  1. Re: Superpowers that haven't been thought out... Anatarctic Vibranium's the one that melts metals. Wakandan Vibranium absobrbs sound/kinetic impacts.
  2. Re: Marvel's Exiles: Hyperion Challenge--build a team to beat him! Yes.... but what does logic have to do with comics?
  3. Re: Marvel Universe trivia D'oh, can't believe I forgot the Quantum Bands!
  4. Re: Marvel's Exiles: Hyperion Challenge--build a team to beat him! Hyperion (or, at least, the version shown in Exiles) has no iron in his blood, as he himself told Magneto when Erik tried just that trick on him. Hyperion then killed Mags. Hyperion is an Eternal, so devices/powers that negate Mutant powers (like Leech) won't/shouldn't work on him. He's been shown to be massively powerful, or at least indirectly shown to be such. If memory serves, on one of the worlds the team went to (back when Hyperion was on the team), he took out most of the superheroes in Manhattan, including the Hulk. (I believe he tore the Hulk's arm off and force him to eat it!) As metnioned Rogue touched him and absorbed his powers, but he retained most all of his abilities and didn't go unconscious, something typically only seen of entities like Loki. As mentioned, he claims to've killed every superbeing in his home Reality, including Galactus; when the governments of Earth tried one last gambit to stop him by launching nukes at him, he was largely unharmed but Earth was reduced to a wasteland. He defeated Holocaust (the son of Apoclaypse from the AoA reality; massive radiation powers and can drain life force from others) by literally absorbing him (Hyperion, like Superman, derives his powers from absorbed ambient radiation). He's got massive regeneration/resurrection powers, since he completely regenrated from little more than a head and shoulders and a bit of leg (after Gambit rammed a charged Soulsword through his spine). Hyperion, and all of the Squadron Supreme, are essentially Marvel's take on the JLA, with Hyperion obviously being the Superman homage/rip-off (depending on how one looks at it). If you're trying to figure out how to take out Hyperion, think of how to take out Superman, should Superman have the mindset of the typical backstabbing powergamer. The really odd thing is that it's been hinted at that Beak (a scrawny bird-man) is the only Exile team member who can stop Hyperion.
  5. Re: Marvel Universe trivia Yeah, Skull really should be able to use the Cube. He's used it many times before, even absorbed all of it's power into himself at one point. As for other "Items of Power" in the MU: The Casket of Ancient Winters (contains mystical forces that could reproduce the overwhelming frigidity of another of the Nine Worlds, Niffleheim, the realm of ice) The Darkhold (written by Chthon eons ago, is the most powerful book of arcane and black magic on Earth. The Darkhold contains the vast majority of all of the Earth's ambient occult lore, collected and written down by Chthon ages ago. It also contains original creations by Chthon, like the formula for the creation of Vampires) Gungnir, the Spear of Odin Infinity Gems (already mentioned) The Mandarin's Ten Rings (a Fascist using the Alien weaponry of a Communist-turned-Capitalist!) Mjolnir, the Hammer of Thor (perhaps Skull could get some fomrer Nazi occultists to forge him an Evil version of it) Serpent Crown (already mentioned) The Terminus Armor (it's several hundred feet tall) Terrigen Mist (the stuff that gives the Inhumans their powers) Thurdstrock, the Mace of Odin Twilight, Surtur's "Sword of Doom" Ultimate Nullifier (already mentioned)
  6. Re: What's the most ridiculous PC you've ever been subjected to? From some superhero games I've run using other systems: The Mad Badger -- a Wolverine clone (regeneration, retractable bone claws, berserk) who was raised by his uncle, a Texas Oil Tycoon. Mad Badger inherited his uncle's superhumanly bad fashion sense, and had a mullet. The player also refused to, in HERO terms, put any points into the Money Perk, yet had the character act like he was exceedingly wealthy. The character also continuously pestered Mr. Blue & Ms. Green (the "Keepers" of the team, which was funded by a branch of the FBI) to have metal bonded to his bones and claws (so he'd be tougher). Minimum Force -- ex-circus performer who gained his powers by drinking Barbasol (that blue-green alcohol product barbers soak their combs and other utensils in). He gained the ability to shrink, fly, and to project a field of razorblades (made of generic force energy) that whirled around him (protecting him, damaging foes who touched him, and could be fired off like an EB). And n-ray vision... blocked by flesh. In the most recent game, when Minimum Force was surrounded by several goons as he faced down against "Mr. Big," he swooped in, stole Mr. Big's large fluffy cat, and used it as a shield/hostage, threatening to kill it if Mr. Big's men didn't back off. Stinger -- a subject of one of the government's earlier super soldier products, she had the ability to fly and communicate with insects due to the infusion of bee and wasp DNA into her genetic structure. She also gained an uncany knack with all ranged weapons, and so trained as a sniper. Her favored weapon: a .50 caliber anti-tank gun. She's also a Native American Indian, and is bigoted against Caucasians/"Whitey," preferentially aiming for them first. If I'd planned on running an Iron Age, or even a Golden Age campaign, these wouldn't have been so bad. However, I'd told them all at the beginning, and numerous times throughout, that I was running a Silver Age game.
  7. Re: [newbie] Summon with Focus Question Beastial -- since you cheated, I ain't tellin' and since you didn't name the source, the award still goes unclaimed AlHazred -- The Chromdogs given in the HSB aren't automatons, they're simply trained guard dogs that've been cybernetically enhanced. They normally have the Psychological Limitation: Must Obey Master (Very Common, Total). The "Devoted" (+3/4) Advantage instills that same level of PsychLim into the summoned critter.
  8. Re: [newbie] Summon with Focus Question A slighlty different version: Still no takers on where the name is from?
  9. Re: Character for review -- Polaris Nice! How did you get that to format so well? I'd kinda like to post my own GG character for review (it being my first HERO character), but if I post it, I'd like to make sure it's done in a clear-to-read manner.
  10. Re: Global Guardians PBEM: 3 Immediate Openings Huzzah!!!
  11. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form The X-Men's Unstable Molecule uniforms (similar to the ones worn by many Avengers and the F4) don't offer any protection, they just synch up to the wearer's body & powers. Mr. Fantastic's U-M outfit stretches with him, Invisible Woman's U-M costume automatically turns invisible along with her, the Human Torch's costume doesn't get burned away when he immolates himself, etc.. It's a pseudo-scientific/plot device way to explain why a Mutant's body-warping/altering abilities don't destroy their colorful outfits every time they use their powers.
  12. Re: Calling Marvel fanatics Mmmm... Canadian bacon... *drools* Steven Grant.
  13. Re: Calling Marvel fanatics Nightcrawler was originally developed by David Cockrum for DC Comics, to be used in their Legion of Super Heroes. Cockrum intended him to be a member of an extradimensional race that was the basis for many of the myths of demons; when wizards in ages past summoned forth demons, they were actually opening dimensional portals to his home realm. Nightcrawler's main thing was a bestial/nocturnal body & animalistic mannerisms, and the teleportation was something used rarely b/c it used up too much energy. Predatory ability. Enhanced senses to track prey, healing factor to help survive the fight to take down that prey. .... I got nothin'. ( Actually, I believe it has been stated in a few comincs that in the Marvel Universe, psionic energy is a part of the electromagentic spectrum; this is even mroe true now since the X-Man transmogrified into pure psionic energy and interlaced himself with Earth's EM field. )
  14. Re: Calling Marvel fanatics He was also fairly wealthy, too.
  15. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form *does a bit more research* Hunh, seems Colossus touched and kissed Rogue without effect in X-Men (2nd series) #100. Apparently a storyline was planned, but with Piotr dead, it will probably be forgotten about. Then again, he did get better (resurrected in Whedon's Astonishing X-Men). However, she has touched & absorbed his powers in: Uncanny X-Men #179; X-Men & Alpha Flight (1st series) #1; Heroes for Hope #1; Uncanny X-Men #208 & 247; and X-Men (2nd series) #80, 102, 106, and 107. ( http://www.uncannyxmen.net/db/spotlight/showquestion.asp?faq=10&fldAuto=56&page=11 )
  16. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form Immune to Rogue's touch? She's mimicked his powers on at least one occassion in the past. Uncanny X-Men #194 (June 1985), she absorbed the powers of Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Shadowcat to take on Nimrod (the Uber-Sentinel from the future). By the by, a fairly decent write-up of Colossus (in terms of both stats & background/history) can be found here.
  17. Re: Calling Marvel fanatics I've heard Whedon's doing good stuff on Astonishing X-Men, putting things back itno a more four color feel and less a "gritty/angst-y/biker-wear" vibe. Getting back to Emma, I don't believe she's shown any degree of Superhuman strength while in her diamond form, just a surpassing degree of resistance to injury.
  18. Re: Calling Marvel fanatics Yeah, it's her "Secondary Mutation" (something Morrison introduced in his run on New X-Men; other secondary mutations include Beast's now leonine form and Angel's ability to heal people with his blood). When she's in her diamond form, she's immune to mental attacks/powers, but her own psychic senses/powers are all completely shut off. The "flaw" bit can either be a true flaw in her form (Reqires Activation Roll for her Damage Resistance?), or can be interpreted as a power that the guy who hit her and broke her diamond-form nose had (specifically, Find Weakness). I personally go for the latter.
  19. Re: [newbie] Summon with Focus Question Does this work? ( 3 Experience Points to the first person to correctly identify where C4R-C.A.S. is from )
  20. Re: [newbie] Summon with Focus Question I was thinking Transform might've been the main alternate way to do this. No, I'm not GMing, I only got the HERO book a month or so ago and this gadgeteer is my first shot at making a HERO character.
  21. Re: Global Guardians PBEM: 3 Immediate Openings Exxxcellent... *steeples fingers*
  22. Re: [newbie] Summon with Focus Question Canonically... nothing. or did it...? (In additioon to using Dr Archeville as a handle, I also use him in quasi-fanfics that were once written on the Axalon UnderGround.)
  23. Re: [newbie] Summon with Focus Question Ah, okay, that makes sense. Thanks As for TF's -- far as I know, I'm the only one in the worldwide fandom who's used this character's name (or any variant spelling of it) as a handle (and I've used it for about seven or eight years).
  24. Re: [newbie] Summon with Focus Question Yeah, No Range (and Extra Time) would fit. The Gadgeteer in question would only do it to stray dogs with no collar... honest
