  1. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Every day there are more potholes for me to detect and avoid on my dark morning commute. I swear the next car I buy is going to have a rally suspension.
  2. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I've seen professional paintball on ESPN2 and have concluded that it's a poor spectator sport, especially on an inflatable field. I'd still come out, though, except I'm pretty far from L.A.
  3. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread I demand a YouTube link.
  4. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Spam is awesome.
  5. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Does anyone else remember a time when Britney Spears was a sixteen-year-old former Mouseketeer whose wholesome and innocent public image earned her superstardom and critical acclaim? Who publicly discussed her hope to retain her virginity as long as possible?
  6. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Hey, I hadn't noticed. Cool. And unfortunately, the bunny fell victim to the old fake-head-and-fake-quickening trick! Works every time. You kids never learn.
  7. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Hobbes also plays with Lego!!
  8. Re: The cranky thread I shoulda stayed in Albuquerque.
  9. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER The really big culprit is Siebel, followed by a couple of other CRM software mfrs. These clowns code for IE and nothing but IE, and then dumb@ss CIOs who don't know any better buy it for any website that requires even a marginally complicated back end database. So although I have 98% of my company on low-maintenance Macs, I have to support Parallels or VMware or Virtual PC on all of them, with Windoze licenses, just so that everyone has a copy of Windows IE6 they can use to use vendor configurators or bid on gubmint contracts. I have yet to see any of these sites done in a way that couldn't have been done better in PHP/MySQL or (if it was reeeally complicated) Javascript or even Flash. Siebel has to be one of the bigger scams going on in the IT industry today.
  10. Re: The cranky thread Broke down? Wrong fuel shouldn't really break the car so much as require that you siphon it out and put right fuel in. Not to say that it's impossible, though. Highway driving is easy. Fast, yes, but it's all in a straight line. Lane changes are iffy but if you can look over your shoulder without reflexively turning the wheel in the process, you should be fine.
  11. Re: A Thread for Random Musings You know what throws me off? Cartoon terrain. All cartoons have the same terrain. GI Joe, Transformers, Robotech, Pokemon, Samurai Champloo--every one of them takes place in a mostly barren wasteland of dirt and rock formations, without even a weed in sight. Once in a while, for a change of scenery, an episode will occur in a forest in the wilderness--one that's perfectly level, with trees of identical appearance and height, and no undergrowth unless they're looking for something small. Cities? Swamps? Ravines? Streams and rivers? Tall grass? Not here.
  12. Re: The cranky thread Friday was going great! Then I got an email from my boss: I immediately raced over to his office to find out what was the matter. But I'd missed him; he'd gone out drinking with the sales guys. The good news is he'll be in a much better mood on monday. The bad news is now I get to stew about it all weekend.
  13. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread Free pizza for lunch! And it's friday, for what it's worth.
  14. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Note to self: henceforth, when paying the bills, make sure you are using the checkbook corresponding to the account that actually has money in it. Moron.
  15. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Resist the temptation! It's always better to aim for center mass, unless you know the target is armored.
  16. Re: The cranky thread Uh oh, the project is on a clear downward trajectory that will almost certainly terminate in a smoking crater. You can tell because the people involved are ejecting. Just hope I'm not caught in the blast radius--but cleanup will almost certainly be at least partly my responsibility. Fortunately, I'm much too tired to be angry today!
  17. Re: The cranky thread Oh, look, Bazza is incapacited from food poisoning, and contains both Death Tribble's quickening and his own. (ignites saber) Now I too will have Flaming Eye Power!
  18. Re: Musings on Random Musings As are the Raiders, believe it or not.
  19. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER IIRC computerization and improvements in torque converter hydrodynamics are causing this. But I still greatly prefer a manual, even over the good tiptronics I've driven. About the only time I'd really prefer an automatic is when I need my non-wheel hand to shoot back.
  20. Re: The cranky thread This impromptu con call has now lasted 90 minutes. I have said nothing so far, since I am mostly irrelevant to it, yet I must stay here to make sure nobody on my end promises something stupid. But oh, gods, what a stupid, stupid customer.
  21. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread Pepperoni pizza.
  22. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I waste so much time with people calling me for surveys or wanting to sell me something or wanting me to sell things for them. Or more accurately, it's not the time wasted so much as the unnecessary interruptions.
  23. Re: The cranky thread Fire me boy!
  24. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread Finally, instead of watching people talk about football, I can watch people, like, play football.
