Bazza
4 hours ago, Cancer said: Read that one already From a different perspective, have a read of this essay. It is by Hedwig Conrad-Martius titled: "Phenomenology and speculation". Being one of the original Munich phenomenologists Hedwig proposes a qualitative/essential (phenomenological) approach/method along side natural science. From your (and also Pariah's) background in hard science, I'd be interested in your comment, should you (or Pariah) read it.
Bazza
You might like to also consider this -- FYI. If you (or Pariah) are after a quick read for arguments made from both science & philosophy as to God's likely existence, this author does it very well: Evidence for God from Physics and Philosophy: Extending the Legacy of Monsignor George Lemaître and St. Thomas Aquinas, by Spitzer, Robert J., S.J. (I'm sure you would have heard of him) Another more authoritative (from the flip side) is Rene Guénon's The Reign of Quantity. It is as much a defence of the fundamental principles known perennially across cultures and civilisations, as it is a critique of modern civilisation. Basically, as much as Carl Sagan is respected to scientific reason, Rene Guénon is likewise respected with regard to the perennial philosophical reason. Lastly, here is a 600 page tome on natural theology. From the blurb: Natural Theology is that branch of philosophy which investigates what human reason unaided by revelation can tell us concerning God. I'm sure you will not read it, but point it out that such a volume exists.
Cancer
Well, any substantial reading will have to wait until at least our summer. Much, much to much to do between now and the middle of June.
