  1. Welcome to the forum! Not sure if you saw the invite for the Teen Champions game in this forum, but the GM was especially looking for new players (this is including myself). Since we are just in the planning phase and haven't started, you might want to check it out!
  2. I might be interested if my schedule works out, but like you are looking at, although I am familiar to the Hero System, I have never really played it and I am only a basic understanding of the rules. Thanks! Shadow7
  3. I would be interested in playing, I have all the books for Dark Champions and actually prefer the street level over the regular Superhero campaign. However, I have never played Champions and don't know all the rules and not sure how much people might want to put up with someone trying to learn on the ropes. I have played other RPGs over the years, including other superhero genres, so the role playing I can do, it's just the game mechanics and the rules I'm a little unsure of. I have several street level hero concepts that I would love to convert to a Dark Champions vigilante. What is the day you are looking to play on? Shadow7
  4. The Icons Forum is not really a forum for Icons, just an all-purpose forum. That's why I posted here.
  5. Hi all, Although I have almost all the books for Champions, at least the ones that are necessary to play, I have never completely understood all the nuances of playing the game. So, sadly, I have never played the game. Every time I see forums to join up, I have always avoided them since I didn't know what I was doing, and no one wants to be the guy in the game, where everybody needs to explain everything to them! However, I figured the best place might be to understand the game is to start by developing the character I had in mind. Can someone help me do this? Here is the character concept that I had in mind: My character is named Flex, he has the powers of stretching his limbs and his body, he travels by forming into a ball and bouncing, and he can harden his fists in order to create a solid punch with his attack. He is a Black African American in his early 40's, still in good shape for his age. He is not married, but does have a love interest in a news reporter who he has come across as Flex, whose name is Bianca Guerra. His secret identity is Dr. Odell Bagley, he is the Chief Medical Examiner-Coroner for the Police Department. He gained his powers through an attempt on his life, in which after providing key evidence in a cold case, the crime organization tried to kill him by making it look like an accident. While in his exam room during an autopsy, his lab doors were sealed and deadly gas was flooded into the room. Knowing that he only had one chance to live, he injected himself with embalming agent, and passed out. When he came to, he discovered that he now had super-stretch powers. Calling himself Flex, he began to start his war on crime while he continued to aid the police in his role as Medical Examiner-Coroner. Since his role requires it, he does have medical expertise, he can perform surgery, provide medical aid. He is a bit of a investigator and has a trivia type mind when it comes to knowledge. Before he had his powers, he already had quick hands, that could perform card tricks, pick pockets, etc. Thanks for any help that you can give! P.S. As a follow-up to this post, I would love to start a topic on naming your most favorite (interesting) PC superhero!
  6. Hi all, I've posted on this forum a few times before. I have always wanted to participate in a superhero rpg group. However, with the recent health problems with the virus, and the need for social distancing, I would be interested in starting a play by post game. For those who are not familiar with this method, this is where the GM posts a scenario scene, and the players "react" to it claiming responsibility for the words and actions of their PCs only, with the GM still controlling for the most part the NPCs. Since it is not as fluid as a regular table top interaction, the players can create some of the story along with the GM, as opposed to simply just listening, but the GM still runs the story. In the past when I have tried this, I participated with a GM who had 6 individual players that were playing their own stories. I believe his goal was to intertwine the PCs together, but the game broke down before we got that far, so the PCs never even got to meet each other. I believe part of the problem was that he had players from all over the world, with some posting immediately, and others taking several days. The GM also took long periods of time to post, which made the whole thing fall through. I would love to try this method of play, however, I am not familiar with the Champions system very well. I am more comfortable with the ICONS Assembled Edition, which may actually be easier to play for a play by post game. Is anyone interested? Although, I would rather play, I know that usually someone doesn't post an idea without the expectation that they will probably have to run the game. I would be willing to run the game if there is some interest, however, I think in order to keep it successful, I may need to limit the players to only three or four at the most using the ICONS Assembled Edition. The beauty of that game system is that, heroes can be created on a random chart, fairly quickly, and the game is supposed to be very good for one shot adventures, especially. If players have a particular hero concept in mind or even a current character that they would like to modify for the game, that would be fine as well! I am looking to make this a street level campaign, although characters can have powers, but they would more resemble Batman (with gadgets) or Spider-man, rather than Superman. I am open to suggestions as well, since I am still developing the idea. I would welcome any input or interest. Thanks, Shadow7
  7. Maybe just the jetpack, flash defense on the googles, leather jacket, and the ray gun that does one function. Breakfall, combat luck, detective skills and fighting skills that reflect his military training....
  8. Duke Bushido, I know that the Rocket Man character was also called Commando Cody, which was later used in one of the Star Wars movies in honor of him. That's miniature is impressive. Assault, not sure what the point total is yet, but it will be very low level. I like your character build. He was actually a former military army officer, who wanted to be a pilot but couldn't get into the ranks. He is discharged now. That's why he would have some detective and fighting skills, and at least some skills of being a pilot.
  9. Duke, That's actually a good idea, since this is all experimental and since it's golden age pretty antique especially by today's standards!
  10. Ninja-Bear, Thanks, I really like the name of Air Warden as well. It fits the era of the Golden Age and also a specific name that I was hoping to achieve while still trying to be original! I'm not familiar with the True Blue complication, but I'm assuming it's what it sounds like in staying true to your convictions?
  11. That's awesome, thanks for that character build! If he has a commitment towards doing good, and fighting evil does that work as a complication? What about a psychological complex of standing up for the little guy against the bully? Overall this build is probably very close to what I want him to be. Once again thanks for that!
  12. Thanks guys for the input and help! As I said, I've never been very good at putting together a hero from scratch without some type of template to look off of. The list of golden heroes is very good, since the GM wants to play adventures much in a style of the All-Star Squadron and the Invaders. The skills list is also very helpful. We are not sure if it's 125 pts and 75 pts complications, or 100 pts and 100 pts complications, but you are right in stating that he is an above average guy with experimental equipment that makes him "super." His jetpack won't be stolen, however he doesn't work for the government. He is not the inventor of the jetpack, but works with the inventor on making the world a better place. His real identity will be secret as much as any golden hero was, by putting some googles on to cover his eyes and a leather flying helmet to cover his head and protect him. He probably wears some type of flight suit like the Rocketeer or Captain Midnight, so the combat luck is probably the way I go over having armor. He certainly is a standard golden hero in that he upholds good at all costs and fights evil.
  13. Hi all, I'm not really that good at creating character builds, but I was wondering if someone could help me create a template for a Rocketeer type hero for a Golden Age Campaign? He's a former army soldier, who has an experimental rocket pack and "ray" gun, along with googles that possibly provide not only protection against flash, but maybe aid for seeing in the night (blacklight googles). He would have detective skills in addition to being a soldier. His name is Air Warden. He is not really an inventor but more of a daredevil/ hot shot pilot. Thanks for any help that you might be able to provide.
  14. Sovereign City is a city of heroes. It's a city that rivals the large cities like Los Angeles or New York, being very advanced and overcrowded. It is near the ocean. It's defended by heroes of all kinds, who are welcomed by the authorities as long as they maintain some respect of the law. Stuart Caito is the D.A. of Sovereign City. He is following in his father's footsteps but has become frustrated with the faults in the justice system. Deciding he has had enough of it, he soon crafts a crime-fighter identity in order to combat against the rise of crime and evil in the city. Drawing from his legal background, he cloaks himself in long flowing gowns, wearing a mask to cover his face. He becomes the Judicator. He is careful to operate in the law as much as possible, so that the bad guys he arrests don't get out of jail because of legal loop holes. He is armed with a gun that is filled with rubber bullets (a Mercy gun) and equipped with gadgets which he calls his tools of justice. He has a superior knowledge of the law, and he is trained to handle himself in a fight. He is fearless, and determined in his quest, but he knows he can't do it alone. He calls on others to join him in the HeroWatch, who will answer his call?
  15. Here's an idea perhaps that's been done before in some people's campaigns. An alliance of heroes is formed in order for their city to be protected. It's not a formal team but rather an unofficial pledge by the heroes to create the HeroWatch. Heroes come, heroes go depending on their availability, sometimes depending upon the need. Players play street level heroes when needed for the adventure, more four colored heroes when the adventure requires that. However, the campaign continues focusing on the city and the heroes that participate in the HeroWatch. I'm sure this is not a new idea but one that I recently thought of with people coming and people going in the RPG group as well, and how some adventures are better suited for different types of characters. For this forum, just for fun if we were to come up with a city that needed to be defended, who would be some of the heroes that would join the HeroWatch? For this forum please offer your character idea. The character doesn't have to be fully crafted into any type of RPG system, but more rather just sharing a character concept. Let's see what kind of interesting characters we can come up with together. Thanks for participating!
  16. The Wildcards series is actually being made into a tv series, so I would think that most of them will be reprinted if they haven't already.
  17. I read this in another forum about reading the latest Pulps, and it got me thinking about Superhero fiction. Anyone read any good or interesting original superhero fiction prose novels? Not really talking about comic books in general, but the superhero novels especially the ones that feature original characters and not just the DC or Marvel heroes in novel form. For myself I have found that the Vanguard Series by Percival Constantine is very interesting. It reads very much like a role playing campaign, even breaking the stories into several episodes for each book. The books are even numbered by season, with five of them being in the series. I have also found the Ghost series by George Mann to be very unique. It is a cross between dieselpunk and superhero fiction. Finally if I were mention a comic book series it would have to be Kurt Busiek's Astro City. The story reads like a novel, with so many different heroes (and villains) highlighted. It even portrays a lot of the adventures from the everyman's perspective. Good stuff! Anyone have anything they would like to recommend or share? Thanks! Shadow7
  18. Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to put together a RPG campaign strictly using fan fiction writing? Perhaps where all of the participants were to play a character, and one person would start off the campaign describing something. Then each of the participants would describe what they would do in the scene, and then maybe one of them would add to the next scene and so on, so that each would have a hand in contributing to the scenes of the campaign. Each of the characters would write their own involvement and maybe even interact with the other characters based on what they describe themselves as doing. Has that been done before? I know a lot of people play online, with various means of play, is that one of them? Just curious, how that would work and if it has ever been played before. Would rules be needed for this style of game, or could the participants agree to make it fun without taking advantage this? Or if rules were needed maybe using something like the LARP rules since they have been simplified or do the regular rules work in this manner? Thanks! Shadow7
  19. Thanks for that! I especially love finding the free adventures, and adding them to my campaign! Shadow7
  20. Just curious along the same lines, when you guys played with only two, was it purely a solo adventure campaign or did you add GMPC heroes to aid the player? Shadow7
  21. Really good names and ideas with so many of these! A few I had actually thought up of, some were really new such as Java....I really liked the Spider idea, that really fits the type of support that I am looking for, not someone with immense wealth but someone who operates out of her basement while still maintaining a job during the day to pay her bills..... Thanks for the ideas! Not sure which one I am going to use yet..... Shadow 7
  22. Hi all, I have always enjoyed some of the creative ideas that I have received from all of you in designing my campaign. I am looking for your help once again. I am looking at adding a Felicity Smoak or Oracle type character to the campaign to serve as a computer tech NPC to assist the PCs on their adventures. Like Felicity or Oracle, the character would strictly be at her computer, and may not even have any direct contact with the PCs at all except through their computer link. I am looking for a creative name that might represent both a cyberpunk and technology theme. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks! Shadow7
  23. Very good idea, indeed! A true guardian angel power! What kind of power might that be in game terms? Thanks!
