Rails
I vaguely remember hearing a joke about splitting Alaska in half, thereby making Texas the third-largest state.
Cancer
No one drives any portion of Western Australia under 90 km/h, do they? TX takes longer if you are going the southern route, too. Going thru El Paso means you've spent a couple hundred extra miles in TX.

I can ask a friend who has done it. In the NT we used to have open limits -- go as fast as you can. Then we brought in speed limits, and i think there maybe some sections which have now open limits. BlueCloud2k2
Conneticut-sized states or Arizona-sized? I live in Missouri, she lives in Wyoming. Though Utah, Iowa, and Ohio are sort of medium-sized. Texas is big, though. Not as big as Alaska, though. Southern Wyoming at 55 is bad enough. I can't imagine crossing Texas at that speed. Been there, done that. Ain't going back.

Bazza
You can be assured, no tree burning is done. The bright read flowers on the trees are nicknamed "flame trees" which becomes obvious when you see them.
