  1. Re: Sci-Fantasy at the Super level.. Well, I've roughed out some bits of the world I'm going to pitch to the group... Campaign Title: Heroes of Evermoon Evermoon- a planet so named for the fact that at least one of its three moons are visible in the sky at any time. It has been the victim of a dimensional storm, yanked from its moorings in the normal universe, and is now trapped in an unknown location of the spacetime continuum. Even the most accomplished sages and scientists are not able to determine what exactly happened. Some whisper of Sigil involvement. The Sigil are a race of beings, purported to be the original sentient race of Evermoon. They are noted for their technology (referred to as Sigilware) that uses magic as power sources. For the most part, the Sigil were uninvolved in the affairs of other civilizations; but they oddly disappeared altogether after the dimensional storm- their fortresses abandoned, Siglware littering the landscape. From a GM standpoint, I'm having the Sigil act as the venue for "GM fiat" in some cases- space travel is theoretically possible, but the technology simply doesn't work for the inhabitants of Evermoon- all because the Sigil will it so. However, the Sigil (unknown to the PCs) are doing so in an attempt to save the inhabitants of Evermoon- the dimensional storm was of their making, so as to yank Evermoon from the path of some terrible threat to the region of space it originally inhabited. The problem is twofold now- 1) they have no idea how to get back, and 2) they have no idea what is 'out there' in their new location. As such, in order to fully commit to their studies as to how to correct the situation, they retreated to bases on the three moons. In the meantime, local space is not taking kindly to the presence of a new planet. Dimensional rifts begin to open across the world; one warlord takes over part of the planet, and a war erupts between the Kingdom (as yet unnamed) and the Bane Army. Thus enter the heroes, into the middle of a lost world caught in a war. Ideas? Thoughts? Critiques?
  2. Re: Favorite Superhero Lines Batman, in the call to vote Blue Superman back into the JLA... "Of course he's in. He's Superman. Batman out." Wolverine, in X-Men (movie): "What do you teach, Dr. Logan?" ".... art."
  3. Hey all- just curious to see if anybody's done a HERO game in the vein of He-Man, Blackstarr, etc? I'm toying with the idea of pitching such a game to my group once my MBA classes ease off a bit. Any pointers (aside from watching the cartoons in question) would be helpful.
  4. Re: The cranky thread I try to keep a positive spin on things, I really do. But today's news just really burns my cabbage. So, six months ago my old work group gets word it's going to be dissolved. I am (luckily) placed into a new group. Fine. For six months, I sat here with no real job title, and some ad hoc duties that they shluffed off on me due to workload. Fine. After a lot of hemming and hawing over the past two months (at which point I was moved yet again), I get word that I'll see an increase in paygrade- after 4 years of trying to get promoted. Fine. My issue is this- because of the merit (cost of living) increases I received each year at my old paygrade, I 'tripped' into the minimum bracket for my new paygrade. The result? The responsibilty of the new paygrade, with no payraise. I'm told that it was a job 'reclassification' (in light of the corporate reorganization), as opposed to a promotion. I have another word for it, of course. Am I wrong to be ticked off?
  5. Re: Jack-Jack Parr This is one of the reasons I loved the movie so much... the characters actually developed/dwindled over time. And Mr. Incredible, while tough, wasn't in the same league as the comics where the brick just shrugs off something like... oh, say, a plane dropping on them... just made them all seem more human.
  6. Re: TK build question Good ideas, thanks all!
  7. Just brainstorming various uses of powers.... came up with an application for TK. If somebody couldn't fly under their own TK power, but could fly by, say, TK-grabbing onto a flying character, how would you build that? Simply Flight, with a disad?
  8. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Why don't more animals have pubic hair?
  9. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat "You're changing your first name to Benedict? Why?" NT: A commercial for a sexual dysfuction product, done in the motif of a professional wrestler.
  10. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I'm quite certain that, were I to find buyers, that I could dump virtually half of my possessions on Ebay, be happy and fulfilled in a materialistic sense, and afford a downpayment on a house. Oh, and KOTOR 2: Sith Lords for Xbox rocks.
  11. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I suspect that, were a man to pee and sneeze at the same time, that his colon would shoot out his backside.
  12. Re: A Thread for Random Musings The bathroom is a great place to come up with onomatopoeia.
  13. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Can we make a quick stop? I need to talk to my parole officer.
  14. Re: The cranky thread So I'm home sick for the past couple of days, and I get a call from (of all people) the Marine SNOIC for IRR Marines in the region. Basically, they want me to do counter-intelligence (read: interrogation) work. Told them no, but this is what gets me. It's my understanding that CI folks have top secret clearances due to the info they can extract. As an armorer, I was to have a secret clearance due to some info I held. For SIX YEARS, my requests to get my clearance were ignored, and I was told that armorers don't need clearance. I finally found the order saying I did, and they made the motions of getting my paperwork in... but this was towards the last few months of my contract, and the impression I got was "Well, you're leaving anyways." So, six years and I get no clearance. Not even one month out of my reserve contract, and they're already telling me that I can get TS clearance? Funny how fast they can be with paperwork when they want something.
  15. Re: The cranky thread See, I've lived here all my life. But I've NEVER seen it like that in the 'not quite DC proper' areas. My problem isn't the 4wd's speeding past me... it's the ones tailing me, so when I stop in my little AWD Subaru, they slide ominously close to my rear bumper. Oh, and the fact that cross traffic will squeeze into virtually every conceivable spot to get to where they're going. Six lanes of traffic on a four lane road, anybody? It's like trying to sqeeze 10 pounds of crap into a 5 pound bag.
  16. Re: The cranky thread From what I know of Treb, I gotta wonder if he just misspoke. He doesn't seem the type to have that attitude. As it is, I'm paying back my own Dept. of Education student loan for college. Never missed a payment, either. Thief? Nope. Not if I'm paying interest. I wonder what one would say of me getting reimbursed for my master's from my employer, then moving on to greener pastures...
  17. Re: The cranky thread Day's not over yet. I'm sure there'll be more things to annoy you.
  18. Re: The cranky thread It took me nearly THREE HOURS to make a normally 20 minute commute home yesterday. I think IQs just drop sharply in cold weather. I mean, how stupid do you have to be to not realize that YOUR CAR IS NOT GOING TO MAKE IT PAST THE INTERSECTION!!!!!! I sat through 11 light changes at Rt. 7 and International/Gallows. Without moving. At all. By the 10th one, I was ready to get out of my car, and recruit a few other drivers to go and stand in front of the cross traffic that hadn't yet broken the white traffic line on their side, and just stand there, letting our lanes of traffic go.
  19. Re: The cranky thread Ahhhh, yes, I seem to remember now. I didn't realize Dulles TC had one out there. Then again, I've only been twice...
  20. Re: The cranky thread I remember Louie Anderson's bit on this: "Millions killed... children starving... Madonna has a headache..."
  21. Re: The cranky thread Which one? Tysons? Fair Oaks? I don't think we got a chance to meet at that small Game Parlor gathering...
  22. Re: The cranky thread The tsunami. The mudslide. The apartment fire in DC. The machete attack no more than 2 blocks away from me. And the helicopter crash off the Woodrow Wilson bridge (I know the mother of the girl who died in the crash- she's a very good friend of my mother-in-law and was at our wedding). I swear. Can we have JUST ONE DAY where death, doom and destruction don't get top billing?
  23. Re: Answers & Questions Q. So, what's it gonna be: shoulder rub by Mongor, or jello bath with Ashley Judd? A. Three paperclips, a bouncy ball, and 37 cents.
  24. Re: The cranky thread Tell me they didn't replace him BECAUSE he was getting Guard calls...
