  1. Re: [Pet Project] Persona HERO I can't decide whether I want to play P3 more, or play a Persona HERO game. Tangentially, it's worth noting that only the main character in P3 has access to the Velvet Room, as I've heard. Everyone else is fixed to increasing their initial Persona.
  2. Re: Combat Question: The "counter" It's a strike with "Follow Block", like Crush is "Follow Grab". So, when I successfully execute a block, I can use the manuver on my next phase. add on the Hand Attack dice and it hits the campaign limits for DCs.
  3. Re: Combat Question: The "counter" I'm actually playing a rough translation of a fighting game character in a Teen Champions Game (the character is Rock Howard, for those curious), who uses counters and reversals. The way the GM and I set it up is with the Counterstrike manuver, and a bunch of extra HA dice linked to the manuver to symbolize the strength of the reversal. Could someone with higher speed "Break the counter?" Absolutely. Is it a bit easier than Trigger? Yeah. Also, someone beat me to the Grappling Block example. Though I'm not sure about Block with the "Opponent Falls" element. That may still work.
  4. Re: Weapon Designs -- opinions wanted I feel like the Railgun should be AoE Non-selective- It still took some skill to aim at a far-off target, for example. Other than that, great stuff.
  5. Re: Easily forgotten What about a Shape Shift to Sight Group, Improved Group (Any human), No Conscious Control? Shape Shift is all perception, anyway. Buy it down to 0 End and you can justify the constant shuffle of how people keep forgetting their face. Might also need IPE, just so it isn't noticable, but still cheaper than Invis. "Yeah officer, she had green eyes." "You dolt, she had blue eyes!" "You sure? Man... I could have sworn.."
  6. Re: Holding 'em Back Uncontrollable and Continuous, I think this makes the best example. If you just go by 0/negative STR descriptions (What you're forced to roll for if you've been drained/supressed to 0 STR) get opposed by this sort of thing. Needs a small bit of handwave, but isn't too bad.
  7. Re: Hero Boot as a Headquarters I'm really surprised no one's started Statting a Kuribo's Shoe-wielding Superheroic character by this point.
  8. Re: Sorry I am tied up now. In agreement with the majority of this thread. Just surprised no one mentioned Haymakering the poor sap in the head. Heck, if they're THAT helpless...
  9. Re: Grab and Shoot manuver? Huh. That sure works pretty well. It's certainly easier than my manuver. I never noticed it before. *chucks his kludge out the window*
  10. Re: Grab and Shoot manuver? The only reason I didn't do something like that this is because I felt an outright failure condition was consistent and pretty detering- you could have at least squeezed for free damage, but now you're left just grabbing. Likewise, Jimmy the Speedy Midget runs up and jogs the arm of Bob the Shotgun-holding Brick, and all of a suddent Bob has a chance of shooting at his teammate's back? It's consistent with a wrestle for a weapon, no doubt, and I suppose Casual Strength on the grab itself provides a certain sanity cutout. I was also thinking about about the number of rolls involved in one maneuver.
  11. How many times in cinema have you seen a hero, superheroic or otherwise, grab a villains arm and then fire their gun at a second target? Moreover, how many times have people been fighting over a gun or a knife until someone gets the upper hand?I was pondering a mechanic for some kind of maneuver specifically for this, and just figured I'd throw it out to HEROdom in general. In my mind, the key points were 1) It's a very difficult maneuver to use, much less accurately, and 2) It's a more difficult action against stronger opponents When a grab is successfully made on one or more limbs that hold a universal focus that the grabber can activate, instead of opting to Throw or Squeeze, can opt to attempt to use the focus still in the target's hand. The two make opposed STR rolls (As if breaking out of a grab) If the grabber succeeds, he can target the focus's effects on a target of his choice, at -3 OCV. If the target is the person holding the focus, they get an additional 2d6 on their STR roll, to reflect the difficulty of turning the gun all the way around. Because of the awkward posture, Martial Arts and most CSLs can't be used with this maneuver. The only allowed CSLs are 5 point HtH levels if the focus is HtH as well, 8 point CSLs, Overall levels, and PSL bought specifically toward this maneuver. I kind of wanted to include some mechanism where the OCV got worse as the strength disparity increased, but I figured making one extra roll was already enough. Comments? Feedback? Does something better already exist?
  12. If a character has a power that triggers automatically (Say, an Aid to Body/Stun when either drops below 0) but that they can't activate at all- indeed, that they might not even be aware of, are they justified in the full -2 of NCC? The lesser -1 NCC? Or no limitation at all?
  13. I was wondering in regards to pushing Characteristics other than STR, if it can even be done, aside for STR. The line on 5ER 427 says very vaguely "STR or Power", and it also says you can't push things that don't require END. Does this mean you can't, say, push your EGO to steel yourself for a particularly crucial breakout roll? I'm assuming no, but I was just hoping for a clarification.
  14. Re: Kazei 5: The Soundtrack As much as I can't stand the series, some of the background music from Noir would probably fit in great here. Salva Nos, maybe.
  15. Re: Weapon/Item summoning (with a lower case S) Okay, makes sense. I like the idea of a partial buyoff of the focus limitation toward IAF- If it say, costs a half-phase action to concentrate and get their weapon back after being Disarmed/Takeaway'd/Weapon Bound, but it can be taken just fine if they're unconscious or what have you, it's partway between the two limitations. And also, given that in superheroic campaigns, you're supposed to kind of return to a neutral state between sessions (Lose equipment you picked up on the fly unless you pay points to keep it, and rebuild/reobtain foci) then it makes perfect sense that the SFX of Bob Swordguy getting his blades back from that volcano is an elaborate ritual that can only be done with sufficient downtime. Thanks, folks.
  16. Two "How To" sort of questions I'll throw out to the wonderful folks around here. One, how would the ability to summon a focus to you be built(in your opinion)? I.E. calling a blade back to your hand. I'm not talking about chucking Mjolnir and getting it back- that's just an EB of sorts with a unique SFX. I mean, for example, your Legendary Blade of Awesome gets knocked out of your hand or thrown into a volcano or to the bottom of the ocean. I was thinking something like Summon for points equal to the active points of the power that the focus assists, but I really have no idea. Secondly, is Transform "Nothing->Desired Object" the only way of creating objects out of thin air? The first person to suggest "EDM to a universe where the thing is there" gets hit with a brick.
  17. I know a valid construction is 6d6 EB (Real 30, Active 30) +3d6 EB, Increased endurance, x2 (-1/2) (Real 10, Active 15) Where the character can shoot the 6d6 version as normal, but the 9d6 version is limited by that chunk costing more END. Now, is it reasonable to have, say.... Multiform (200 Character Points in the most expensive form) (x4 Number Of Forms) (50 Active, 50 Real) +Multiform(+70 Character Points in the most expensive form), 1 Charge(-2)(14 Active, 5 Real) (Assuming 270 wasn't breaking the upper bounds of the character's points, for argument's sake) To simulate a person with a certain set of forms, plus an enchanced 270 point form with a significant limitation on its use? Also, my sincerest Interweb apologies for the double post- the Edit button seems to have vanished for me, for some reason.
  18. Re: [Pet Project] Persona HERO Absolutely amazing topic. I'm just familiar enough with Persona to know that this is really solid so far. Go 350 point Nate Nanjo!
  19. Board newbie here, trying to construct a power I just haven't been able to build right. The idea is to make a "wall kick" power- the ability to basically make jumps in consecutive phases, A la the wall jumps seen in various fighting games and such. It's simulating the dexterity of the character to basically gain sufficient footing off an unstable or vertical surface long enough to take another jump or whatever. I was trying to simulate it with a limited form of clinging, with Costs END and RSR: Acrobatics- but it didn't seem to get the part about the power only working from phase to phase, and that you have to keep moving. I was thinking some sort of kludge involving continuing charges, but that doesn't seem to be it either. Suggestions for limitations to get this to work?
