  1. I am converting a monster from Starfinder and want you guys opinions on how to build the following in 5th edition.

    Paralzing scent

A vracinea constantly exudes a sweet odor to a radius of 15 feet. Any living creature with a sense of smell that enters or starts its turn in this
area of effect must succeed at a DC 13 Fortitude save or be paralyzed for 1 round. Once a creature successfully saves against this effect, it is immune to the same
vracinea’s paralyzing scent for 24 hours. This is an inhaled poison effect.

  2. I have been running now for just over 2 years a science fiction campaign originally fully based on the Star Wars universe using Fantasy Flights Edge of the Empire game. This morphed into a hybrid Star Wars/Starfinder lore game as i got a bit burned out on the Empire vs rebels stories and wanted to branch out and use the amazing Starfinder lore and setting.

So the players went into Hyperspace and came out somewhere strange? It was in the Pact World System of Starfinder but still with elements of the Star Wars universe somewhat twisted. This helped me reboot the campaign into whatever i wanted as the players do not know the Starfinder lore at all and freed me from Star Wars canon do reshape and use whatever elements I wanted and jettison others if not interesting.

So for example Jabba the Hutt still exists in this new dimension but he currently is trying to establish his crime family on Absalom Station after a messy relocation.

I have just recently also converted the game from Edge of the Empire over to the Hero System as after so much play time the system was showing a lot of cracks and the space combat system never worked how I wanted it to. This thread is going to be me sharing bit and pieces of the campaign as I flesh it out and it continues.

  3. Another probably stupid question, when I print to PDF from Hero Designer it automatically takes me to the PDF and it seems fine. But when I search for the PDF on my computer to mail it to players, I cannot see it or even the Directory/Folder  it was in that I can plainly see when im in Hero Designer?

Whats going on? is it something basic I am not doing? why does it disappear?

  4. I find peoples adaption of their own superhero universes an intriguing and fascinating subject. Whats your universe like? who are the movers and shakers? is more a DC like place or Marvel? What elements of the official champions universe do you use? or have you eliminated or changed? do you use other games characters such as Mutants & Masterminds or Villains and Vigilantes or Heroes Unlimited? or is it a universe of characters you have completely created from whole cloth of your own?

Mine is a very heavy homage based combo of DC/Marvel with the serial numbers just barely scrapped off but using game characters whenever I can.

    What about you?

Then what I recommend you do is write up a backpack (or use an existing write up), for general use.

Take that write up and tweak it slightly to replace the OIF with perhaps Restrainable, any other small tweaks that seem appropriate (if any), and use that for the "Ysoki" racial ability.

Any examples of a backpack do you know I can have a look at?

Unless you are making other characters pay points for a mechanical build out for backpacks and belt pouches and so forth, there's no reason to make a "Ysoki" character pay points for a variant SFX of a backpack.

Is this a heroic game where equipment costs money not points?

No, it's a sci-fi superhero game, so everyone is paying points for equipment.

  7. Another building query! I am doing some Starfinder conversions as package deals and am currently doing the Ysoki. They have the following ability,

CHEEK POUCHES - Ysoki can store up to 1 cubic foot of items, weighing up to 1 bulk in total in their cheek pouches. and they can transfer a single object between hand and cheek as a swift action. A Ysoki can disgorge the entire contents of his pouch onto the ground in his square as a move action that does not provide an attack of opportunity.

I am totally perplexed as to how to build this ability. Anyone want to take a crack?

  8. Hey guys, another question from my players as I start to convert over from using Fantasy Flight's Star Wars system to Hero. One of the fun things in that system is the critical hit rules for each weapon making them more or less deadly. I know Hero has rules for misfires and problems with guns if you roll a 17-18 depending if you have been taking care of your weapon, but I am asking has anyone ever put in critical hits or a system of effects or bonuses if a player rolls particularly low? the system GURPS uses comes to mind.

Does anyone use any house rules for this or do you let the variable damage roll for each hit do the talking for you in the system. Let me be clear I am not saying I want to put crit rules into the hero system, just asking what other people think and do about this?

  10. Hey guys, In 5th Edition, I a starting to build some basic Star Wars blasters and guns and I wanted to simulate somehow that a small holdout pistol is hard to notice if hidden on a person carrying it?

Should this just be a small special effect of small guns or can I build it somehow into the mechanics of the gun.

Thoughts would be great thank you.

  11. Brick was one of those villains from Vipers Nest for 2nd edition, we used again and again, this was back when i was 11-13 years old! There was something about his build that made him a very tough opponent and I have many memories of him forcing superheroes back due to knockback across that classic street scene map that was in the 2nd edition boxed set back in the day.

    Good times lol.

  12. Hi guys,

just wanted to say hi, as I have just created a new account here.

I originally played Champions back in 2nd edition and played all the way through until 5th. Although I have not touched it in probably at least a good ten years, so I’m very rusty!

i have gm’d and played many other games as well and currently run a 2 year fog Star Wars game that is kind of creaking at the seams as the players are so powerful now. It’s my opinion the game does not handle heroes of experience particularly well and it’s getting harder to challenge them by the session!

Anyway I’m thinking of converting over to hero as it handles different power levels so well. I own 6th but not really read it as was hugely put off by the decoupling I’d figured characteristics which I always loved. How easy is it to mix and match aspects of the different editions?

    Anyway hi guys!
