  1. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. "I dare you to make fun of my pants!"
  2. Re: CHAR: Thor. (Marvel Style) Are you talking about the Thanos clones deal? You can lay the blame for that entirely at the feet of Jim Starlin. Reportedly, Starlin thought some portrayals of Thanos by other writers didn't fit his character, so he retconned many of them as clones. Thanos is Starlin's "child", so he gets to call the shots on him.
  3. Re: Wierdest powers... Grant Morrison's Marvel Boy (Noh-Varr) had some weird powers. He was genetically engineered with insect DNA, which gave him a bunch of powers like being "triple jointed," allowing extreme feats of contortion and the ability to survive what would otherwise be crushing forces. He can also scale up walls like Spider-Man. But the weirdest stuff he could do is when needed, he can digest any organic substance without adverse effects. As a result, he can eat rotting or poisonous food as well as non-food stuffs (e.g., cardboard, paper, etc.). He uses this ability to recover from wounds or extreme stress. His body fluids contain nanotechnology that invades the minds of those whose skin it touches. This causes hallucinations' and allows Noh-Varr a degree of mind-control. So if he spits on you, or gets some blood on you, he could take control of you. His thumb nail can grow into a deadly crystalline spike. He can insert this nail into an opponent and leave it to explode, killing both the target as well as causing extensive damage to the surrounding area. Crazy powers, but he's a cool character.
  4. Re: Superhero Images Very Cool! I like his chest emblem. Sort of a "new age" Infinity symbol.
  5. Re: Give me your ice power ideas! How about being able to create super-dense ice formations. Like steel-hard ice that takes a long time to melt. (Unless exposed to extreme heat) It could be used to create cages to entrap opponents, or create instant defensive barriers.
  6. Re: The Marvel Handbook online Oh man! Cool find, Dominique!
  7. Re: Build your own "New Avengers"! My first instinct was to pick a classic Avengers line-up. But instead I think I'll go "outside the box" a bit... I'll pick Cap, Iron Man and Hawkeye for the classics. Next I'll pick Phoenix. (Jean Grey) Strong telepathic and uber telekinetic skills. Pulsar. (Monica Rambeau) Energy powers and uber-speed. And last, I'll pick one more powerhouse. Miracleman.* *Yes, I know that's highly unlikely. But maybe one day if the rights issues are all cleared up, maybe Gaiman will give Marvel a crack at using the character in the 616 universe.
  8. Re: Alternative Superman Well the concept with a black or any non-white protagonist would have never come about in 1938. We saw a large influx of black, latino and asian superheroes come in during the 70's and 80's, but no real Superman archetypes. And many of the ones that did appear didn’t have a lot of staying power. As far as I'm aware, Icon was the first true black Superman archetype. For me as a bi-racial person what I liked about Icon and why I think it worked is because they managed to avoid the trap that many black superhero books fall into to. That trap is they make the focus of the book about the hero fighting mainly black villains, and only fighting crime or villainy in black-oriented areas and storylines dealing mainly with topical racial issues. Icon avoided that. While it never shied away from racial issues, it was never the one and only focus of the series. To me, it was (and is) the perfect way to handle that type of character. I would love to see a high-profile, super-powerful non-white (Maybe even a bi-racial guy) hero in Marvel or DC. It's too bad Marvel couldn't have done that with the Sentry.

  12. Re: Comics you loved...but apparently no one else did Charlemagne (Defiant) Great character, cool concept, fun book. Quantum and Woody (Valiant/Acclaim) Fun and hilarious book. Great writing by Christopher Priest. Hero Alliance (Innovation) A book ahead of it's time. It presented superheroes in a sophisticated, semi-realistic enviroment long before Kurt Busiek's Astro City.
  13. Re: Super Names Hi. I'm new here. I love this list. Very cool. I just wanted to contribute.. I saw that 'Supra' is on the list, but not many variants. Here are a few.. Supraman Suprawoman Suprakid Supramax Radiant (Someone who's powers have to do with light or energy) And a couple of group names. DEFEND (Department of Espionage For the Enforcement of National Defense) Superiority, The (I think this would be a good name to use if someone wanted to do a take-off of The Authority.)
