  1. Re: [Online Game]New 'Marvel: Next Generation' game I'm still interested in this one, but having trouble...focusing, really. 600 points is going straight to my head, but even more, the "pick a Marvel villain, or two. No, really!" is giving me way too many options for me to be quick about anything. I'll probably have at least a rough idea by the end of the day, though, especially now that the group's starting to kind of take shape.
  2. Re: [Online Game]New 'Marvel: Next Generation' game I'm an old-school Marvelophile myself, so this sounds like it could be a good time. That said... How many spots are still open, how welcome would a relative Champions noob be (I've played in a few on-line games at Hero Central, and don't seem to have screwed up too bad yet, but I'm no expert or old hand), and where/how does a game like this get played? Oh, and what points total would we be looking at (I can't seem to find that anywhere) for creation?
  3. Re: If You Had To Play a Marvel Character… For a classic four-color game, it's hard to beat Captain America. Rogers has a very "scaleable" power set (it can be street level, or pretty darned impressive) and contacts, and he's just...the classic hero guy. He's the "go-to good guy," in a lot of ways -- all the traits you admire in someone, and (unless there's been some serious retcons) not many of the traits you don't admire (unlike Batman, who is a seriously flawed human being, he just manages to harness it into a positive direction). If I was feeling a bit more classically super powered, it'd be hard to beat Captain Britain, though. I always liked the guy, he had a classic power set, the super-hero lantern jaw, a hot blonde girlfriend, you name it. Who doesn't like to be a flying brick, really? You've got the power, the speed, the durability -- good stuff, all around. In a similar vein, Thor would be a blast to play -- except for how he talks. Call me a heretic, I know, but I just can't stand it. Ultimates Thor isn't half as bad on that front (and he's not clean shaven, which is a bonus when you're talking about Norse Gods), at least. Plenty of awesome powers, what could've been a cool backstory/origin/whatever, but that cheesy Shakespearean nonsense (coming from rough and tumble Norse deities) just always ruined it for me. Great power set, though!
  4. Re: So you want to be...a sexy vigilante.. So, uhh, how old's this daughter of yours?
  5. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Allright, 4 levels to go. I'm just glad I'm not going blind -- I kept clicking and clicking through costume options, going "There's got to be a cape in here somewhere, right?" Good to know I wasn't just missing it. I feel a little better.

    New Clix

Re: New Clix Maybe my hex map isn't quite 1", then -- I'd swear I tried to use Games Workshop (IG Stormtroopers as a SWAT team) bases once before, and they were just plain too big.

    New Clix

Re: New Clix Ah, that's too bad. It would've felt cool to kick the Justice League's butt with "my" super-team, or something. Ah well, I still might grab a bunch of clix figures. I just fired up my first ever tabletop Champions campaign over the weekend (how they suckered me into running it, I'm still not sure), and I'm trying to look for some ideas for the whole map/table/combat thing. Does anyone know of any "default" wargame bases that are fairly small? I've got a hex map that I'm itching to use, but my both Warmachine and Warhammer (and/or 40) bases are too big for it. I was thinking of hacking off some Heroclix at the base and remounting them on something that'd fit the hex map a little better, but...hrm...no ideas. Anyways, sorry if I dragged this one off topic. It just never occured to me to "mod up" Heroflix figures like this, until just now. You've got my wheels spinning as I try to come up with a way to take advantage of this idea for the game.

    New Clix

Re: New Clix Nice work! I've never gotten into Clix games, but I play a lot of other wargames (where you have to assemble and paint your own mini's), so it's always cool to see the converting and painting of someone else. In HeroClix, are you allowed to do this sort of thing? And still play with them? I mean, say I modded up some Superman clicky-base thingy, to use on a hex map or something for a tabletop Champions game. Could I then show up with him, alternate paint scheme and all, at HeroClix Night (or whatever) at my local game store, and he'd be "legal" to play with (if I explained it was Superman)?
  9. Re: Alternative Superman Big fat +1. It always bothers me (even today) when Marvel and DC try real hard to be all "edgy" or "modern" by having a black/asian/gay/hispanic character, but then they just beat you over the freakin' head with it, rubbing your nose in it, mentioning it over and over again, having bad guys mention it, other good guys mention it, having the character think about it all the time, blah blah blah. This really hit me while I was rereading some older Authority comics the other day. They're gay, we get it, allright? You don't have to make that the central (and only) defining characteristic of the character -- just like Batman doesn't obsess about being white or Superman whinge on and on about being straight all the time. Someone's race, religion, or sexuality is just one aspect of who they are, comic-book-writer-people! *shakes his fist* Give it a rest, would'ja?
  10. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Is it just me, or is there no way to get a cape in COV? Am I missing something horribly obvious, or is that costume option missing?
  11. Re: How not to fire your weapon in Dark Champions... The problem with underestimated yahoos like that is that they're still pointing guns at you, and their bullets'll fly just as fast as anyone else's.
  12. Re: CHAR: Iron Man Erm...why not? I'm not disagreeing with you (and apparently the moderators didn't disagree, either) -- but I'm just confused. I found that file from a link here on the boards, and figured it was kosher (since no one said anything on the other thread, one dedicated wholly to that web site). I figured it was some sort of free download or public domain or something. Sorry if it was against forum rules or something, I just thought it might come in handy for Enforcer and his Iron Man project. I didn't mean to be busting some rule or anything.
  13. Hi all, A few friends, my wife, and I, are trying to get a tabletop Champions game started up. I presently own the Hero 5th Edition Big Fat Rulebook, along with Dark Champions, and Dark Champions: The Animated Series (found these two used, on sale, and snatched 'em up). One of my buddies picked up Sidekick (to help with character creation, and give us an extra "basic rulebook" to pass around the table for fights and rules questions and stuff). I'm gonna guess the answer is "the man Champions book, stupid," but what should we pick up next? We're looking for setting information (some nice Metropolis-style city), lots of NPCS (we've got some low-power ones in DC:TAS, but they'll likely be overpowered by the PCs before too long), and all that sort of stuff. I don't think we'll be needing Ultimate Brick or Ultimate Martial Artist, etc (no one's yet decided on character concents)... so what's what leave? What are some must-haves? What order must we have 'em in? And what about each one is so cool? Help me prioritize my shopping, please.

    New Avengers

Re: New Avengers Now, I'm gonna be straight, here. I've never been an Alpha Flight fan. I'm not gonna pretend to be one, all of a sudden. I was aware of them due to some X-Men crossovers, I enjoyed what I read of them, but I certainly never went out of my way to buy news ones. I don't have any sort of vested interest in the Alpha Flight legacy, or whatever. And, no, I'm not from Canada. But that was crap. Just, plain and simple. Crap. That's no way to treat a super-team, even if it's a "second string" group like Alpha Flight's always been (IE, they're no X Men, Avengers, JLA, whatever). Regardless of their overall popularity and/or importance to the Marvel pocketbook, there are people, somewhere, that collected that series monthly, followed and enjoyed the characters, etc, etc. And Marvel just spit in their collective faces, without even letting them see their heroes put up a fight. Crap.
  16. Re: Sick of Wolverine That might've been all it was. Like I said, I was just sort of flipping through it and killing time, so it might have just been a House of M instead of a really crappy "real" comic (I wasn't too impressed, either way). Thanks for setting my mind at ease.
  17. Re: Sick of Wolverine Actually, I'm pretty sure she's back. Or, at least, some straight-haired blond teenager with a silver arm, access to Limbo, stepping disc powers, etc, etc, has been hanging out at Xavier's School, in some of their latest New Mutants stuff. I can't promise they called her Illyana (I was just flipping through the comic at my local shop), but...uhh...yeah. Kinda feels that way. Just off the top of my head, and not counting alternate realities or (of course) supervillians, I've got Collossus, Illyana (several times now), Jean Grey (who's still counting?), Superman, Donna Troy (six or eight times by now, I'm sure) Jason Todd, Bucky, Hawkeye, and however many dozens (or hundreds) of others. Or, of course, counting the times all the X-Men "died" or all the JLA were "surely killed," or whatever. Those are just the major deaths, off the top of my head, that DC or Marvel made a big deal about, each and every time. I wish the head honchos of all the various titles (and both major companies)would realize just how much it belittles the value of heroism and bravery, to have death be so impermanent.
