  1. Re: Aamurusko Hamara (a goddess) For the record, Aamurusko Hamara is Finnish for "dawn" and "dusk," while Palva is "night" and Yoh (actually "Yo"), is "day." (Character sheet created by Michael Surbrook) Nice character. However you got day and night mixed. day = päivä night = yö dusk = hämärä Hamara means the dull edge of a blade, like the back of an axe:D Palva is a method of smoking meat ie palvattu kinkku(smoked ham). Yo does not mean anything. Aamurusko you got correctly:thumbup: In Finnish the umlauts are important;) since the meanings of the words change without them. Yes I am Finnish. Kari
  2. Re: Help!!! Gate creation question. More coolness!! Maybe sealing the opening would work like the iris in Stargate, so it can block the transit but wont affect the enchantment.
  3. Re: Help!!! Gate creation question. Now this is cool. You sir are a genius. Thank You. I will certainly use this method.
  4. Re: [split] Paris Hilton-Supervillainess! [builds] Well maybe if you put in the nonsentient disad from the bestiary?
  5. Re: Help!!! Gate creation question. Yes well if you are stupid enough to connect your cashvault to the town marketplace well you get what you deserve. What I envisioned was having all the town squares off a given kingdom connected to each other so that if there is a siege or famine or monstrous infestation in a part of the kingdom people and goods and troops can travel unopposed. The gate would be open all the time but incase of emergency can be destroyed/disspelled to prevent its seizure. Lord Liaden wrote: The most likely method of purchasing this spell would propably be in a multipower or a vpp or through a method similar to the one used in the Turakian age so the point cost is not a major issue. However if this were for a high tech wormhole system I would most likely use the skill approach. I just feel more comfortable handling it this way for magical/nontecnological system.
  6. Re: Help!!! Gate creation question. The use for this would be a situation where only a magician can use the spell and only a small percentage of the population are capable of learning magic. So there would be a Wizards Guild handling the creation and upkeep of these gates as well as charging fees for these servises from the authorities, with a PC being a member of the Guild.(and potentially creating gates like these for his own purposes)
  7. Re: Superhero Legal Disclaimers How about the Riggs method:You have a right to be unconcius...
  8. Re: [split] Paris Hilton-Supervillainess! [builds] INT 18 on a Paris Hilton clone? I would think that she rates a maximum of INT 6. Otherwise a nice build.

    Heroes for pay

Re: Heroes for pay Well, Gurps IST:s are directly paid by the UN and have military rank. Also the Champions:New Millenium team bankrolled their operations by merchandizing so getting paid for superheroics is well supported in gaming material too. Whenever I´ve thought about the Clark Kent/Peter Parker type setup I allways thought it was rather silly premise but accepted it as a genre convention. I would think that a tryly mercenary super team would work quite nisely.

  11. Re: Help!!! Gate creation question. Sorry if I sounded snippy, I was merely exasperated by my own inability to make my point in an understandable fashion. No offense was intended nor taken. (English is not my native language)

  14. Re: Help!!! Gate creation question. Yes this is what I was asking about. So if I set the trigger to activate whenever somebody steps in the area of effect with automatic reset like so: Teleport1", area of effect useable as attack, zero end, one fixed location(to be determined at the time of casting), trigger(whenever someone enters the area of effect, resets automatically). Hmm does´nt this provide only one way travel from the location where the Trigger is set?
  15. Re: Help!!! Gate creation question. Yes I specifically want this to be an ability a PC can use and the PC:s can affect. The point is that yes I can just go the handwavium route and declare that that is what happens, but if possible I would like to be able to quantify such an ability mechanically without handwavium. One of the inspirations for this construct comes from Mage the Ascencions Correspondence sphere level 3 or 4 effect create portal. In that if you roll high enough for duration the gate is practically permanent. So I wonder if this can be achieved without handwavium?
  16. Re: Help!!! Gate creation question. An example of the effect I want to achieve: Teleport 1",Area of effect(one hex),Useable by others, Continuous,Zero-end, Megascale 1"=100km(scales down to 1"=1km),Gate, Independent,1fixed location. The actual costs do not matter. Now the wizard has a spell to create these gates between any two locations he desires and does not need to pay personal xp for these gates that are for all purposes eternal until dispelled. The wizard spends his days connecting places together. So how to do this? Can a Summon work for this spell?
  17. Re: Help!!! Gate creation question. Um, I may have been unclear as to the purpose of my question, I´ll try to rephrase it. I know how to build a gate or a teleport effect in Hero that is not difficult. What I had in mind was an ability to create an endless amount of permanent gates that does not need be paid with xp for every gate just for the ability to create them. For example a high magic civilization where teleport gates connect every town and village and homestead, and there are wizards whose duty is to create these gates and repair them if they are broken like modern utilities. So the question is how to model the ability to create these gates for anyone to use indefinitely without the person having the gateway ability being present. Ie the gateway guild sends a wizard to connect every house like a modern cablecompany. So how to do this? If for example there needs to be actual physical "gateways" that the gate connects? Sorry I don´t know how be clearer than that.
  18. Hi, How to build the ability to create permanent gates between locations? The actual end result would be something like this: Teleport 1” megascale, gate, independent, OAF bulky gateway, 0-end, increased mass etc. Now that construct is not a problem per se but how do you build a spell/power that allows you to create a potentially endless amount of these gates? Summon I believe has a maximum limit active at one time? So how would you do it? Summon? Transform? I am stumped. Help please.
  19. Re: [review] Cheat Sheet Both versions are very useful. Repped.
  20. Re: Nightwind: A Proper Fit for the Champions? I thought his writeup said that he only uses the guns as a last resort, but the MCPD was concerned about a superhero carrying guns for some reason?(even though he has not given them any reason to be)(the original writeup) Kari
  21. Re: How to get swords on your starship Now I would think that the best way to get swords to a spaceship would be in the luggage compartment since I dont think they allow them as carry on luggage.
  22. Re: A variant of standard effect damage You see this is partly why I insist on including some variance in the damage even though using standard effect. My last suggestion ie two levels of standard effect and a "joker" multiplier at attack roll 3 is meant to be used in a high power confrontation whith lots of dc:s (15+) flying around. Basically it would be a 3-way battle between Destroyer, Menton and Arvad the betrayer instigated by the pc. Lowest normal effect there would be 16dc and highest around 25dc. So I want a fastrolling method of dealing whith this amount of power flying around and this would seem to allow that aswell as the possibility of the full range of effects by everyone. Now I wonder if this method would be acceptable whether everyone uses it or not? I played around whith the dice propability sheet in free stuff and it seemed to be very close allthough one does lose some granularity versus the basic method.
  23. Re: A variant of standard effect damage Thanks, so what do think about the random multiplier at attack roll 3?
  24. Re: A variant of standard effect damage Just after I posted my last idea I had another idea on that same rule that does not require critical hits. In this you still have level 1 and level 2 of standard effect but regardles of what the number needed to hit is when your attack roll is an uneven number you get level 1 effect and when your attack roll is an even number you get level 2 effect as long as you hit the target. Rolling 3 still gets the 1d6 method. In this way the gm does not need to reveal the opponents dcv and there is an almost even chance of scoring either level of damage/effect. Am I completely nuts or what??
  25. Re: A variant of standard effect damage A new crazy idea: How about instead of having 1 level of standard effect you could have 2 levels? For example level 1 is normal standard effect 1bod 3stun per dice, and level two is 1bod 4stun per dice(killing damage would be 3bod*3stun and 4bod*3stun respectively). This will require use of the critical hit rules from the Combat handbook. So when you roll to hit if you need say 14 to hit and you roll between 14-8 you do level 1 standard effect and when you roll between 7-4 you get level 2 standard effect. When you roll 3 you roll 1d6 and multiply per dice of your attack/effect. This would seem to have a very good range of possible damage without becoming unwieldy and it would seem to mimic the propabilities of the bellcurve of a large effect to some extent. What do you think?
