  1. Re: Jackalope's Champions The Amazon Player: Summoned by Sketch The Amazon is a bit faster than the Blue Defender, and a more graceful fighter, but she's even dumber, and she's drawn a bit on the risque side. Kevin can't help it, he started drawing the Amazon to look like one of his ex-girlfriends years ago, and so he consquently "sexed her up", and after they broke up, he unconsciously "dumbed her down". He didn't mean to, it was an accident. He was sitting in the backyard, drawing on his little pad of paper with the crayons his mom had bought him that very afternoon. He had drawn a tyrannasaurus rex, and when he went to show his mother, it came to life and ate her. Then it raged through the city and killed a dozen more people before it was brought down. It took awhile before anyone connected Kevin to the t-rex. The social worker who dealt with him (and several other orphaned children) didn't believe him when he said he had drawn it, she assumed it was just shock and delusions of responsibility. She was quite shocked when her office was invaded by a horde of orcs that sprung from Kevin's pen as he doodled. Kevin was eventually spent to a special school for special children like himself. There he was tauight to control his powers, taught how to draw without creating new life. He also learned to draw things as well as creatures and people. Kevin was tempted by the superhero life, and many of the children he attended the school with went on to such a life, but Kevin always remained a little afraid of what his pen could unleash. Eventually Kevin was 18, and his life was his own. He enrolled.in a fine arts school, and now works as a professional illustrator and designer. Kevin doesn't fight crime, but he'll come to the aid of other's in need if he sees something happening. It's pretty rare that anyone sees Kevin Hall, but his trademark characters have a tendancy to show up in when people are in need of rescuing, and the press is quick to thank Kevin "Sketch" Hall. PERSONALITY: Kevin wishes he were a real boy...that is, he wishes he didn't have this tremendous power, and he wishes he hadn't had to pay sucha great cost for it. Kevin would gladly give up his powers if he could just have his mommy back. Kevin isn't a particularly heroic person, he is just as scared of physical violence as the next guy, and he knows he isn't very tough. But he feels a tremendous responsibility for his actions, for the 16 people that died as a result of his first use of his power. He's determined to use his powers to help people, if he's going to use them at all. Kevin doesn't get excited about his powers, doesn't brag about them. He sees them as more curse than blessing, but if he can help people, he will. QUOTE: "This looks like a job for the Blue Defender. Just let me find a pen." POWERS/TACTICS: Kevin's favorite tactic is to stay as far from the action as he can. Instead he'll sit back somewhere he can just barely see the action from, and draw characters and send them into the fight. He has a stable of favorite characters, such as the "Blue Defender", and he generally uses them as proxies. If he knows a villain has a particular hunted, he likes to draw a fascimille of that person and send them in to fight. Kevin can also use his powers in all sorts of strange ways to get out of various pinches, but he never uses them to dirrectly attack anyone. That's just not his style. CAMPAIGN USE: The "Poster Boy For 'Dangerous Mutants'" disadvantage means that whenever an anti-mutant group is offering up examples of "the dangers of the mutant menace", Kevin's childhood incident usually gets mentioned.
  4. Re: Character Posting Game. Well, remember two things: he can get bonuses to his die rolls by taking more time, and the GM can cheat on die rolls. I really included it more as an example of how to build such a power. PCs will obviously have to limit themselves to summoning 350 pt beasties (which is still plenty, and surprisingly cheap).
  5. Re: Archmage Stats He choose the "Add to Secondary Value" option for all the defenses, so Hero Designer added them all up, and created a second value - as if all the slots in the defense multipower were active at once (it's a "dumb" program, and doesn't handle multipowers well). To fix it, he'll have to go through and change each of them to the "Does not add to totals" option.
  6. Re: Character Posting Game. BACKGROUND: Kevin is an eight year old, mildy autistic, mutant prodigy, with the ability to alter reality. Anything Kevin draws comes to life. His powers began to manifest twenty minutes ago. Kevin watches a lot of movies. His favorite is Lord of the Rings. Kevin's mom took Kevin to the park half an hour ago, and he demanded his markers and paper. Ten minutes later, a tyrannosaurus rex went rampaging through the park. One of his first victims was Kevin's mom. Kevin doesn't mind, things don't phase Kevin very easily. Kevin just keeps drawing, at the rate of about one a minute. A few minutes ago he drew a band of orcs, then he drew Arwen (though he calls her Irwin). She gave chase to the orcs, and is now lost somewhere in the city. Kevin is drawing "Sourman" now (Saruman the White). Next, he was thinking about drawing that big evil eye... PERSONALITY: Kevin is mildly autistic, and is unable to form meaningful emotional connections to the events around him. He is very inquistive and curious about the world, but seems strangely detached from it as well. Kevin doesn't mean to hurt anyone, but his drawings have minds - and motivations - of their own, and when Kevin draws evil characters, they do evil things. Kevin's favorite things are Lord of the Rings and Dinosaurs, but he also enjoys most comic books, cartoons, and sci-fi/action movies, and he's also capable of creating his own characters. QUOTE: "Didja ever see Jurassic Park? With the rappers? The rappers are cool. Here, I'll draw you some..." POWERS/TACTICS: Anything Kevin draws comes to life - it becomes a real example of what Kevin drew, assuming he draws it with reasonable profciency (a quick sketch will do). CAMPAIGN USE: Mutant child with dangerous, but inobvious, powers threatens entire city quite by accident. It's an instant classic. 8. Re: Character Posting Game. Background: When Boss Grissom needs to take someone out all subtle like, that's when he calls on Dino "the Rat" Donacelli. Dino is a sleazy, ammoral operator with a penchant for sticking his nose in other people's business. Sometimes a problem that can't be killed can be convinced to simply go away - skeletons in the closet can hold tremendous power after all. Nobody is particularly scared of Dino, and he's not much to look at, but lord help anyone who crosses him. While Dino himself isn't very scary, he knows everyone, and they all owe him a favor - or if they don't, he knows something about them he can use to extract one. Personality: Dino is a small, weak, ugly man. He's scared of other people, and desperate to have power over them. He discovered a long time ago that people want to keep their image clean, and that if you can dirty it, that gives you power over them. So, Dino has found a way to be powerful despite his lack of looks, charisma, strength, courage or much of anything else. 10. Antimaster This is ANTIMASTER. A nucler physician, Howard Roberts was betrayed by his own partner (who wanted to steal credit for Roberts' inventions), and locked inside his own Antimatter Conversion Chamber. Transformed into a being of pure Antimatter, Roberts has gone rather insane. After revenging himself on his former partner, he has set out on a rather self-contradictory path: he wishes both to conquer the world and to undo his own transformation. Likewise, Roberts tactics are somewhat off: he likes building doomsday devices and holding the world hostage, but he loathes the idea of actually killing anyone. 14. Re: PLEASE ! No more 'What would your character do ?' threads I read the WWYCD? threads, and I find them fairly interesting, but I have to agree that there are just way too many of them. Last week we were on #72, and now they are almost at #100. That's crazy! And with so many exploding, the general quality has gone down. Some are just very minor variations on previous ones (the spate of time-travel ones for example), others are so narrowly defined that they don't work for many characters, etc. Maybe we could have a vote and pick one person to post one WWYCD? a week, and then everyone who has ideas for a WWYCD? thread could send their ideas to that person, and every week they could post the one they think is best. That way we don't lose the concept of the thread, and those of us who enjoy reading it will still get to see it, but it won't drown out all other conversation...? I dunno, it's worth thinking about.

  18. Re: WWYCD #92 - Zero Sum Peacekeeper is an alien, so this wouldn't apply to him. Compared to others of his species, he has no superpowers. He's about twenty times stronger than a human being, but that's true of his species, not just him. While his species could be seen as "violent" (not really though), there aren't any superpowered Urquat AFAIK. Iron Demon's Response: "Yes" What does he care? He's a supernormal. Unless Cosmic Boy alters the laws of physics so that combat enhancing drugs, explosive hand gernades, and other techno doo-dads don't work, he's got nothing to worry about. As for his enemies, I'm sure Foxbat is thinking the exact same thing.
  19. Re: WWYCD #91 - A matter of Family I'll assume you mean any other role-playing game, and then I'll accuse you of either missing or ducking my point. What seperates Champions from other role-playing games? Why play Champions rather than Forgotten Realms, or Vampire, or Toon? Gee, maybe it's because you want a game THAT SIMULATES COMIC BOOKS!!! Argh. Who said anything about being railroaded? And what if you're being railroaded and it's not arbitrary? Are you one of those super obnoxious players that won't even let a GM set the scene without complaining about something? How much is the GM allowed to particpate in hsi own game before it constitutes "railroading"?
  20. Re: WWYCD #91 - A matter of Family Wow. That attitude would get you bounced from my game in seconds flat. Of course, your use of "DM" is a pretty dead giveaway where you picked it up. What is the goal of the game Champions? To simulate the action and adventure of a comic book, no? Yes. Anyways... No response for Peacekeeper the alien member of a hive species from 5 trillion light years away, for obvious reasons. Iron Demon's Response: Clayton's mother is dead, and he has no brothers and sisters, so I don't see how giving blood to his grandfather would reveal his identity as Iron Demon. If the old man was suspicious, I'd tell him the truth (plus some embellishment); "I was going through grandmother's things, found out who you are, looked you up and found out you were sick, and I'm here to help. I know you are Professor Muerte, but I don't care. Personally, I agree with what you're doing. Mankind is little more than easily terrified sheep, and they should be ruled by fear and power." and then in a thought bubble (("The Iron Demon knows as well, and he cares! You'll see how he cares!!!")) Then, as Clayton, he would make available the resources of Clarke Enterprises, my time, everything, and convince his grandfather that he is his one true heir. Then, once he'd infiltrated the organization and the grandfather had begun to trust him, he would STRIKE! He would return in the night as Iron Demon, slip past the defenses, and blow up the headquarters, then beat his grandfather to a pulp. If his identity was revealed in the fight - say Muerte stunned him and pulled off the mask, stumbling back in shock as he recognized his own grandson, giving ID time for a Recovery - Iron Demon would only laugh and say "The bonds of blood are not strong enough to quench the bloodlust your EVIL PROVOKES IN ME KILLER!" and then he'd kill him. Not a comic book my ass.

And, while it's not mentioned there, it is the cause of the explosion of Mystery Men (who mostly gained their powers in the East), and the source of the Nth Mutation, which is of course, where Mutants come from. Because see, they have the Nth Factor. Shut up, I know I'm not original. And no, there are no Nth-Men. Yet.
  23. Re: Jet City Champions Campaign Log Uh, guys...
  24. Re: Jet City Champions Campaign Log Hey, don't look at me, I just copied the Champions Timeline from Chapions Universe and modified it as needed to suit the changes I made. Like, in my campaign world there are no Empyreans, but there are the Commissee Va, who combine elements of both the Inhumans (Marvel), the Agaardians and Olympians (Marvel), and the Martians (as in DC's Martian Manhunter). The timeline is filled with a tremendous amount of useless trivia, yes. But hey, maybe someone will read it over and get a great idea for a character. And if people want to ask me lots of questions about it, that's cool so long as it's done here, or in email, or anywhere outside the game. Plus, I wanted to give players the sense they were playing characters ina world where superheroism is as much a part of the world as it is in DC and Marvel (particularly Marvel) comics.
