  1. Re: Authentic Thaumaturgy It's been several years since I read AT (I doubt I could even find it in my collection, now), but I don't recall it resembling the power system in Psionics much. Are you, perhaps, thinking of the ritual magic system presented in other GURPS supplements? The variant Hermetic magic in Cabal uses some of the Laws as modifiers.
  2. Re: Conan vs. Elric I also can think of no other published meeting of the two, though I don't claim to be an authority. Mr. Moorcock has referred to details of the making of the team-up storyline in CTB in other places, but notably in his own site, multiverse.org. My own copies of the books in question have sadly gone the way of all things, but, AIR, they only skirmished before joining forces against the real villains of the story, Kulan-Gath and Xiombarg; and eventually Terhali, the Green Empress. {PoI} Xiombarg's chaos army was led by Gaynor the Damned.
  3. Re: Conan vs. Elric Hugh: That was a two-part storyline, in Conan the Barbarian, issues 14 and 15. Barry smith was handling the art in those days: Elric did indeed resemble Corum.
  4. Re: Weird RL Phenomena One could be excused for assuming an underlying, operative intelligence in such a case :/
  5. Re: A Guide To Villainous Motivations Just to point out to those interested in this topic: The GoO supplement Criminal Intent devotes many pages to covering the motivations and motifs of villains. Thanks to both Worldm for the original post and to palehorse for the link to Scott's page!
  6. Re: What would your character do #74 (or so):Gift of Power? I dunno...Start looking? Sounds like a call for "Star Search" to me. :/
  7. Re: Stats for the original Champions team Another satisfied customer!
  8. Re: Stats for the original Champions team Heh, I guess we haven't gotten the attention of those "in-the-know" yet:/ ABAICR, Marksman was indeed a highly trained normal, with some MA but primarily a ranged combatant using variable f/x blasters (I think). Gargoyle was a pretty standard brick: Tough Skin, Superstrength, Winged Flight. I've mentioned it before, but (just for fun) I believe Mechanon's first incarnation was as a servant/guardian robot for the Champion's HQ. PS Flare, again IIRC, was an escaped experiment of one of the villainous organizations. I don't think her origin was magical in nature. She also had a slightly older sister (evil?) with somewhat superior abilities, a parallel to Witchcraft and Talisman.
  9. Re: Stats for the original Champions team Rose was the teleporter (heh, just looking for an excuse to play with the toolbar:) ). In the Champions comic from the mid 80s, I believe stats were printed for the comic version of the team (did not include Gargoyle) but those might be hard to find, now. Perhaps one of the old-timers might still have them?
  10. Re: Code VS Killing Poll Gotta be a literary example (some dystopian work, I'd imagine), but all I can think of OTTOMH is Deadworld, the original homeworld of Judge Death and his pals from Judge Dredd. The Dark Judges there decided that since crimes were committed only by the living, that life itself was a crime (talk about heavy-handed;) ). A possible lit. example might be in some of Niven's future history works (eg, The Jigsaw Man); where, due to the demand for body parts as replacements for failing ones, trivial crimes (by current standards) are deemed to be capital crimes: Of course, there's no sense in wasting the good bits from the condemned's body
  11. Re: Code VS Killing Poll Shin may be thinking of a Golden Age scene, although I can't place an event like that myself. Certainly, it's not a difficult job to track down examples of GA heroes killing (or using deadly force).
  12. Re: Code VS Killing Poll Waffling a bit ( ): As a player, I tend towards the bottom half (3,4,or 5). If I had to pick just one, I'd say my heart was mostly with 5 (yeah, I'm down with expediency ). As a GM, I run my games in a way to encourage my players to be in the top half (1,2,or 3). What's up with that?
  13. Re: I Got It!! My congratulations as well Vanguard! Of all the Hero stuff I've owned from all the previous editions, Strike Force is the only book that I always keep handy on my gaming reference shelf: More than 15 years later, it's still (IMHO) the best supplement ever printed for the game.
  14. Re: The White Rabbit Not way off-topic: Does anyone remember the Oz-Wonderland Wars series (From Captain Carrot)? One of my regrets is letting that one slip away
  15. Re: That Mechanon fella jest ain't right: a roleplay question "Being obliterated makes me very angry! [huff huff huff] Veery angry, Indeed!"
  16. Re: That Mechanon fella jest ain't right: a roleplay question "plethora of fashions"? Say, who programmed this thing's speech patterns?
  17. Re: GOO "The Authority" RPG Curiously, this is probably true..despite the number of real (major threat) villains there. You don't have Strike Force, TQM? It wouldn't involve much work to update the setting and characters to 5E.
  18. Re: GOO "The Authority" RPG It's supposed to be dual statted for both Tri-Stat and d20.
  19. Re: Now that I've seen Reality Storm For Sentinel, it is a nice homage to his years of experience; but for both him and ID the MA Packages look a little out of place. IMO, Sentinel would look better with a more basic set of maneuvers, perhaps making up for the loss of flexibility by adding another CSL. Duke, I think, probably should not have any MA at all (though the Brawling set is not a big stretch for him). I think maybe a level or two of HA, plus a couple of Accuracy CSLs, might be a better model for him.
  20. Re: Now that I've seen Reality Storm Heh, well I don't suppose it is something that would prove useful all that often in the ECU. Probably is meant for attacks such as Vision's "Disruption Touch", or to keep nasty ghostses and demons from possessing you, etc.
