Here Be Dragons!

Recommended Posts

Heya folks!

If this is a redundant thread, my apologies... just point me to the correct thread. However, if not:

I'm sure that more than a few of you have built a dragon or two. This is the place to post them for all to see!

Dragons, dragons big and small

I would like to see them all!

The biggest, baddest on the map

Will earn their builder lots-o-rep!

:D

Re: Here Be Dragons!

I never built dragons (or any creatures, for tht matter), but here are a few types of dragon listed in the Enchanted World series:

Heraldic Dragon: four legs, ridge of sharp spines, spiked nose, barbed and stinging tail

Wyvern: coiling trunk, two legs, wings. Found in Northern Europe, Greece, Ethiopia.

Amphiptere: had wings but no legs. Guarded frankincense-bearing trees in Arabia and the Nile.

Guivre: Has a dragon's head, but no legs or wings. Lives near water and in forests and wells.

Lindworm: Two legs but flightless. Allegedly sighted by Marco Polo in Central Asia.

Re: Here Be Dragons!

Thanks for the suggestions, Tkdguy.

I'm hoping that some enterprising GM out there has created a large and powerful alpha-dragon... the kind a GM can thoss at an entire team of heroes to keep them busy for a while.

I want a huge battle of epic proportions! :)

Huzzah!

Re: Here Be Dragons!

I was in a campaign once that was like that - dragons were powers in the land. Virtually the 'powers behind the throne' for every kingdom. Actually the power behind several thrones - dragons tended to have several kingdoms in their territories.

And no, we never fought them - it was foolish to even consider it with anything short of a large army.

So it depends on the flavour of dragons in your game, and how they relate to your world.

On a side note - frequently in that particular campaign our PCs were the least powerful, and enemies were mostly many times our combined strength. We tended to be caught up in events, and catalysts for change.

Re: Here Be Dragons!

I only need one dragon. This will be for a scenario along the lines of the movie, Reign of Fire.

I don't have the book with a standard dragon written up. I wouldn't want to use a book dragon anyway. I am hoping that somebody here in the Fantasy side of the Hero boards will have a fantastic dragon specimen to share. :)

Consider this a challange to build a bad-ass dragon. :D

Great wrietup! Can i get a .hdc file for the baby dragon? I'm thinking of giving it to a party of fantasy adventurers as a mascot, having been orphaned by a less ethical adventuring party.

You're welcome to use it and abuse it, but I don't have Hero Designer, so someone else will have to type it into hdc file.

Re: Here Be Dragons!

Thanks to you, Frenchman! That was very helpful.

I will be running this dragon against a full group of 5 or 6 standard superheroes (350 pts + XPs) so I need a powerful villain that will give them a strong fight, yet can be defeated- and by that, I mean killed- in the end since there is no place for dragons in a present-day world.

Cheers,

Sugoihentaimono is not that hard to trick or trap, but is very hard to fight head on. However, add 300 points to the Jade Dragons or drop SHMs Atomic Breath and you'll have a good fight. :)

Re: Here Be Dragons!

I am still fond of the Slayers dragons, the most intelligent of whom (Gold Dragons and Anicent Dragons, although by the time of the series the latter had been essentially wiped out) cna assume human form.

In that cosmology, the intelligent Dragons or Dragon race (Ryuzoku -- did I spell that right?) were to the good gods what Mazoku were to Shabranigdo and the other demon lords. Thus there was a long-running rivalry between the two races. A thousand or so years before, the two races had fought a war that had ravaged the world. Dragons were very hard to kill, but a powerful Mazoku had a reputation for having killed thousands of them single-handed during the war.

There were other dragons as well, but they were mainly mindless, rampaging beasts. The most prominent of these were the Black Dragons, which were sometimes used as pets and intidmation tools by bandit gangs, and the Lake Dragons, which were hunted by humans for food. Dragon Cuisine was the king of foods in the Slayers world, but very hard to prepare -- you had to let the meat sit for six months, for example, to let the poison gradually leech out. Since Lake Dragons were rare and hard to catch, Dragon Cuisine was a rare treat that only the very luckiest of people ever got to sample.
