lightning, I've upgraded to 6e...though I don't have all of the books - yet.). So...which book is he in? Or does he actually have an actual write-up. Thanks. ~ M
  17. I assume, since I can not find it, that the "Effectiveness Rating worksheet" is no longer on the Free Stuff section of Hero's. I used to have it on my computer, but well...one computer crash too many (Just one really) and I don't have it anymore. If anyone knows of an Official version, it would be appreciated. Thanks. ~ M
  18. Re: Champions (Group) Question It doesn't say, but one would hope that they know each others identity. Besides...he may have a mask, but the scars would show a little, and Witchcraft is pretty smart. Nadrakas...
  19. Ok...my better half and I were talking and we came up with a question: In the writeup for Nighthawk he is listed as having a Distinctive Feature: Scars, which is part of the reason the character became a hero -- thanks to Viper!!! (Go Joe...ummm...Go Primus!!!) In Witchcraft's writeup she has a Lesser Witcheries VPP that requires acces to spellbooks to change. Now, here's the question: - If you were Witchcraft would you ask Nighthawk to allow you to Heal his scars? If so...why doesn't she do so in the Champions Universe? Nadrakas...
