  2. Re: Enter Fluffy (or "Aw, can't we keep 'em?")

While I (and my characters) would echo the sentiments of those who say "Fluffy" should be handled cautiously' date=' I'm a little troubled by the thought of heroes who would cut to the quick and just kill the creature without finding out for sure if it's a threat or not. For all they know, yamamaru's Puffer Fish theory might not be too far off the mark. All it really did in this situation was [i']scare off some predators that were about to eat it[/i]. It has a sense of self-preservation the same as any other living thing, that's hardly enough in and of itself to make it a dangerous monster.

Until a GM gets ahold of the thing.

  3. Re: Your PCs might be Underpowered if...

No' date=' I am going to have to rule this one out. That is a bad@ss ringtone.[/quote']

I edited out the note that it only applied to yourself and came from any cell phone you heard.

If your character wears a couch because that is what he wears as a part of his workout clothes.

  4. Re: Archaeologist

If you can find a copy of "Gods Graves and Scholars" subtitled the story of Archaeology by C.W. Ceram. He covers the major greats and how they got there like nobody elses buisiness.

Like how cracking the Rosetta Stone wasn't an overnight thing we make it sound like these days. It took a special man years to find then prove his solution was the best (Champollion).

Most of the early Scholars had huge skill sets, alot of them had high Pre (for dealing with locals proerly) as well as the skills to go with that Pre. Survival Skills,

Money would not be off base, nor would Luck (many of the realy greats had that in Scads!)

Here is a partial list of one of my characters skil sets (it's not done yet so have mercy)

    6 Wealth

    3 Scholar

    3 Jack of All Trades

    3 Combat Driving

    5 +1 DCV Vs. All

  5. Re: Your PCs might be Underpowered if...

You are afraid of picking up a yoga ball because it will violate the campaign max.

If you run screaming for the hills from the 'viciuos monster' that is the little girls kitten stuck in a tree.

a munchkin in your game is one that has an 8- Analyze Shrubbery roll.

Your character is really proud of his just bought "TRS-80 Powers".

The party healer needs a god call to heal one point of Stun.

you need to push your strength to put on a t-shirt and jeans.

You need defensive Pre to face down emoticons/smilies.

The Mechanon of your campaign is a calculator watch.

You end up taking stun from watching the bad guys get hurt in Home Alone.

You can't take a shower because you will 'bee Drownded'.

A ringtone on your cell phone counts as a 7d6 flash attack on it's lowest volume setting.

Action figures have more Presence, Stun and Strength than you do.

Trash Can lids require weapon familiariies.

  6. Re: Evaluation on an ability: Bounce Back

Unless there is some sort sub rule I am not aware of buy more recovery with a limitation (like, only works when below 0 Stun) so that you automatically get to take advantage of the recovery from being stunned as well as boost your stun and End back up.

  7. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Since someone PM'ed me about the unobtainium parasol...

In a fairly large battle, my Phoenix Hawk got caught in the open by a Battlemaster. I potshotted him with the large laser, and cringed waiting for the return fire. One of my friends says, "Wait a minute!" He mimes pulling out a miniature umbrella (like you'd find in a mixed drink :drink:), opening it up, and handing it to me. "Here, you'll need this!" With nothing to loose, I mime taking it and holding it out against the oncoming fire.

    Which all misses! :nonp:

Sure, the Battlemaster got me next turn, but the legend of the Unobtainium Parasol lives on...

The other night we were discussing what enables Navy Seals and Rangers to deflect bullets... Rubbing their trident or their patch... Yeah Battlemechs it does seem to be Unobtanium Parasols...

  8. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Stick had his problems' date=' yes. His passive sonar couldn't see through a closed window, he couldn't read a dial instrument, he couldn't see a flashing red light, which made flying the team jet a little harrowing...[/quote']

Yeah Superman replacment character in my homebrew campaign read part of the Ultimate book of Evil and clawed his own eyes out. He has enough power to get them fixed, but hasn't chosen to.

the Players have evil detecting sunglasses and offered to let the NPC Blind guy look though them, his response was:

"What good are these going to do me? Im Blind."

  9. Re: Super useless

    Just to be Ludicrous.....

I built these as a counter to the Clairvoyance issue on bases.

Windows: This power allows someone to see what is on the other side of the window for some vision based powers. Clarsentience(20), only to allow Some sight based senses (-1/4), only to show what is on the other side of the enclosed system (-1/2) No range (-1/2). 20 active points, 9 real.

GM thinks: 'this is over building in the Hero System rules, use common sense handwavium powers instead."

  10. Re: Power Game. Give it a try.

Base with flight, (possibly some life support) and 1064 1d6 RKA, 5x penetrating, megascale on range.

1064 Computers built with all abilities needed to fire guns but like 1 speed, 10 Dex etc.... Skill levels for OCV.

you could fit this on a 100 point character....

and yeah it is a cable clone....

  11. Re: What do you call "Four Color"?

Oh' date=' okay, that I have heard about. That both Superman and Batman did kill and use lethal force is they felt the situation warranted it early in their career. IIRC, Batman carried a gun at one point.[/quote']

Batman, so the story goes killed one criminal and then they got a letter from a housewife asking them to not do that anymore.

Housewives more dangerous than you know, capable of changing your character before it even gets fully developed.

  12. Re: What do you call "Four Color"?

In the first few years of the Golden Age superheroes were not cliched, they were an original concept. While individual elements may have been done before, to combine those elements was something new. After all, all new ideas are merely never before seen combinations of old ones.

These elements had never been combined together in the same package before:

    Superhuman powers

    Colourful tight-fitting costumes

Codenames (pretty original in-and-of themselves this one)

    Secret IDs

    Crimefighting

Kid sidekicks (Also stand-alone original I think. Heroes in adventure fiction seem to always have adult sidekicks prior to this)

The Spirit Had a kid Sidekick before WWII, and No, the Spirit isn't (and by the authors own indications and desires) a Superhero more of a pulp detective with only a few 'super' touches added to make the publisher happy (and a mask so thin you can see the Encephalic folds of his eyes!). Potentially arguable that he is a superhero however the whole thing is very very borderline at best.

  13. Re: What powers frustrate u & disrupt your campaigns?

One of my players once attempted to create "the mad orbiter" based on the same concept :

    10" Teleport

    + Usable as attack

    + magascale +1/2 (1" = 10 km)

yeah the "cable clone" I got one in my campaign, but he has 10" teleport, and the without error rules. So he falls on his targets, I have a few plans though. now i have to institute the falling takes time rules.
