Trebuchet
Re: Disads for "Cheese Champions!" Imaginary Secret Identity: The character maintains a "secret ID" which everyone knows about, but they act like they don't know he's a superhero so they don't hurt his feelings. I stole this idea from the classic comic spoof Megaton Man twenty years ago, who in his Secret Identity as Trent Floog, Mild Mannered Reporter For A Great Metropolitan Newspaperâ„¢, wore his very noticeable cowl and cape under his zoot suit and all his co-workers in the newsroom pretended not to notice. Of course, Megaton Man made even The Tick look like Einstein. Once he fell 25 stories and hit the ground with a resounding thud, leaving a crater 10 feet deep. Only then did he remember he could fly. wagnern
Re: Disads for "Cheese Champions!" how about the psych limitation: Can only use powers when it would be funny. IE: His friends try to rescue him, only to find out he has been excaping, going to the bad guys caffiteria, stealing frute pies, then returning to his cell to eat them. Publius
Re: Disads for "Cheese Champions!" Ah, Cheese Champions. The thread title reminded me of a story. Once, not long ago, one of the super-intelligent members of a superteam was at an office party. You know, one of those events where a group of puffed up supers gets together in a hotel ballroom and chit-chats while dastardly plans are being hatched elsewhere in the city. Anyway, this super-intelligent guy decided (being far too intelligent to mingle) that he would use the chesse tray to classify the various powers exhibited by the heroes and villains of the city. Cheddar for instance would represent superior-strength and Munster for the Metamorphs and pepper-jack for gadgeteers, that sort of thing. A complex system of slices and twisting was used to represent mixed-power types. As the night wore on, he stacked the cheese into piles, ordering more of all the different types of cheese they had available (save for one) from the puzzled waitstaff and collecting a group of other hyper-intelligent supers all around him, watching his work silently for clues as to what the heck it was supposed to be (silently, for they were also far too intelligent to mingle). Finally one of them had the temerity (or simple lack of hurbris, since most were nodding their heads in approval even though they themselves had no idea what was going on) to ask the cheese-stacker what the heck the whole thing was about. The cheese-stacker, who happened to be finally finished, then declared: "This represents my study of heroes and villains of the city, specifically the distribution of their powers." He went on to explain his cheese code. The collected super-intellectuals all nodded and then one of them glancing from one stack to a more-or-less evenly tall stack and finally asked: "Which one represents the heroes and which one represents the villains?" (select the text by cursor to see the answer) "Simplicity itself, look at the cheese at the base" the cheese stacker replied, pointing at each in turn. "This is the Gouda tray, and that is the no-Gouda tray."
dbcowboy
Re: Disads for "Cheese Champions!" One of the guys I played with years ago had a comedy character named Ninja Beaver. Every time he walked through a doorway a 7-11 Big Gulp spontaneously appeared in his hand. He was pretty easy to track inside a building. Half the time you found him in the bathroom anyway. I don't know if that was written up as a DF disadvantage or just a Change Environment.
input.jack
Re: Disads for "Cheese Champions!" Rose and Thorn had this. Actual DC characters with their own book' date=' IIRC.[/quote'] And scorchy hot!
joegottman
Re: Disads for "Cheese Champions!" There's several good ones in the Excel Saga manga. For instance, Hyatt has accidental change (corpse) 11-, when under physical or emotional stress. She "dies", convincingly enough to fool a doctor, about once or twice a day. After a little bit she wakes up, none the worse for wear. Also, Elgala has the psych lim "Cannot keep her thoughts to herself". If she's talking to you and thinks you're an idiot, she will say "idiot!" without realizing she has done so.
AdamLeisemann
Re: Disads for "Cheese Champions!" No Everyman Deduction/Comes to ridiculous conclusions: (note - ones even ridiculous by Cheese Champions standards...this may be hard depending on the GM) "Hmmm...the bank is being robbed...there are masked men inside with guns...a car is idling out front...ZOUNDS! Only bureaucrats would so wantonly waste fuel! This is an undercover mission by the Federal Reserve to remove excess notes from circulation to battle the insidious scourge of INFLATION! They must be allowed to perform their vital function for the economic health of America!" Prepare to be repped, mere mortal.... BWAHAHAHA.... AdamLeisemann
Re: Disads for "Cheese Champions!" Well, this isn't Champions... More like CheesePunk, but here's something: Under Perks: Reputation: Always gets the job done. Under Powers: 6d6 Luck Under Disadvantages: Reputation: Buffoon who only gets the job done by sheer dumb luck. All on the same character. An idea I had, admittedly, for a hero for a series of cyberpunk stories, but the same combo works well for superheroes as well.
