Note that 'purported immigrants' covers anyone in all of Texas that LEOs think might have immigrated illegally. It's a "papers please" law except that they might ignore your papers anyway. Federal power to determine immigration law is usually held to derive from the Congressional power to determine citizenship, as enumerated in the Constitution. Instead this SCOTUS, which last week was wringing its hands about the possibility of a patchwork of state laws for federal elections, allowed Texas to implement its own immigration law.

I didn't buy a ticket for Villenueve Dune One because pandemic, so I streamed it. I'm trying to see Two but it's three hours long, so it's even harder to work into my schedule than a regular movie. I'm hoping to see it on IMAX; Dune One was gorgeous like all Villenueve films so it's a good candidate for the megascreen.

It might have been a win for Fields if the Steelers hadn't picked Arthur Smith to be their coordinator. That guy does not know what he's doing. Otherwise it's a win for the Steelers, holding out until Fields' market dried up and then picking him up for a bag of footballs. He's at least a midrange starting QB just based on athletic ability. The problem for the Bears is that everyone knew they had to move on from Fields, so they were just waiting for him to get cut. Draft in 5 weeks.

You don't have to wonder; this is absolutely what's happening. The thing about SCOTUS is that it has no enforcement capability of its own. Its power derives from its perception as an impartial arbiter of law. Today's SCOTUS includes of two openly corrupt justices, one more who stole his seat from Garland, and two shockingly unqualified justices who were installed as a reward for helping with Bush v. Gore back in the day. Now we get rulings where logic and stare decisis are jettisoned in order to come to a predetermined political outcome, such as Dobbs, or Bruen which my state has elected to ignore, or Colorado. Thus, trust in our institutions is eroded, as intended.
