  1. Re: How Many U S Heros ?

Demographics has been a fun experiment here many times. There are many factors that go into a serious experiment. And the final of those is regardless of place of origin, Supers don't always stay put.

Why stay in the countryside when there is more crime and action in the city?

  2. Re: KB discussion

I just read most of the posts. And thinking of the early posts, what fights in comics lack KB?

I remember an issue of the Hulk where Hercules, Namor, Wonder Man, and Iron Man try to subdue the Hulk. The KB from the pounding (including shellhead's repulsor rays) destroyed 6 six blocks before Hulk won.

Prior to taunting the Thing into a fight to work out aggression over Johnny and Alicia's wedding (pre-she's a skrull), Jen made sure to locate a building scheduled for demolition to fight in b/c she knew the KB would be devestating. The demolition crew ended up with an early completion bonus after the two's punching at each other destroyed the whole building.

Even Batman and Robin score 1-2" KB results fighting thugs.

Most fights in comics feature KB.

  3. Re: Brainstorm: The Black Paladin Recruits!

The Leech would require me to basically make the Black Paladin his creator, or have him under mind control (which he is quite susceptable to). I do plan on having him being used in a couple of early plots, but mostly as cannon fodder.

For similar reasons, I have decided against using the Monster. Placing him in a team like this would really detract from the Gothic horror elements that make him such an interesting villain.

Having BP or Talisman have been Leech's creator is not a huge leap. Or Talisman might have stolen control of him away from his creators (the Circle of the Scarlet Moon)

  4. Re: Need help with...The List...

    Other thoughts....

    Holocaust - ambitious and powerful

Zorran the Artificer -- magic might be dangerous to Paragon and he is ambitious

Viperia - regardless of the fate of the rest of Viper, she is a direct threat

    Zodiac (if you use them)

  5. Re: Need help with...The List...

Viper - the baddest, meanest, criminal group out there

Dark Seraph / Crowns of Krim - demonic powerhouses

Warlord - highend powerarmor, superteam, and an army

    Takofanes

    Gravitar

    Menton

Champions (assuming they exist and are senior heroes)

Cybermind - just too dangerous to be left free

Taurus & the Zodiac (from 4th ed)

    Justice Squadron

    [the player characters]

  6. Re: What are the "Cosmic Cubes" of the 5th Ed CU?

For those who haven't read the mystic world....can we get a summary descript of some of these items. I don't want the full entry type anything, just a clue.

Spear of Destiny - i know this one

Tablets of Destiny - ??? What are these supposed to do?

Also, are there any non-mystic cosmic super-weapons in the CU? maybe mentioned in Galactic Champions?

  7. Re: Speedster limitation

You can buy clinging, only while moving (-1/2) if you like which will cover running up walls, and you can use Dr A (and Bloodstone's) real world example of the lizard to make a game world rule that any normal sized human can run on water if they have an unbroken speed of (say) 25" a phase or more.

I know that the book suggests limited flight, but it is not necessarily the only way to do it.

At some point in the past when discussing this, I suggested allowing an Adder for clinging that allowed the character to "cling" to the surface of water or other semi-solid materials. It seems bulky to me to purchase flight (with all its inherent features such as a turn mode) when all you want to do is stand on a surface you can't normally stand on. That sounds like clinging to me.

  8. Re: The Invisible World

On the topic of exactly replicating the WoD schemes, I would say it is something like so (for the, "basic five"):

    • Mage, Vampire: Use a Social Limitation. Probably a more extreme one for vampires, as they can be destroyed out of hand for the slightest possibility of alerting the mortal world, whereas it is more a common sense thing for mages (and the goals of many are in fact to--eventually--make the Unawakened aware of the supernatural in one way or another so long as they can do it without getting burned, banished, or pacified by other mages).

Neither Mages nor Kindred (Vampires) have any sort of invisibilitity to mundanes as a default. They both have powers they can utilize to create an invisibility effect. Mages have Arcane, the Mind Sphere, or the Energy Sphere. Vampires have the Obfuscate, Quietus, Chimerstry, and Thaumaturgy Disciplines.

Virtually every WoD supernatural needs a social limitation for alerting the public to them.

Werewolf, Wraith: Use a power (probably Mind Control with a variant of No Conscious Control and/or possibly a Change Environment) coupled with a minor (made less so by the power) Social Limitation.

This is better done as a physical limit on mortals. The Delerium is built into the people, not the werewolf.

Changeling: Use a Physical Limitation that can be partially bought off as part of their, "powers." Poor bastards.

  9. Re: Secret Identity taken at a slightly lesser value...

I think you could do it if you really thought that it would have a limited impact on the character.

But i'd disagree on your assessment of that impact.

The character will now likely be unemployed (too much of a security risk to any company), his personal assets could be in danger (looted or seized by the gov't as leverage for cooperation), he'd lose insurance of all sorts, may be sued in court for actions, his friends and family would likely be attacked by Viper or other enemies.

Oh, the character may be physically unharmed....but his life would be severely impacted.

  10. Re: Gravitar vs Graviton?

There was a time, however, during the late 80's, when Spider-Man kicked his butt (Along with Titania, Goliath, the Brothers Grimm and Paste-Pot Pete, but they was just for exercise), so you have to be careful about what version that you're talking about.

    All in all, Graviton Smash.

Point of Order: that story occured during the Acts of Vengeance arc. Spider-Man was enhanced by the Captain Universe power; He was more powerful than Superman at that point.

  11. Re: Gravitar vs Graviton?

And don't forget his recent ventures in Thunderbolts (vol 1) where he located every major hero worldwide from L.A. and held them captive a thousand feet off the ground (whereever in the world they happened to be).

And he still had power to spare to fight the Thunderbolts and Archangel while pulling off that aforementioned stunt.

In other appearances, he has totally ignored the damage from the Human Torch's nova blast.

  12. Re: Stacking force walls

I thought of a place I would allow the stacking of Force Walls to decent effect: Sci Fi Space Ship Shields' date=' each FW represents a level of shield defence. As they drop you're lost x% of your shields, thus leading to the whole "Shields at 50%!" statment as you're being pounded by the alien mothership.[/quote']

That is usually accomplished with Ablative Force Wall.

  13. Re: Some questions......

I run a Turakian Age IRC game, and my magic system (Taken from the TA book) runs like this...

All spells are designed as individual powers. All spells must take the Spell and Requires a Skill Roll limitations. Other common limitations include incantations, Gestures, Foci, Concentration, and Extra Time. Most spells are cast through a Focus (End Reserve), when a mage is created he/she must specify whether his/her spells are cast through a Focus. If so they get to buy an END reserve, but if lost spells cast without it cost extra END.

What is the Spell limitation? I don't recognize it from Fantasy HERO

  14. Re: Paladin help

One thing to consider is if a deity of trade would have "paladins" in the form we are all familiar with. A paladin is a holy warrior. For a deity of order, good, rulership, justice, or similiar ethos, the typical knight-based powerful warrior is a good template. The powers to confront evil, heal, and shed light are appropriate.

Are these the skills and powers a deity of luck would want? or wisdom? or trade? Consider the goals. A deity of Justice is combatting evil or injustice. But a deity of trade is concerned with diplomacy and finding new routes and places. A "paladin" of such a deity might very well be more of a ranger than a heavy-mob fighter. Powers would reflect being able to overcome barriers (to physical travel and negotiation).

  15. A couple map questions from a hopeless artist.

    1) what happened to the Turkanian Age maps in the Free Stuff? there was labeled and unlabeled.

    2) Keith -- can we bribe you to post an unlabeled version of your Savage Earth Maps?
