  1. Re: A Wicked Situation...

Blackcat would use her Ch'i adjustment to heal any physical issues to make her completely healthy, then her 90 pt psychic healing to get her memories back*. She would take her under her wing and strengthen her will and self confidence until she is a fully functioning person again. Then based on the description of the villain in the companion thread, she would find him, beat him to a bloody pulp, and then trans-dimensional travel with him to find a world that is run by amazons and have them break him as a form of poetic justice. Cat is currently over 1200 points with a huge pool - in some ways she is Deux ex Machina woman.

    * if her abilities were insufficient she would take the woman to her fiance who is another worlds single greatest telepathy, who could do it. Failing that the organization she works for has some people to help. At 1200 points she is an agent for them - a high end agent, but not the top of the heap.

Obviously this thing isn't in the type of games she plays in. :D

  2. Re: Jokes

There was another great variation of that routine where there were three bands scheduled to be on the stage: The Who' date=' The Band, and Yes. At the end, teh frustrated stage manager asked hte promoter to write down the names of the acts, to which he replied, "If I could write, I wouldn't be stealing someone else's routine!"[/quote']

Micheal McKean was one of the two - I remember hearing it on Dr Demento back in the late 80s or so.

  3. Re: Zl'f portrait by Storn

Cool. I know how stoked I was when I could get Storn to do Black Cat. When you can get a pro artists (especially one connected to the game you play) to do the art of a long term character is just too cool for words.

Having read about Zl'f for years, it was cool to see her. :D

  4. Re: "Neat" Pictures

Aha! Now I know where I saw Hawkeye! He's one of the chefs from Ratatouille! Still not sure who Iron Man is.

    The villain from Up.

Thanks. Never saw the Rat movie*, and I've only seen Up once. He was vaguely familiar but didn't know where.

    * not meant as a dismissal or insult I just can never spell "Ratatouille"

  5. Re: Take a Teammate to a Movie

Smokeater I am pretty much exempting as he played in this game :)

Black Cat - being serious and studious herself would likely take her to Saving Private Ryan - showing that what one person's death can accomplish for others. Although as she had died and come back from it, she would talk about that with her too.

Sift - Wizard of Oz. Light movie, classic, and has a message about not giving up when things look too bleak.

Terminal Velocity - He wouldn't know how to relate to this person - but he'd pick the avengers. Or something like it. Big summer blockbuster that looks amazing on the screen. He's a teenager.

Meeb - The Blob. Of course.

  6. Re: Lux Aeternum (Hero Abbreviations)

    IIDD: Implant Induced Detachment Disorder

    CGCS: Catastrophic Genetic Cascade Syndrome

Both are defined on page 115, and complications arising from making technological changes to one's own body (via cybernetics or gene-splicing).

    Sorry about the unclarity.

No problem I just did a casual read then went right to reading writeups - which is what I usually do. :)

  7. Re: Project WyrmStar

Just got three of these (Widening Gyre is coming as soon as it restocks) - Wreck of Alpha Central, Lux Aeternum, and Terracide. Haven't read in full detail, but based on skims they all look really nice.

I'm addicted to Blackwyrm settings now. I'm going to have to pick up more when I have more money.

  8. Just got Lux Aeternum - did a quick scan and then reading mechanics.

Two abbreviations I didn't know - might be base books. might be Star Hero or might be in Lux Aeternum and I haven't read it.

Both preced with "if GM is using X then the cost is"

    X being IIDD and GCGS.

Given I've not played 6E, but I didn't expect to come do a dead stop in an Hero book due to abbreviations.

  9. Re: Destroy Your Geek Cred!!

I think that The Postman is a better post-apocalyptic film than any of the Mad Max franchise.

    The movie wasn't bad.

I loved the book - one of my favorites, but there was no way that could make it to film. The story they created using that background worked very well. :D

  10. Re: Why I prefer HERO System over Pathfinder/OGL/D&D for fantasy

To expand on a point some others have made' date=' one reason I prefer the [i']HERO System[/i] for Fantasy gaming is that it lets me tailor the magic system and spells to the campaign setting better than any other RPG I know.

    That too :)

I'll share an experience here - I'm into game theory - GNS, Play experiences from system, immersion or not - all that stuff. And I tend to analyze my playstyle every few years. It helps me logicially and with Critical Thinking look at RPG rule systems to see if I like them. That isn't my only input either - there is always the "This is Cool!" factors...

So play and GM fantasy Hero. My wife runs my character solo; using the rules I've made. I modeled my magic system on Rolemaster's fairly strongly. 3 realms, and an old style of magic that was all at once. Differing abilities to case which kind of magic (using Perks), Mana point system. Also converted a whole lot of spells.

And with the magic system I really liked and Hero, I didn't need any other Fantasy system right?

But I kept going back to D&D (3rd, then 4th) And I really looked at that - thinking "What am I getting from D&D that I don't get from Hero?" I felt fairly constrained in 3rd ed D&D, but kept playing it. What I realized -

    1) I love having a huge list of abilities and choosing from them (Feats, or spell selection)

    2) I loved the gonzo feel you could have with a lot of 3rd party supplements with races in. You could have a D&D tavern that looked like the Cantina is Star Wars (which is how we ran our D&D)

    3) I loved the preponderance of classes and prestige classes.

So I basically converted over 200 feats to FH talents. I made Hero writeups for all the races I wanted (I ended up with about 30 beyond what was in the various FH books. I built a whole punch of professional packages - some with certain abilities only purchasable in you bought the package (I ran paladin stuff like that already).

Now I don't look to D&D - I found every element I liked about other fantasy gamed (Spell systems, feats, etc) and adapted them. Yeah it was a lot of work (still going I'll likely not stop until I have 1000 pages of spell write ups.. sometime 20 years from now). But I got the exact thing I liked from a number of different RPGs to work in my Fantasy Hero game - no other game lets you do that.

  11. Re: 3rd edition Supplements

I have seen scans Wings online in archives because it is so rare. It's actually a good suppliment too. It's a shame people don't understand the plot. I actually bought it in a lot of ebay last year very cheap.

I bought mine at a local game store that was notoriously lazy about recalls and such. So I picked it up pretty close to when it came out, but after the recal - at cover price.

  12. Re: 3rd edition Supplements

No, I am not going to sell my copy of it. No, I am probably never going to read it again.

I actually played it for a bit - it was fun in a goofy sorta way. I liked the vehicle rules better than the standard ones at that time.

As for pricey/valuable - Wing of the Valkyrie is probably the rarest and near the expensive end on old books.

And no I won't sell mine.
