  1. Re: Fastest man alive

    OK, here's a question:

Who's faster: Superman or The Flash?

Basically every time they ever had a race in the comic books, they get deterred by a villain. So, what is your opinion and why?

Note: This is based on a running competition. Since flying would be unfair (not having to avoid obstacles and all)

Supes has conceded to Flash (Wally) in the Born to Run Series (in the Flash Natch!) .

Wally (and many other Speedsters) has access to the speed dimension.

    3. it's unfair to have a brick encroach too much on a speedsters schitck.

    goes to the Flash.

  2. Re: Whoops! Did I really allow that power?

I just allowed a necromantic mage hero (??? - yah, that alone is going to be trouble within Epic City's hero team Epic Alliance) to have a spell wherein he summons a spirit in the form of the Grim Reaper (complete with scythe) that appears and slices up his opponents. The cuts are phantasms, so no blood or guts... But the attack is bought as a Transformation: Working Limb to Non-Working Limb...

It hasn't bit me in the arse yet... but I feel like I might loose its use soon!

HAve one, used it against the players. they weren't impressed.

  3. Re: Help with an Ineffective Ice Mage...

in most versions of DND i played Dex is your second highest stat unless your rolls/class dictate otherwise period end of sentence. Up to a bonus of 4 AC? Nothing to sneer at any day of the week. A cavalier with no magic could have a -4 AC in 1st Ed. That is choice right there.

  4. Re: She's no Salt & Pepper!

A character I wrote up but never played:

    Cinnamon!

She's a mutant with psionic powers, all of which are Visible. One of the three Sense Groups affected is Small/Taste; when she uses her powers, the scent of cinnamon is detectable in the area. (Yes, she's an homage to Rose from the old Champions/Guardians.) Her writeup is here, for any who may be interested.

Quote: "Yeah, I'm normally shy and pretty quiet. But make one more 'Spice Girls' crack, and you'll have migraines for a week."

Mini quibble: I'd change Small/Taste sense group to Smell/Taste.

  5. Re: Help with an Ineffective Ice Mage...

The point however is to remove a level of "must have high dex to hit" and "I is as gud wit swords as fighter" and as "dexteroious as thief".

in addition a fighter using signature weaponry would by using those same skill levels would then feel different than a different fighter using different weaponry if built correctly.

Thus a reliance on Skill levels instead of base stats is one way to reduce stat inflation/duplication and other problems.

If you like classes however you could just build a skill enhancer to reduce the package cost of a class to better make a distinction between fighter and mage.

  6. Re: Help with an Ineffective Ice Mage...

+x 3 point Skill levels with Multipower nicely removes the need for high dex at about the same cost and makes the caster mucho specialised.

Besides if the Gm is nice you can convert those csls to effect increasers (via options 3 or 4 under skill levels) when you have a good reason to expect a decent chance of hitting.

Picking up any weapon after that mod is something the caster should look at with distaste after that point.

And 14 dex is a good breakpoint too.

  7. Re: The Emergence Of Superhumans

How wars are fought would be quite different in this alternate timeline.

Since superhumans would be the biological equivalent of fast-deploying mobile artillery pieces, an earlier poster pointed out that armies would likely be much smaller, and opposing countries would use superhumans to decide their battles. Wars may have similar winners and losers to those that came about in our timeline, but the collateral damage may not be as severe.

Something like the First World War might have been fought, but since millions of dead in the trenches in our timeline wouldn't have happened in this one, the conditions that formed the Second World War were probably suppressed.

The Civil War in America, I'm inclined to think came out a stalemate leading to a divided nation. Partly this is because I think it would give more potential plotlines to have the US divided up a bit. This would have had a major effect on expansion to the west as well.

Actually I had 1 time travelling super show up at gettysburg and the two following battles. he didn't change anything because A. the north won those three battles B. the Northern general STILL didn't followup properly like he should have. Those same three battles in our timeline that General was berated by Lincon not for winning, but for not taking advantage of it.

  8. Re: Your PCs might be Underpowered if...

    Yeah, season ending episode.

don't recall the quote off hand though.

Zander has been inconsistant from the get go. he probably has 12-20 paranormal kills by season 7 end but...

Zander vs Harmony ended in a hair pulling match before both parties called it off....

which should tell you plenty about both of their combat abilities.

  9. Re: The Emergence Of Superhumans

It really depends on what kind of world you're going to run. The hardest thing for people in my world to accept is that Man Created God in His Own Image.

God tere could be 'more' powerful/active than the one here so to speak....:o

  10. Re: Hero System Good Idea/Bad Idea...

This of course assumes GURPS doesn't make your head explode.

Actually, they only got through the Mage core before White Wolf pulled the plug on the GURPS conversions. (Why is something between the two companies; probably only those directly involved truly know).

One of the settings that GURPS never got to was Wraith: the Oblivion, one of the great disasters of RPG history. You played a restless ghost who spends most of his time feeling awful, with limited interaction with the real world. It's sort of like an RPG about being in Hell or Limbo. It proved very unpopular and went almost completely unplayed.

Errr try Playing "Changeling-the Incomprehensible Magic System" not only are you less powerful and interesting than mages but more 'ehhh who cares'.

  11. Re: Mottos for use in games

The mottos used by various (mainly military) organizations can be very useful in giving flavor to Dark Champions games. One of my favorites is

"The difficult anytime. The impossible by appointment only."

used by The US Navy's Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman. What are some of your favorite mottos, and have you used them in games?

Heh, if they added in 'Naval' between Special and Amphibious they would have SNARC for their intitals...
