They're OK, if you like that sort of thing. And I admit I do.

 

I admit I can think of several interpretations of that item Old Man posted above, the one I favor being, what they tell the really smart kid who intellectually intimidates his teachers when in middle & high school, and the threatened teachers push back on him. Then when he gets to college ... well, that's where his people have been all along.

I interpreted it as more of a disciplinary bent.  Behavior control is much more prevalent in regular school.  In college nobody GAF.  Professors are absolutely not responsible for students and they are free to attend or fail at their discretion.

That also is true, within certain limits. Don't disrupt classes and other academic activities, and it's not necessarily that no one cares, but it is not within the duty set for people to enforce compliance with expected behavioral norms. Some people may care, and that may impact you when you go looking for letters of recommendation etc., but no one is gonna yell at for riding a skateboard on the sidewalk.
