  1. Re: Superman Averts World War II?

Again the problem is hitting him.

Even a 88 (one of the best Flak guns) needed between 16,000 and 3,000 shoots - if used against a bomber, for wich you got a radar image.

And you need him to be and stay where you can hit him in the first place.

And even if you manage to pin him, then the tank gun or howitzer has to hit. They had trouble hitting a tank size target back then.

Dude, they were hitting Tank size targets while moving over broken over at optimal ranges, much less hitting 6x6 test armors at extreme ranges. Already posted some of the numbers. Seriously, Superclone at the power level mentioned is a pain in the butt but it wouldn't be that hard to trap or outright kill him.

  2. Re: Characters from DC's Earth 2 - mostly 5e

They've pretty much taken the logical road with Al Pratt. Highly trained spec ops NonComm, with all the later set up of the old Atom (strength, durability, Atomic punch), combined with the power set of Atom Smasher, and judging from the costume and Back and forth from the industry folks, Damage as well. 2 of the three confirmed so far, and getting a lot of wink wink nudge just wait for issue 5 on the last. My builds are 6e and go along slightly other different lines. Fairly sure all Al did in the last issue was stick his landing so to speak. I'll double check to make sure though.

Which is why I was asking about the power level. I think folks seriously underestimate the sheer power of a direct hit from nearly any munition in the HERO system or the real world for that matter. At 100m, Superclone isn't much smaller then the standard testing target. Take something like the Pak 43, which is going to shoot a round at him moving at over 1000 m/s, which at 100m will punch right through 202mm (about 8" or so) of homogenous armor plate. There's gonna be more then one, and they fire around 25 rounds a minute at anywhere out to 17,000 yards though 4,400 yards was optimal for best effect...

That's not even the AP or HEAT round. Basically, Superclone is dead in one hit if a pile of TnT is capable of knocking him for a loop (And you may want to check the sheer damage of a room full of TnT since that's basically, 12DC to start at .45kg and goes up 1DC every .45 kg so think of how many d6 that is, when you're talking about a measly 100 pounds of TNT.... Don't even have to get close then. Talking about Detonation waves around 20,000 f/s so, this Superclone, isn't getting away....

Stuff like that is why I always harp about comparative scale. Got to know what the world IS, in game rules, before one rolls out the game effects.

The Module returns.... Honestly, Modules are a good thing. Even if folks didn't want to "Run" The module, there was always plenty of stuff in them, Maps and what not, characters, all done and ready to swipe. Such a thing would be a good thing.

:nonp: Really? There are other' date=' better ways of dealing with this situation than Killing the PC in question.[/quote']

Oh very true if we're dealing with a PC. Easily dozens of different ways. Some very simple if you're willing to cross a line here or there. I liked the Thor angle as well.

  6. Re: Superman Averts World War II?

After careful thought and a bit of reading.... My view is that SuperMensch delays the start of the war about 3 months.... Then is killed. Unless it's Planet Pushing Silver Age Superclone, or the Current Model, you don't need a nuke to kill him you could do it with a few 8.8's or even a basic Artillery Barrage of the time. Especially effective if you plan correctly.

  7. Re: [New Product] Champions Complete

I have to agree with this. But they'd have had to find a different name for the super game than just "Champions." maybe "Comic Book Champions."

edit: In any case, this is fruitless speculation; the decision was made long ago.

The palindromedary promises that if you build it, they will come

If I were going to keep the Champions Name (Which I think is the Brand to run with to be Honest), the Follow up Genre books would run in the like format.. Champions The Super Role Playing Game. Now swap Super for Fantasy, or Pulp, or SF or a small and harmless looking rubber ducky etc etc ... You have "Champions" in all those genres, but in the end, the classic Comic Book of today, or Comic Team like the Avengers or the JLA/JSA, has components of EVERY other Genre there is, from Sword Swinging Knights to Alien Policemen armed with the Ultimate Weapon, all at the same time in the same place. Hence, the Super RPG.

  8. Re: Classic Super Hero Teams

That the "No Duplicate Powers" Snafu from JLA 146? That was a writer gaff, apparently drawn from the Legion of Super Heroes background (hence I blame it on Superman having Flashbacks....). Hawkgirl was originally denied JLA Membership because the bylaws only admit one new Member at a time. Englehart basically pulled the No Duplications rule out of the hat in issue 146, mostly because previous to that the Silver Age JLA only held 4 Elections for new members (JLA # 4, # 14, # 31, # 42) ..... For a lot of reasons the JLA back in the day kept a tight reign on Membership, both on and off the pages......

~Rex ....Now the Legion, that's a different story. Wildfire couldn't get in at first because when he first showed up all he could do was Duplicate everyone else's power (though that story did show he had a unique power....that would be a lot of dice on a Champions table heh)...Same with Lighting Lass/Light Lass etc etc ....

Able to fly at just short of the speed of sound' date=' toss a tank, lift a destroyer, bend a battleship's main gun and "see and hear" the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Thus he can listen in on radio and see people (as indistinct blobs) through walls. A direct hit by an artillery shell causes injury. Luring him into a trap with a ton of dynamite would knock him unconscious for an extended period.[/quote']

Ah... OK. I'll get back to this at lunch or after work. Placeholder.

  10. Re: Post apocalyptic HERO

    I'm with Rex here.

Nothing I like better than sitting down with a shiny new atlas and deciding how I'm gonna destroy the world.

I've got that same soft spot, Rex. Two of the best ever made. Played the living hell out of The Morrow Project, eventually converted our Lucifer's Hammer inspired Aftermath game into Hero. We also mashed up the rules from Danger International, Champions 2 (for the vehicle rules) and Autoduel Champions and did a Car Wars inspired hero game.

So, yeah, count me in as a willing brainstormer

Heh...ran my Aftermath game modeled on Lucifers Hammer as well. Great Minds. :D

~Rex.... Such a good book as well. Think I'll dig it out and re read it when I get home.

  11. Re: Post apocalyptic HERO

Run various forms of "Post Apocolyptic" ranging from Realistic "Mad Max" stuff up to full blown Thundarr the Barbarian Conquers Gamma World stuff .....Not to hard, just depends how "real you want it".....

~Rex....Veteran of Every Post Apocalyptic RPG ever made. Converted them all to HERO but still has a Soft spot for Aftermath and The Morrow Project.....

  12. Re: Classic Super Hero Teams

There was competition, it's just all mostly Public Domain nowadays.... There are also a few other characters that could stand with the Shield if you had to like Steel Sterling, The Scarlet Avenger, Zambini the Miracle Man, The Web and a few others from "Archies" MLJ days back in the 40's.... The old Zip Comics imprint if I recall right.....

    ~Rex.... Brings the Comic Genius....

  13. Re: Classic Super Hero Teams

The Mighty Crusaders are cool' date=' but they weren't around in the Forties, and I don't think their adventures have been set there, either.[/quote']

The Shield was. The rest rolled in around the Mid 60's or so. Got details at home. The team first showed up in The Fly's title and then they expanded from there. Current digital project is really good story wise. Nice legacy set up. DC really dropped the ball with the Red Circle property but did do a good take on both The Shield and The Web. Going so far as to swipe stuff from The Web and stuff it into Batman Inc.

  14. Re: Help me grok HERO!

Except lifting capacity in Hero is a deadlift, and in Marvel it's an overhead lift. So, add five points for the doubling. =)

Then again, Marvel doesn't actually know what anything weighs anyway, and a 60 STR has always been a benchmark in Hero, so it's fine as is.

In Marvel it's a Benchpress. At least as far as their old OHOTMU material goes. Currently they just use lift. Gets more fun after that simply because you can deadlift more then you can lift, and then there's all the really fun stuff like Clean and Jerks, and Military Presses..etc etc etc. I think the APG came up with some splits for different types of lifting, on top of things like the Analyze skill use, and good old fashioned Pushing.

Will have a thread for that stuff this weekend. Inspired by another thread. Anyway hot to get back to slinging drums of solvent.

  15. Re: [New Product] Champions Complete

Man' date=' so do I! I loved those books. I also miss Seeker and the 4th ed Champions and, in all honesty, I also miss C:NM. I'd really like to see a comprehensive CU book that includes The Champions' history and the heroes that have been members ;)[/quote']

There is no Seeker. All of the Champions of that era were trapped on a forcefield encased Island Trap designed by Dr. Destroyer. Everyone in turn was hunted down and eaten by Jaguar, who died of Food poisoning later from eating Seeker.
