  1. Hoody Hoo!!!!! I got Quoted Positively!!!!!!

    Heh, just trying ta help.

    81 artifacts are cool,

make each one you create in advance individual and leave about half undefined.

hmm okies make the Dwarfs primarily long term/planned seige(Trebuchet, Battering Rams, and Walls, fortess construction) and Thiefs short term/off the cuff (shoring up walls, sapping, dirty tricks assassinations, man traps etc..) seige type.

So that when the battle come around you want the Dwarfs to have been there a millenia before but you want the theifs manning the walls :)

  2. aonther option to flesh out your characters would be to swipe th GURPS Quirks (a maximum of five near pointless disadvantages only worth 1 point apiece) examples would be things like 'hates the Color Pink", "Won't sing", "makes faces in combat" etc... for inconsequential flavoring.

Secondly occasionally take some of the "less desirous" disadvantages, Age, Berzerk, accidental change (even if it is from a 50+50 to a 0+25 character that is still a big disadvantage)

a Dwarf with a dependancy to alcohol is a classic but one susceptible would be a riot.

a DNPC squire or spear carrier would be acceptible, but what about DNPC Desmene? (I.E. land that you are responsible to)

    How about some bad reputations?

and a few watched (mostly friendly people that are interfereing)

    How about these?

Rep: Dirty, Greedy or Slovenly, or Sol lim: Dirty or Unseemly

    Sol Lim:Contractual Obligation or Merchant

Psy Lims: Quests for Knowlege or Inscrutible or Bookworm.

or Dark Secret or Phisical Lim: lost digits from frostbite or Rep:Arcane Researcher

5, Sol Lim: Seen as Crazy or Traveling Tinkerer or Balmy

5, Distinctive Features: Strange/Odd equipment or Dirty(from experiements blowing up in face).

You are one of the people pushing the edges in concepts and designs, considered Crazy or a crack pot by others you do however make interesting subject matter wherever you go whether you succeed or fail....

5, Reputation: Annoying Artist or Performs wonderfully or Expensive,

10, Psy Lim (Minor, Infrequent): Overconfident or Overcritical or Dedicated to Art or Manic depressive or Manical or Depressive

An Artist by any other name would be just as brillant. Hardened by a lifetime spent in the pursuit of art, you understand the importance of being friendly with everyone while not presenting your back (or, more importantly, your Patons back) to anyone.

10, Sol lim: Brainless Fighter or Too Dangerous to Trust.

    Rivalry, Professional: Other Mountaineers.

10, Psy Lim or Sol Lim: Obligation to Former Mentor,

10, Psy Lim: Bored Easily, Unfulfilled, Easily Distracted or Dark Secret.

10, Reputation: Dilleante or Annoying or Distinctive Features: Stylish or Sol Lim: Social Engagements or Considered Annoying.

Useless social butterfly prettyboy fop. What more needs to be said?

10, Psy Lim: Distracted(by the weather)

10, Reputation: Gambler or Sol Lim: Famous or In Debt

10, Psy Lim: Gambling Addict or Dark Secret or Despises Cheaters.

Whether an addict or a person merely seeking to pass the intolerable hours away in a life filled with leisure this is a person dedicated to the pursuit of gambling and the pursuit of all things chancy.

    _____________________________________________________

    Common Fighter

1, WF: one class of Common meleee weapons (Blades, Polearms ect..) or one class of Common missile weapons (Bows, Javelins etc...)

    1, Teamwork 8-

    1, KS: Basic Sanitation 8-

    1, KS: Opposition 8-

    1, KS: Own Millitary 8-

1, KS: Curses(as in how to get yelled at)

    Typical Disadvantages:

    10, DF:Millitary Uniform, Commoner.

10, Psy Lim: Subject to Orders, Freebooter, or Common Thug.

This is an average ordinary fighter, poorly trained and essentially a conscript who barely knows which end of his weapon to hold.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

or my favorite: Dark Secret points that you are not sure you know where they came from........

  3. I think part of the problem with even an annual FH issue is that there aren't typically enough submissions for a single issue to be put together...

so SUBMIT TO THE WILL OF DIGITAL HER.........

    erm sorry

    Keep those submisssions coming!!!!!

  4. Ermmmmm...

Okies so thieves and Clerics have been teaming up for millenia...

someone somewhere _must_ have gotten lucky enought to be successfull, the odds are too great that _alot_ of the thiefes and clerics especially at sending out most of the population at one time or another someone would have gotten through. Just how many artifacts are there?

Hmmm howabout making the "thiefs" mechanical experts too. not only little traps but big traps also, and seige gear, clocks, and other automatia(zombie killing machines!!!!!). now the Thiefs have a reason to stay at home too. The primary thought is protection/defense, after all if you send 100% of your population out on basically suicide missions you are soon going to have little population left..

How about a sort of Noblise Oblige/Inheritance law wherein a pesant only needs a few (like 1-5) zombie headsto prove he's a Man/Woman(trial of manhood sort of thing) and it scales up from there wherein in order to prove oneself worthy of being a member of the nobility a person must kill x number of zombies and if you want a total lock accquiring an artifact is _the_ ultimate prize.

Thusly it keeps the status quo has mobility and you don't have a high suicide rate of your birth and support members....

  5. you suggestion above is probably a decent way to do it. I would still bring it up directly to the would be performer beforehand, JIC an idea pop's into their head and they have a chance to scriblle it down. the best time to do this is to suggest it before a campaign climax event and point out that a bard would just love to write _that_ down and mention the upcoming event....

Other options would be to suggest Weird Al Yankovitch as a source of inspiration....

    ill think of more later.

  6. Hmmm a few suggestions from the past

    Chat Noir (V&V published character)

martial artist with Luck powers (black Cat in french)

of course you could do a Robo-Cat (many a cartoon)

for most of the open slots.

How about Kitten as a Sidekick?

of course you caould have Kitty Pride as the backer.....

uhhm had one for the mentalist but lost it.

  7. Well call the bard competiotion a Bardic competition, after all that is what the SCAer's do!

Other things you could have are Riddling contests, Chess, Drinking contests and other games.

Essentially every skill a person has can be translated into a competition.

For example the Tracking competition : trackers have three minutes to identify 10 different sets of tracks drawn on a waxboard.

Others typically would be dancing, juggling, etc...

And keep in mind that typically a festival goer would attend non competitions also. And if there is a cute guy who does well at the sports competitions he may just find himself 'kidnapped" off to a dance by several attractive ladies....

I'm working on a Three legged race

wherein you either use the lower of the two team members teamwork skill to have a shot at using full movement, or a kind of chart of Str and Dex roll possibilities.

My campaign has a midsummer festival around a crown competition for the fastest Racing Ship, from there, the whole country has gone mad and engages in every kind of sport or competition possible that they can think of. They also bet on it too.....

Log rolling definately need stats for log rolling. just the sort of crasy stunt people would do at that fair.

  8. Actually i had a similar idea except that the character's best friend turned to evil, and he became "The Lieutenant" in order to oppose his friend "Burn Master". Burn master got damaged in a Superhero battle at a gaming convention causing his change in beliefs.

The Lieutenant modified the ideas his friend and he were working on when BM got hit by the Superheroes. and so armed only with his miniature force field generator, his trusty Mark 2 Phaser, and the ideals of the Federation he wages a battle against his friend.

  9. I was in a friends 75+75+XP FH campaign and we had several good sessions with a collection of competitions at an annual fair.

    They incuded Strength feats

Hanging from a quadrangle of poles over a pool of water

    Stone hurling

    Tug of War

    Races

a long distance foot race and a short distance sprinting races.

as well as a Horse race through town and over a wide variety of obstacles

    Professional competitions

    A hunting Competition

tests of lore, history, and knowledge

a test of healing the day after the martial competitions

Since HERO is not just about laying the smackdown on Orcs and other nastys what sort of competitions would you come up with to challenge the players outside of combat?

And do you have mechanics for typical Fair or Olympic style competitions?

  10. Ahhh but we _are_ talking about the infinite possibilities that are HERO!

so being dammed and/or undead can be related or relevant or whatever.

besides ill challenge you on The Mummy. Can you conclusively _prove_ that the Mummy was necromantially modified and not dammed?

and if you go with V:TM all of the Vampires (the undead) are cursed by god therefore being Undead AND Dammed.

  11. Actually Tony made a little kit for Ben Grimm when he had lost his powers for a while while they were going up against...

    erm....

    you know this one right?

The kit had all the powers, but none of the Armor so they were OAF :Repulsor blasts (more like guns than anything else.......)

big surprise to see ol'Ben packing a suitcase to La......

    erm La La land...

  12. not rally a stupid question, after all undead could be created/animated by infernal/dammed souls.

the real question is: how does the Gm see things?

talk to the Gm before you limit your powers. perhaps a limit of "Only against supernatural evil "would be a better choice than undead especially when creating a D&D style "turn nastys" priest.

  13. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh well at least igot to read Designer Desmenes before Steve did....

    :)

  14. well i kinda like a limit on the SR Cyberware making it cheaper, probably something on the order of -1/2 all the time (doubled) for a -1.

I would likely split it up into Cyberpsycosis: 5 point Psy Lim disad (cumulative with all other Cyberware) and -2 to Magic Skill rolls(not offsetable by PSL's!), both are permament(for the "equivalent" of +1 cost multiplier) unless bought off with points after the Cyberware is removed. but that is a bit closer to the spirit of the game

  15. typically "Offensive only" presence is -1/2 (I forget what the real name is for the Pre Disad).

Defense gives a -1, I guess people expect Pre attacks to be less frequent.....
