  1. Re: Xenomorphs from aliens thnx I will! This is my first attempt at Gming...and only my third time roleplaying. It should be an experience ^-^
  2. Re: Xenomorphs from aliens heh, I was just going to roll to see if it hits, then the normal hit location for where. If it hit's an area where you have an item then I'll just wing if it hits the item or you (based on size plot device etc), It it doesn't hit you then it hit's something else floor, wall, whatever. I think that'll make the power good enough for now. Thanks for all your help!
  3. Re: Designing reasonable aliens all the book references are great ideas, but honestly, all you need to make an alien race alien is a little ingenuity, and time. I agree with kieth on a lot of things. Personally, I think if yo want to make something a unique aline race you need to think about how it evolved, why it evloved the way it did. What kind of abilities would it have? Where did they come from, when would it use them? What kind of society does it come from, is there a monarch, dictator, etc? How do they reproduce? do they even reproduce? All these questions can lead to an interesting race. Maybe your race has a culteral taboo against the use of weapons due to a theology connecting them to an ancient leagend of armagedon. Maybe they are obsessed with bilogical advancement through competition. Mybe they have a limited intelligenc for somethings but are superb at others. The more questions you ask the more interesting the race becomes As far as designing an outer form, go with something that fits the answers of your questions. If something climbs a lot or is arboreal then think about possible adaptations for that. Maybe it uses tendrils, or hooked claws, perhapse it has suction cups, can it glide from tree to tree or must it jump? Maybe your creature can't jump, then it's form should at least hint to that. Discription and roleplaying are also very important. If you don't have a picture to go on (either drawn or expanded on) then unfortunatley it's your job as a GM to discribe your aliens to the best of your ability. And even if you do have a picture you still need to do this. No matter how great your concept if you don't make it act like an alien then it's not going to be what you're looking for.
  4. Re: Devious Idea that may work once....once... yes kyle, I love it
  5. Re: Devious Idea that may work once....once... heh, items like these are always fun. I'm also doing a kind of lay away, except I'm only requireing the person who aquired the item to pay one point per item siezed a session, up to the item's cost. But that's for all items. If you sell an item I'll let you transfer the points to another item, and if an item is destroyed then you loose them. We'll see if it works. Mainly I did this to keep the equipment based characters more in step with the non equipment based characters. That was a problem in a previous game I played in, especially with item creation rules. for x months of down time (5min in session) an equipment based character could make for himself a lightsaber! with sucess rolls, where well the PC dragon just kinda sat around. After a few months of down time the dragon was way behind in effectiveness since it didn't have another source of power creation other than waiting for xp. How does it feel to be a dragon and get your ass kicked by a professor?? This way (same as a few of the other ways above) a character has to think about wether or not he wants the shiney new toy, or he wants to improve his actual character in a lasting way and more permanent way. I do love the idea of the rogue armour...actually I have a few arcane items that have nasty side effects. One is this amulet for a litch. It drains strength while boosting intelligence and ego...it also slowly makes you look like a zombie. Yeah, she wasn't a litch, hehe just a poor shmoe who wanted the extra knowlege. It did slowly wear off though. in the one shot I did last week it was funny to see the character's faces when they went back to thier hold and instead of the litch they were supposed to bring back for their reward the body became a 20 year old girl! heh, see what happens when you play with toys?
  6. Re: Xenomorphs from aliens thnx, honestly I' not sure why I'm even bother to build any of my NPCs at all. Since, as you said, most of the things can be covered by rolepalying. Other than stats and a rough damage I can just make it work the way I want. Since the world is heavy roleplaying (it's a choose your own, no party kind of deal) that should work out ok. I agree with the stickiness, I just threw it in cause earlier I was on aim with roy (who's in the current game I play and will be in this one) and he suggested it and it made sense. I do want to keep it cumulative/gradual though. Because it gives the characters the chance to neutralize it before the damage gets too bad. Also, taking off the armour before the acid eats through so it doesn't hurt you is an effect I like. Here's a quick question though. What would you think about a table for what the blood hits within the cone, since it might not hit everything (ie. not really a form fittin projectile) it might hit your gun but not you. ...based on maybe the hit location table? with a couple extras
  7. Re: Xenomorphs from aliens hey, in case ayone was curious, it's my game he's asking for. This is the best I've come up with so far...it's so messy.... 36 Acidic Blood spray: HKA 1d6, piercing X4 +2, Continuous (+1), Damage Shield (+1/2), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1), Persistent (+1/2), inherent +1/4, Uncontrolled (see below; +1/2), Autofire (10 shots; +2), area of affect 1†+ 35†cone (splatter) +1, cumulative X18 + 2.75, Sticky, only when actually touching blood not the character affected +1/4 ;Always On (-1/2), Only For Dramatically appropriate moments (i.e Works Against objects or people Which Cause body Damage Or On Which Character's Blood Is Spilled, is not triggered by attacks that don’t cause character to bleed, triggered more by attacks that cause character to bleed more) (-1/2), No Conscious Control (number shots depends on body damage taken; -1), strength does not add to damage -1/2, neutralized by strong bases/does not affect basic things -1/4, limited range, only 3†cone -1/2, does not cause bleeding -1/2, does not effect xenomorphs or xenomorph exoskeleton material -1/2, -0 direction of cone based on damage trajectory [191 AP] Basically what I want is a conical cumulative acid spray caused by taking body damage. The more you shoot or cut it the more spray is activated. The direction of the spray is special effect. It's also supposed to be cumulative to simulate that it has to burn through armour rather than just bypass it. I dunno, this is only the 4th character I've made using herosystem and it's for NPCs for the same I'm running in the fall. Any ideas to help would be good. Otherwise I'm going to use this. Thnx for the help!
