  1. Thank you so much for doing something I'd like done but wasn't going to take the time to do myself! So, it looks like to convert guns from Hero System Equipment Guide (HSEG) to Monster Hunter International (MHI) rules, I just need to change the STR Min value and drop the Real Weapon limitation?

Or personally, my preference would be to change the STR Min value but keep the Real Weapon limitation and import the jam/malfunction rules into my MHI game.

  2. I googled the error I was getting when I tried to extract the files using just the basic onboard Windows 7 unzip function, and found this helpful tip:

"Can’t extract zip file: An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file Posted on January 31, 2013 by admin

I downloaded a zip file and tried to extract it (on Windows 7)

An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.

    Error 0×80004005: Unspecified error

I copied the file to a linux machine and tried to unzip there – for every file in the archive, the message was

skipping: FILE need PK compat. v6.3 (can do v4.6)

At that point I realized this is some advanced zipping that windows default extraction can’t handle. I fired up 7zip and had no problem extracting right away!"

So I downloaded 7zip and had no problem extracting the files with it.

  3. Read and thoroughly enjoyed the first two installments of Kate Locke's "Immortal Empire" series. Queen Victoria along with all the nobility of Europe became either vampires or werewolves during the Black Plague years and are still in power in the year 2013 as the preparations ramp up to celebrate the 175th year of her reign. Steam Punk, Urban Fantasy, Gaslight, Romance (sorry about that) with what I found to be a really interesting setting that I really wish someone had a nice wiki for, because I can totally picture running adventures in that world using the Monster Hunter International rule book.

  4. I'm new to the heroes game system and am using a book published back in 1989. Add to that' date=' I just finished the 4th book in the MHI series. Your template really looks good. But I have some questions. First, will I need to purchase the 6th edition core rule books and if so, where can I get them? My local game shop doesn't have them. Second, what is the point base for MHI characters - that is, are they heroic or superheroic? Thanks![/quote']

I have just finished reading through the PDF, and it is awesome!

If you haven't gotten it already through the Kickstarter project, I highly recommend you buy the MHI RPG as soon as it's available--probably the PDR will be for sale to everyone in late May when the physical books have shipped to the Kickstarter supporters--and you do not have to buy any other books to start using it.

The gun section is huge and covers gun smithing in some detail and the monsters are great too, including playable races. The organization descriptions are great too and the PUFF descriptions go well beyond just a list to describe not only what a monster hunter needs to know but a monster as well.

€‹I found hilarious the comments on how some monsters feel about the amount of the PUFF reward for them in comparison to other monsters.

  5. Re: What Fiction Book (other than Science Fiction or Fantasy) have you recently finis

I finished "Monster Hunter International" by Larry Correia several days ago.

This book started off great...tons of action combined with an "easy to read" writing style. I was happily flipping the pages until Mr. Correia committed an unpardonable sin...not once, but TWICE!

    ****SPOILER****

At one point, every main character died INCLUDING OWEN PITT the protagonist! But wait...he didn't really die! His spirit talked to the ancient artifact and told it to roll time back 5 minutes. POOF!!! Everyone is alive again and the monsters who slew them have magically disappeared. Deus FREAKING Ex Machina anyone?

If that was not bad enough, just when our hero is beaten to a pulp, blinded in one eye, and about to die, something similar happens at the very end of the book. Mr. D. E. Machina spoils my reading enjoyment for the second time in one book. Yikes.

    ****END OF SPOILER****

Mr. Correia obviously has the chops to be a competent writer and storyteller, but he needs to stop writing himself into corners. Monster Hunter International could have received 4 stars from me. Each time he triggered the D. E. M, it cost him a star in my rating. I have already (stupidly) purchased the second book in this series, but I will not be reading it. I prefer to spend my precious reading time on books written by authors that do not cheapen the experience in such an unsavory fashion.

All of this was foreshadowed. I thought it was obvious that Pitt could control time since it shows up before those two events, and is the reason the guy in the armor wants him dead. The 5 minute event starts breaking down the masqurade for the rest of the world.

    CES

I loved the MHI books, all of them, more than the Grimnoir books which are arguably better written. I shared the first book with all my friends, and none of them liked them like I did, so there's that. They are all eager to play in a game using the licensed Hero System books for it though as long as I run it. ;)
  6. Has anyone had a really successful experience doing mecha in Hero System? I tried the Hero Game's "Giant Robot Warriors" book way, way back in the day, and actually liked it. Doing them as vehicles hasn't worked well for me though.

  7. ....Also' date=' are there other genre books that would benefit in this question? There was/is a Champions 5th & 6th (and also a Champions Complete). But is there a 6th ed Dark Champions/Horror Hero/Western Hero/etc. that I didn't think of here? Thanks[/quote']

Well, the material from the 5e Ninja Hero genre book was incorporated into the 6e Martial Arts book. Though I don't believe it was expanded on significantly.
