  1. I think the best way to both condense and offer new material to appeal to both new and established players at the same time would be to include starter setting material (campaign setting, adventure w pre-made characters, spell lists, etc) with a truly slimmed down appendix-exiled crunchy pages with rules for how they were build in the back. Maybe pull heavily from Fantasy Hero Battlegrounds, and convert it all to 6th edition? Or Valdorian Age? That was golden!

  2. Re: Champions Complete. This is more like it!

If it's a choice between Champions 6e and Champions Complete with the caveat that you already own Hero System 6e v1&2 I would encourage purchasing Champions 6e. According to what others have posted' date=' Champions Complete does cut out some examples. I don't know if this affects the Champions portion of the book but based on the page count I don't see how it could not. In a perfect world I would suggest getting both. I already own HS6ev1&v2 as well as Champions6e, I just haven't gotten around to purchasing Champions Complete yet. It would make the ideal 'loaner' copy of the rules.[/quote']

Thanks; I went ahead and special ordered it at my FLGS which was fun because they said they didn't carry it, but have had people asking about it and might start. I love the fact that the bit and mortar program lets me get it at the local store and still get the PDF included. I wish Star Hero had the same deal.

  3. Re: Hero Central Down for??

I am having a lot of luck on roll20.net it is easy to use and the moderators are fast to answer questions.

The chat log is maintained indefinitely and the maps can be used live or on a play by post type opportunity. My players have checked the "board" without having to check with me. Combined with the potential for live play I would say it is 5 stars.

I like roll20 for games that gather people in real time, but I tried it for a play by post, and that's really not what it's for...Epic Words (http://www.epicwords.com) is working out pretty well as a play by post site for one game I was in on Hero Central that migrated there after Hero Central went down for the count.

  4. Re: Hero Central Down for??

Dan' date=' is there any way for a game owner / GM to be sent the data from their game(s)?[/quote']

For a more in depth discussion of why this isn't feasible, see the link to the last time Hero Central seemed down for the count:

    http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/93948-HEROCentral-Down-For-the-Count-(i-e-Server-Stability)?highlight=relational+database

Here's a pertinent quote from that thread:

The database is still intact' date=' but is a fully relational db structure that would require a moderate amount of effort to export in any meaningful format.[/quote']
  5. Re: Hero Central Down for??

That's likely the way it's going to stay for the foreseeable future' date=' unfortunately. The difference in the server load statistics is night and day with HC down. The attacks are still happening (sporadically), but are not having much of a measurable impact.[/quote']

Thanks Dan for keeping it up and going for almost ten years (I think, right?), and thank you for the updates!

  6. Re: Hero Central Down for??

It's likely going to be down for a while now -- the DDoS attacks had moved on from the forums to HC (since I had put some countermeasures in place on the forums to limit the impact). I'm currently looking into what areas of HC were being targeted, but it's likely going to take a fair amount of recoding of the site to enact decent countermeasures there...which is something that is going to need to wait for my time to free up.

On the plus side, folks on the forums should have seen a night-and-day improvement in performance and stability since yesterday.

Thanks for seeing and responding to this post, Dan and for updating us!

I do hope we see the rise of Hero Central again down the line.

In the interim, could we have a 'Hero Central' forum for refugees to connect and network?

I am thinking where would be most appropriate to direct people to connect with their GM's and players to continue the games, so to me an actual 'Hero Central' forum made more sense then sending everyone to Player Finders or some other forum. If a dedicated forum isn't necessary, which existing forum would you suggest for Hero Central game coordination?

  7. Re: Hero Central Down for??

    Getting a code 503

    Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

I hope it is nothing serious

New World Order was getting real good and now a cliff hanger

Still down for me; nice to hear! I am prepared to game on by e-mail if necessary, but I sure hope not!

  8. Re: Allen Thomas projects?

Absolutely! I would totally kick in for Valdorian Age 6e with a PDF and Hero Designer Pack! And more adventures and more books covering other regions in more detail...ah...to dream!

I got an answer from Steve in another thread saying, no, he won't do Valdorian Age stuff...if he won't, and Allen Thomas cannot be found, who will do it for me! Oh noes!

    http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/89712-TUALA-MORN-Interested-In-More-Stuff?p=2329906#post2329906

I don't blame you' date=' but since that wasn't my creation (well, aside from the very basic level of coming up with some names and other bits of data), expanding on it doesn't really interest me, and I wouldn't feel right about doing it even if I were interested.[/quote']
  9. Re: TUALA MORN -- Interested In More Stuff?

Lately I've been fiddling around with some more material for my Tuala Morn setting (which is of course detailed in the book of the same name ;) ). Specifically, I've been working on a detailed description of the kingdom of Acquitaine, which you can see a sliver of in the map on p. 275 of the book.

As you can probably guess from the name, Acquitaine is a sort of "Fantasy France," the same way that Tuala Morn itself is "Fantasy Celtic/Arthurian Ireland." The primary literary inspiration would be Clark Ashton Smith's stories set in the fictional French province of Averoigne, but there are certainly others... and of course French history itself has plenty of fascinating tidbits that provide good ideas for gaming.

So my question is: assuming I get all this finished up and laid out at some point, is this something you'd be interested in buying as a PDF for a few bucks? (I can't speak to a specific price yet because I'm not sure how big it will be, but at this point I can't imagine it would be more than $4.99 at the most.) It wouldn't include any art (other than a map of Acquitaine, of course), but would have information on the history of the kingdom, its various regions, the internal politics, about half a dozen character sheets for new monsters, a magic system adapted in some way from TM's, and other such stuff.

Secondary question: regardless of your feelings about Acquitaine, would you be interested in similar PDFs about other regions of the Northlands, such as:

    Logres ("Fantasy Arthurian England")

Kelmark and Vulkringland ("Fantasy Denmark and Scandinavia," i.e. Fantasy Vikings and suchlike)

    Karellia ("Fantasy Finland")

    Hrusland ("Fantasy Russia")

Turonia ("Fantasy Tribal Germany," including some parts that are "Fantasy Hungary" and "Fantasy Bulgaria")

    Essania ("Fantasy Spain")

Talianora ("Fantasy Italy/late Roman Empire," kinda-sorta)

    Bythainia ("Fantasy Byzantine Empire")

Some of those interest me more than others, so I'm not making any promises, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask what y'all might like to see. :)

The price would be right, so I'd put it on my list, but what I'd REALLY like would be a PDF covering some of the as yet unaddressed areas on the Valdorian Age map!

  10. Re: Allen Thomas projects?

I was just about to post a thread asking if Allen Thomas was going to revise the Valdorian Age for 6th. I'd so very much pledge a kickstarter for it!

Absolutely! I would totally kick in for Valdorian Age 6e with a PDF and Hero Designer Pack! And more adventures and more books covering other regions in more detail...ah...to dream!

  11. Re: M44 offhand @ 500 yards

The answer to the Question is (in 5thr terms)

Target chest size -3 (it is stationary and brace so 0 DCV)

Range 500m so a penality of -12 (luckly he was not at 500m and one cm as that would have been a -14, one needs to know how to stage).

    Target is at - 15

and no orther factors that I can estimate (wind, lighting ect).

Our shooter looks to be an average fit gentlemen.

so he has a good dex at 11 and that gives him a OCV of 3

He seems to have a familarity with the weapon so no minus there.

He dose not seem to be moving much so I would give him the brace maneuver for a +2 OCV and he took his time (set maneuver for a +1)

    Total so far 6 OCV

now it does not look like he is firing at a off hand position but if he is this is a minus 3.

Long battle rifle normally +1 to ocv and +1 to range mod

    total 5 OCV

If one assumes that he will hit 90% of the time he will need 12 skill levels, 14 or less to hit.

now class how can you buy those levels (used with most rifles at least) for the least amount of points?

    Lord Ghee

he appears confident that he will make the shot

Thanks! I'm loving the whole thread of conversations, but that was basically what I wondered about. :)

  12. Re: Allen Thomas projects?

Allen also did a chunk of the plotting and most of the adventure writing for Reality Storm' date=' if you're tracking down all his work for Hero. Impressively, he was also a skilled layout guy, and did several titles for us there to help Andy avoid the Dreaded Deadline Doom. dw[/quote']

Yeah, I've noticed that really good, useful maps (Keith Curtis?) seem to be prevalent in his books. I wish I could get all of his stuff on PDF, but it looks like his work predates a lot of the push to PDF.

  13. Re: Allen Thomas projects?

Allen isn't doing much writing that I'm aware of these days' date=' alas, though I agree he's a brilliant guy and personally think Demon is probably Hero's single most underrated product. dw[/quote']

Thanks for commenting, Darren! If you happen to chat with him, could you let him know that his name came up on the forums as a particularly appreciated and sought after creator of high quality Hero material?

I personally would contribute to a KickStarter project for probably anything he felt like doing... ;)

Actually, has Allen done anything at all for 6e?
