  1. awesome, but I think the rate of fire would be too high for ammo sustainability, and it might be really difficult to steer when firing. Now a sidecar with a pintle mounted gun... A standard mg would probably be more practical, though you would not need to worry about clearing jams in the same way... In "Why Johnny Can't speed" iirc there were motorcycle sidecars with recoilless rifles mounted. IMO it is a shame the Mauser RMK 30 and RMK 35 guns did not get built... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rheinmetall_RMK30 There were two 30mm versions and two 35mm versions. one of The 35mm versions exceeded the standard 35mm anti aircraft gun's performance. True, ammo would be heavy and bulky due to the excess powder required, and the backblast area would need to be controlled, but still!!!! edit, after looking at the video, he needs to adjust for elevation. As a kid, I remember my Uncle saying that every military vehicle should have a "coaxial" (he said it, though it would not be appropriate for most mounts) 20mm cannon...
  2. I have always said that there are obviously some who should NOT be in Law Enforcement... or society for that matter.
  3. I hunt, but have only an infinitesimal amount of sympathy for them. Just because they are human... that would be terrifying, truly experiencing "Nature red in tooth and claw...." I probably messed up the quote. One part of me chortles DArwin Awards..." and the better part sighs....
  4. Lets write in Teddy Roosevelt. Even if he is only a skeleton, he can't be worse...
  5. http://controversialtimes.com/issues/constitutional-rights/new-12-gauge-ammo-creates-holes-bigger-than-your-fist/?utm_source=LRD This might lack penetration...
  6. Some freak wrote a ballad about the poacher who murdered two game wardens when they caught him poaching. Iirc. I once heard a request for it ion the radio. I am surprised I did not have a stroke.
  7. I think I posted something about this some time ago, a modified saiga, firing both rifle and shotgun rounds, pretty potent, really. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016/09/09/smoothbore-saiga-366-366-tkm-shotgun-ammunition/ also a new kind or rear sight for a pistol. might be interesting, will keep an eye on it... http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016/09/09/not-sure-serious-new-mako-meprolight-ft-bullseye-micro-optic/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheFirearmBlog+%28The+Firearm+Blog%29
  8. I have long argued that the anti aircraft vehicles would be the most effective ones for dealing with supers... Few have the defenses to handle multiple 30-76mm shells, in particular the modern F-APDS ones...
  9. It seems the gangs are out of control, and are either protected by the population, or have terrified them. I heard a researcher today talking about a project to learn to translate (Chicago) gang member's social media posts to try to determine what are threats of violence. The NPR reporter asked if there was one young adult's story who he kept in mind as he worked on the project. He named a young woman who was murdered in iirc 2014. as he put it, she was a gang member said to "have up to 20 bodies associated with her before she was 17." He went on about how her social media posts demonstrated the pain of her life, and perhaps if someone had paid attention they could have intervened to ease her pain... Seemed to me that he was very careful in his phrasing to avoid just out and out saying that she was suspected of killing up to 20 people... And this was the person he took inspiration from? A person whose life is horrible and they snap, might kill someone. 20 times??? Sounds like a hardened gang member and murderer to me. I weep for a child, but not a murderous criminal. He seemed to not care about her crimes...
  10. Good luck with that, Hopefully you will not be like my wife and mom, who still have problems despite its removal! They are apparently in the minority, so your odds of avoiding problems are good, and the problems they have are not as bad as before the removal. Oh, My mom FINALLY got a diagnosis as to why she has had such horrible chronic abdominal pain and diarrhea. Krohns disease. .
  11. Lots about Otzi the Iceman. http://www.livescience.com/pt-28591?utm_source=OB&utm_medium=PPC&utm_campaign=20160706ptheadb Heart disease, ,Lyme disease, wow...
  12. There was a guy looking for Thylacoleo Carnifex in SA a decade or so ago, iirc. That, to me would be even more interesting. Bizarre paw structure, tooth structure, etc...
  13. according to Chief of Police statement I heard, mostly due to "repeat offenders", another statement said repeat firearm violators. Is that code speak for Gang bangers? Oh, I found out this week that Facebook censors Gangbangers, only showing the G.
  14. The few I read were relatively tame. interesting link to an article on sea level rise in the period, and it would be interesting to double check the short list of other buildings from the same era
  15. But they were ineffective in the long run, imo
  16. another "no good deed goes unpunished" I tried updating my income with the state health care exchange. Between the two of us idiots, we misunderstood each other. I specified that I wanted to update MY income. He asked me "Have YOU received unemployment this month?" It was not until it was submitted and My family was now eligible for medicaid that I realized we were not communicating clearly. "I" did not get any unemployment, but my wife still did. Now I need to see if I can salvage our current plans before they are supposed to end after tomorrow. As I suspected, though I intend to appeal, the utterly crappy health insurance offered by my employer will cost us our subsidy. The cost just to insure ME would not be too high, but when I add in the $300 a month I would be paying for my prescriptions, and my wife's coverage would cost me more than twice what mine does...). My son will still be on Medicaid, so yay us I guess... I cannot get out of work to make the calls I need to make, so I guess I will try to cram them into breaks and lunches. Oh, and I am supposed to be getting a colonoscopy on Friday. I said from the beginning of the ACA that they did not go far enough, that we should be able to learn from all the versions of single payer around the world to get one that actually WORKS. I did want to hear discussions about what to do about the decimated insurance industry, (before I even worked in it) but... I have come to the conclusion that many lawers and MBAs sell their souls at some point during their education. And nearly all lobbyists.
  17. The raise at work was GREAT. Unfortunately I am no forced to update information with the health care exchange. This would not be so bad, except they are now offering me health insurance that supposedly meets the minimum standards. It looks like it costs more than the silver plan I have from the marketplace, even WITHOUT subsidy. And it is not up to the standards of a Bronze level ACA plan. It is ALMOST an HSA compatible plan, so NO copays, everything except preventive care is out of pocket until you reach the $ 5000 Deductible,... Oh, but it has NO mental health coverage. The premium cost may be JUST under the level that would allow me to keep my subsidy, it is based on only the cost of ensuring MYSELF, totally ignoring my wife and son... I can't even get onto the website to verify my notes (called during my commute, hard to take good notes) because it says my password is bad... but though it says it emailed me reset instructions, I have not received them... well, back to my notes. I suspect the provider list is caca, but... I really fear the goal of the health insurance industry is to make sure that everyone who is not upper middle class or below the poverty line either dies or goes bankrupt and ends up a true wage slave.
  18. Yep, I just get drip coffee with cream, about half the price. SOmetimes I will treat myself to an Add shot. "Life is too short for weak coffee or cheap beer" I have yet to successfully dissolve a spoon or float a horseshoe, sadly.
  19. My employer as of today offered me the health insurance packages that make up a "qualified" plan, so will cost me my subsidy on the Healthcare exchange. I recently got a raise, (I am now a licensed health and life insurance sales agent- helluva nasty test) THis will cut my subsidy anyway, and may cost my son his Medicaid... The employer sponsored insurance is actually either a $5000 deductible HSA eligible plan-(legally this means NO copays, and includes co-insurance after the deductible is met) or a combination of two plans. Both are needed to achieve basically full coverage. One is a Crappy fixed benefit plan (one of three) mostly covering hospitalizations (as long as only 2 days a year) at $440/ month (the "best" version) for my family if it has any chance of actually paying a reasonable portion of those two days costs. (also 65 dollars per day for prescription coverage, 12 days max per year, so... ) The other one (choice of one of two) have an almost reasonable deductible and copay structure, but does not offer ANY inpatient medical care. or mental healthcare, so those are under the other plan. I am trained in reading health insurance, and I am still confused. What really makes me irate, however, is that I can't get any idea what the costs are for the other plans. It looks like if I go onto the web page and start the signup process, I might be signed up before I can see the cost. In addition, it would be BACK DATED to start August 1st, and I am insured otherwise this month, so how would THAT mess me up? I really am coming to the conclusion that the philosophy of the modern health insurance system is that if you are not really poor, so fully subsidized, or really rich, you are supposed to be dead or bankrupt- welcome to the new debt peonage.
  20. at a quick skim, he had some valid points.
  21. This may well be just a matter of semantics, but... I suppose. The problem is, I don't know if I wold really call her a a career Politician. A political Spouse for Many years, but she only ran for office on her own what, 14 years ago?? Political, yes, but not an elected official or (though I could easily not be remembering all of her activities, as I live 2000 miles from Arkansas) a political appointee. Though I dislike her, I do not fear her the way I fear her opponent.
  22. If it were possible, I would vote for the decayed remains of Teddy Roosevelt before... He could not get into any trouble. If I could resurrect him...
  23. I suspect that if Trump wins the next presidential election will see the Republicans destroyed in Congress.
