  1. Re: Question on Adjustment Powers

Drain Strength 1d6, Ranged (+½) [15 Active Points]; OAF (-1) [real cost: 8 points] plus Drain Dexterity 1d6, Ranged (+½) [15 Active Points]; OAF (-1), Linked to Drain (-½) [real cost: 6 points] plus Drain Speed 1d6, Ranged (+½) [15 Active Points]; OAF (-1), Linked to Drain (-½) [real cost: 6 points]. Total Costs: 45 Active, 20 Real.
    vs.
Drain Strength, Dexterity and Speed 2d6, Affects Three Characteristics Simultaneously (+1), Ranged (+½) [50 Active Points]; OAF (-1). Total Cost: 50 Active, 25 Real.
Correct me if I'm wrong, please, but isn't the second one twice as effective as the first, i.e., it drains 2d6 from all three characteristics, and not just 1d6?
  2. Re: OCV Penalty on Powers

You can use the side effect limitation to do this. Side Effect: -2 OCV' date=' Always Occurs, Minor.[/quote']

For most powers (anything 20 AP and up, with no other limitations applied), giving this even a -1/4 value will save more points than the 4 points needed for a counter-acting +2 OCV with that specific power. I suspect it should be a -0 limitation in most cases.

Or, maybe you can ask your GM for a 4-point 'negative adder'.

  3. Re: Anime Champions?

I certainly am not going to buy Dragon Half just to do a Mink character sheet. Same for most everything else you mention.
I think he meant Mink from Cyber Idol Mink by Megumi Tachikawa. Of course' date=' you wouldn't buy [i']Mink[/i] just to do a character sheet any more than you would buy Dragon Half just to do a character sheet.

I'm not quite sure what PhantomGM6101 is looking for. If he's looking to design characters, then anime characters aren't really any more difficult to design than any other characters. (Heck, I even did one.)

If you're looking for inspiration for things like play style and character style, to get you in the right "mood" for anime gaming, then frankly I'd suggest looking at BESM (since a new edition is coming out, you might be able to pick up an old one for cheap). Not for the game, necessarily[1], but for the anime-play-style advice. I seem to remember that it had some good sections on that, and gaming advice can always be ported to another game.

[1] Not that it's a bad game or anything.

  4. Re: Anime Champions?

I suspect you'll see a flood of responses shortly (or, maybe shortly once Monday comes around). To start you off with some Hero Games published stuff:

    • "Anime and the Hero System" is an article in Digital Hero #8
    • Ninja Hero covers some anime and video game topics
    • Kazei 5 (PDF from 4th edition, but still available in the company store) is cyberpunk with anime flavoring
    • Robot Warriors and Robot Gladiators (4th edition supplements; one or both may have PDF versions in the store) help with some types of anime
    • The Ultimate Vehicle (5th edition) also has some stuff regarding anime-type robots and vehicles

  5. Re: Teen Champion Cover!

Well, I wasn't thinking about buying the book before, but the cover looks fun enough that I just might buy it now. So, it's a good cover, even if it wasn't "work-intensive" (or what have you).

  6. Re: Favortie NINJA HERO NPC?

Meow Yen is not my fault. [...] Anyway' date=' as Meow is a video game character, and I've seen names like "Geese Howard" and "Kushnood Butt" in [u']real[/u] games, I figure I did okay.
    Not to mention "Sol Badguy."

There is a character named "Lady Meow (or Myao) of the Iron Cat Fist" in the anime Carried by the Wind: Tsukikage Ran, so the name didn't seem that strange to me.

  7. Re: Build your own "New Avengers"!

If I needed to bring in a new Avenger' date=' I'd resurrect [i']Charcoal, the Burning Man[/i], make him adult, and toss him in. Killing Charlie was such a waste.
Killed? He wasn't killed; he was just shattered in to a bajillion pieces. He'll be back when some writer wants him to be.
  8. Re: Thought Experiment 1: Azumanga Champions

Judging from one sequence, Tomo needs a Mimic Pool to gain other people's abilities. (Of course, if your abilities are actually weaknesses ...)

Chiyo should have a hefty PRE bonus, only for 'cuteness' PRE attacks. And Sasaki a Vulnerability to said attacks.

  9. Re: Is missile deflection needed?

You mean 100% Damage Reduction Requires a Skill Roll? Nah' date=' I hate that power. Ditch it.[/quote']Hmm. I've meant to do this for a while; maybe now's the time.

Missile Deflection: Desolidification (affected by area attacks and other non-deflectable attacks); 0 END (+1/2) (60 Active Points); Cannot Pass Through Solid Objects (-1/2), Instant (-1/2), Extra Time (Half Phase, -1/4), RSR (OCV vs. OCV, no Active Point penalty, -0) (27 Real Points) plus Missile Deflection Power Skill (3 Real Points). Total Cost: 30 Real Points.

It's not perfect, but it's reasonably close, I think. Am I forgetting any modifiers?

I also think that many instances of Missile Deflection should have a penalty for the DCs of the incoming attack, but then I also think many instances of Block should have a penalty for the DCs of the incoming attack.

  10. Re: Normal Senses with Discriminatory and Analyze

Really' date=' I'd argue that the basic sense are discriminatory (and I would not differentiate as the book does from the "crude" discriminatory) and just make people pay for Analyze.[/quote']After thinking about it, this is where I ended up, too. And I would say that most of the above should be handled with Knowledge Skills and high PER rolls. I would save Analyze for being able to tell apart things other people physically can't. (You can see more colors, and more detail, with sight -- but not microscopic or telescopic vision; you can distinguish sound frequencies that others can't; you can pick up scents others can't -- or would that be smell's version of 'night vision'?; etc. You may not know what they mean without the right Knowledge Skill.)
  11. Re: Die Faust

    [is this a double-post?]

According to my German dictionary, "Faust" means "fist" (hence, the gauntlet?), and is indeed feminine. When used as the subject of a sentence, it would be "die Faust."

How/if it would change if made into a superhero name, I do not know.

  12. Re: 5er Invisibility pwoblem.

Technically, I suppose, you don't emit (internally generate) light, you just reflect it. So, if you're invisible, you fail to reflect the light. On the other hand, when you speak, you do actually emit sound. So, the invisibility doesn't hide it; you'd need darkness.

I think that's the theory, anyway. If you're carrying a flashlight while invisible, is the beam of light invisible?

Or, on the gestures/incantations bit, gestures are about being able to move, not being able to be seen. Incantations are (I suppose) about being able to be heard, not being able to physically move to make words. I guess.

  13. Re: Computer Programming

Except that Computer Operation shouldn't let you do the interesting things that fictional heroes get to do, like hack into secure systems. That would require Computer Programming (or, possibly Systems Operation).

I'd assume that 'everyday' use of the computer would be part of your standard PS, and that using a user-friendly program wouldn't cost you any more points than using a microwave or air conditioning.
