As many of you know, I like both SanAngelo and the International Super Teams concept that was originally created for GURPS Supers, but can be used with any system.

I'd like to present the campaign timeline first. Some of the stuff is from IST author Robert M.Schroeck's own page, http://www.eclipse.net/~rms/ist1990s.html. Other items are from various universes and my own head. Much of this has been adapted from the timeline on my first IST San Angelo thread, Since this is the San Angelo universe, aliens are not known to exist and, until 2004, nobody knew that magic existed.

In 250 BC, 200 Amazone met 2 Roman legions in battle in a valley in Greece. When the battle ended, all 200 Amazons were dead, as were half the Romans.

In 425 AD, A Roman military commander received orders to help a priest, located above Hadrian's Wall, control the local population. They were also told that this was their last mission and after its conclusion, he and his men could return home. They went and, seeing what the priest was doing, turned against him.

The commander and his men joined forces with the newly-freed people to return south of Hadrian's Wall. The commander and his warriors, both male and female, joined forces to force the invading Saxons to retreat.

After the battle, the commander was appointed king. Then, he married the bravest of the female warriors and they were instermental in building a timber-frame castle on Cadbury Hill. We know the couple as King Arthur and Queen Guinevere and their castle as Camelot.

In 1820, Santa Helena, in Spanish California, was home to the Queen of Swords, who, depending on your point of veiw, was either a bandet or a vigilante.

In 1989, the Monteray Bay History Museum added an exibit on the Queen of Swords. Included in the exibit are replicas of her weapons and a dummy wearing a replica of her costume.

In 1995, scholars discovered the remains of Arthur and Quinevere as well as the site of Camelot.

In 1996, Singapore officials announced that the U.N.'s secret hot-fusion electrical generating process has been duplicated.

In 1997, during his inaguration speach, President Patrick Buchanon denounces the U.N.'s ambitions to become a world government. Later that same year, he announces that the United States would no longer pay its U.N. dues.

In 1998, when the U.N. threatened to shut down its power plants in the U.S. if the dues weren't paid, President Buchanon announces that the United States has its own hot-fusion power plants.

Later that same year, after the IST partially thwarted a U.S. bombing of Cuban military bases in retalitation for Cuba's attempt to bring a Cold War-vintage 1 megaton nuclear weapon into Miami, by cigeratte boat, President Bucannon threatened to evict the U.N. and IST Supreme Command headquarters from New York City.

In 1999, a museum was opened at the site of the battle between the Amazons and Romans.

In 2001, George Bush became President.

In January of 2003, Jack Ryan announced that he was a candidate for the Presidency. He also announced that, if elected his wife, Cathy, would continue her practice as an eye doctor and his oldest daughter, Holly, a married woman, would continue as a circus performer.

In June of that same year, Sunnydale, California crumbled into a crater. The area is now Sunnydale Crater National Park. In the park, behind a chain link fence, is a yellow schoolbus that, according to the sign on the fence, was the last vehicle to leave Sunnydale.

In July of 2004, an army of dragons and evil demons invaded L.A. They were opposed by the police, army, good demons, street gangs, the IST and others. The whole battle was broadcast live by several networks.

While it was going on filmmaker Michael Moore was being interviewed by two networks. On one, he stated that President Bush had connections with the law firm Wolfram and Hart, and that Wolfram and Hart had connections with Hell. In the other, he claimed that Bush was busing in demons to help sway the election. On another channel, an American soldier was talking about batteling evil demons in South America. Still another channel had the British PM and Senior Vampire Slayer Buffy Summers holding a press conference. Another channel had Captain Jim Brass of the Las Vegas Police talking about demons and working with the Slayers and their associates. He stated that the Slayers cooperate with all law enforcement agencies and the agencies receive updated packages, through the usual channels, on a regular basis.

There are two kinds of unicorns in the world. Those derived from the horse and those derived from the goat.

The goat-derived unicorn was created by breeding animals that have their horns closer than normal to each other until they fuse. Many circuses and animal parks have them.

The horse-derived unicorn, on the other hand, is from the spirit world. A now-closed gate led from that world to the Tipsy Q Ranch, which is located just outside Snowy Falls, Colorado, a town too small to show up on most maps. The ranch is now the Tipsy Q National Wildlife Refuge. Samuel and Libby Quarrels Coldpony, the ranch's former owners, manage the refuge for the United States Department of the Interior and hunting isn't permitted in the range.

Of all the unicorns, only Phyllis, a sturdy mare, stays with the horses. The others stay near the trees and mountains.

Nevada's Perfection Valley is home to a sterile white graboid named El Blanco, who the valley's 14 or so people somehow coexist with. Adding to the fun is the fact that the valley floor is coated with Mix Master, a cemeical that enables non-human DNA combine in various ways. Due to this, and the graboid, the valley is a haven for scientific researchers.

While we're in Nevada, we'll make a quick stop in Las Vegas.

All Nevada Crime Scene Investigators are deputy sheriffs and carry a department-approved firearm that they must maintain profiency with.

CSI Catherine Willows, the swing-shift supervisor at Clark County's crime lab, is a metahuman. She can become a Bengal tiger that has human intelligence and has had to go through the same training police dogs do.

After a high-speed camera experiment. conducted by computer and audio/visual expert Archie Johnson, it was discovered that she has an in between form that resembles a humanoid tiger. Catherine, however, can't, yet, stop her change at that form.

Santa Barbara, California's Nelson Institute of Marine Research is home to the submarine Seaview. Former Seaview commanding officers Admiral Lee Crane and Vice Admiral Chip Morton now head the institute that was founded in the 1970s by the late Admiral Harrimon Nelson. Chip's son. Captain Robert Morton, is the current Captain of the Seaview. Lee's son, Commander David Crane, is his executive officer.

The Nelson Institute of Marine Research has began building a new type of research submarine. These feature transparent noses, a periscope, radio, radar, sonar, ballast tanks, an air lock, hydro jets and an experimental cold-fusion reactor. One of these, the Seabat, is on loan to the University of California San Angelo's Miller Oceanic Institute, which is in Garrett's Landing, a suburb of San Angelo.

After he and his associates retired, Harry Broderick donated their ship, the Vulture, and a lot of stuff associated with it to UC San Angelo's Wells Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science. (More on this building in a later post.)

Boeing recently unveiled the single-stage-to-orbit shuttlecraft that they built using the 747 as a base. It's name is Enterprise and it carries the tail number NCC-1701.

The European public loves its heroes--and sometimes its villains, if they show style. Some criminals, such as le Chat Noir (French for the Black Cat) of France are cult figures for their flamboyance and their fefusal to cause serious harm to either persons or property. Heroes are given as much government backing as the U.N. will allow.One of England's best-known hero teams, The Knights of Pendragon, is a group of men and women empoweered by the Green Knight, a protective nature spirit that watches over the world in general (and England in particular).

The current team consists of businesswoman Francesca Lesley Grace (who prefers to be addressed only as Grace), Kate McClellan, Astra TV's fearless and beloved reporter and Joey Chapman, the current Union Jack. Joey's lover, Lady Jacqueline Falsworth-Chrichton, the World War II era superheroine Spitfire, sometimes joins the team.

The knights posess superhuman strength, endurance and speed, enhansed fighting abilities and can sense Banes, minor demons that serve a greater demon known as The Red Lord. They also can summon speader bikes that can jump, through ley space, to alternate realities and change from what they are wearing to mystical armor. Additionally, they can converse with the owls that act as the Green Knight's messangers and sentrys.

Grace, a dark-haired woman and former Bane Queen, always wears her armor in combat and, possibly to make up for her time as an enemy, is the team's fiercest fighter

Blonde, blue-eyed Kate can generate electricity. She prefers to fight in street clothes and recently has started wearing the black leathers she bought for a five-part series on the United Kingdom's motorcycle sub-culture. When she uses it, Kate's armor looks Medieval. She has, at least, once stated that she is the current wielder of the Pendragon powers that were once carried by Queen Guinevere. Upon hearing that, historians commented that the real Guinevere probably wore leather armor, not scale mail.

Joey prefers his Union Jack costume to his armor, but has worn both.

When with the team, Jacqueline wears her Spitfire costume, without the mask.

The Pendragon power the Knights posess isn't on all the time. They have to activate it. Once, Kate shattered all the glass in the vicinity when she activated her powers.

The Slayers, IST, and Knights of Pendragon all get along quite well.

The speeder bikes have AI systems and road atlases in their memories.

My version of la Chat Noir is a tall, polite, and soft-spoken female cat burglar with exquisit taste in loot and a silencer-equipped Beretta 92F that's always loaded with knockout darts.

Like all of Europe's "gentle" metavillains, confrontations with her are like chess matches instead of battles. She is a bit ticked off at the Sauve Marauder, Metahuman Monthly's fashion columnist over comments he made about her matt-black coostum and has threatened to send him a hairball or two.

Recently, Paris was plaighed by a serial killer that targeted only prostitutes. Ordering the IST to let them handle it, the police were unable to catch him. However, la Chat Noir caught him in the lct while burglarizing the 20th story penthouse apartment of a wealthy Parisian lawyer. After knocking out, binding, and gagging him, (the lawyer had already bound and gagged the prostitute) she stole what she was after, then escaped, tripping the alarm on the way out. The Paris Police tried to make it look like they did it, but the headline in the next morning's newspaper, CAT BURGLAR BAGS PROSTITUTE KILLER, and the accompanying story, left them with egg on their faces.

In this campaign universe, women wear gloves more than they do in the real world. Why? Nobody knows. However, the three most popular reasons given by people that study such things are, they're in fashion again, popular culture has influenced fashion, and a tribute to a dead superheroine has influenced fashion. Let's look at the sources of the last two.

Susan Stafford, a stuntwoman and fitness model, has been Wheel of Fortune's hostess from the start and looks as young today as she did when she joined the program in 1975. In 1978, while doing a movie stunt, she cut her left arm from the palm to just above the elbow. Fortunately, the cut wasn't deep. In order to hide the cut and bandages, she decided to wear cocktail dresses and long gloves only while her arm healed. Letters from fans liking her new look made her decide to stay with it.

Electra, a fearless and much-loved IST member whose touch could literally shock people, always wore gloves to keep her powers under control. Women began wearing gloves as an attempt to copy her. After she was killed, in 1995, by terrorists while trying to rescue some children, women started wearing them as a tribute to her.

San Angelo is slightly southwest of Sacramento.

The San Angelo River feeds into the Sacremento River Gulf, then through various bays and channels to the Pacific Ocean by way of San Francisco Bay.

Although there has been some talk of building a lighthouse in Garratt's Landing, the closest lighthouse to San Angelo is the sixth-order caison light in Suisun Bay, near where an older lighthouse was destroyed in the 1940s.

Racing is important to many in the San Angelo/Sacramento area. Sacramento itself is home to three tracks, Sacramento Downs, Sacramento Motor Speedway and Sacramento Park. Marshall, a rural community near San Angelo, is home to two more, San Angelo Park and San Angelo Raceway. San Angelo Speedway, a dargstrip in the Devil's Bar area of Southport doesn't exist in this version of the area.

Sacramento Downs is a thoroughbred track. It features a 7/8-mile grass oval inside a one mile dirt oval. The facilityitself is an exact duplicate of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club near San Diago. The parade marshal wears English riding clothes and her hourses, white Arabians, wear English tack. The bugler is referred to as the hornblower because he plays a coach horn and looks like a circus ringmaster in his red tail coat and black top hat.

Sacramento Motor Speedway is a 2.50mile Indy-style oval with a 3.194-mile internal road course. The road course's two internal shunts permit it to be also used in 2.7-mile, 2.94-mile and 2.98-mile configurations. The main straight is also used as a dragstrip. The track owner has no interest in amateur races and doesn't permit them on his track.

Sacramento Park is a dog track. The original owner's four year old daughter named the rabbit lure Thumper, after a rabbit in the Disney movie Bambi.

San Angelo Park is a 5/8-mile limestons surface harness track. Like all harness tracks, it has two mobile starting gates. One is based on a Chevy Silverado pickup truck. The other is based on a Cadilac Senan DeVille. The parade marshall wears Western clothes and her mounts, Leopard Appalossas, wear Western tack. The bugle call is prerecorded.

San Angelo Raceway is based on the old Continental Divide Raceway, which was near Castle Rock, Colorado. It was a 1/2 mile oval, a dragstrip, and a 2.66-mile road course. A portion of the dragstrip is used is the front straight for the oval and road course and the oval's back straight is part of the road course. There is also a go-kart track on the road course infield and the property also boasts a figure 8 track. The track's pace car is a Ford Mustang. The official truck is the Ford F-150. The Sports Car Club of America region also keeps its Chevy Corvette pace car here.

The San Angelo Vintage Car Grand Prix was originally going to be held on a temporary street circuit in Samuel Brackett City Park.The city government insisted that Ben Morgan be made a member of the race association.

Ben made arrangements to have a local exotic car dealer provide the event's pace car, a Lamborghini Murcielago, and have the dealer's 17-year old son drive it.

The association members that were also members of the Sports Car Club of America explained that that wouldn't be legal because the boy wasn't qualified, under either Sports Car Club of America or Vintage Sports Car Club of America rules to pace a race.

Fuming, Ben Morgan resigned from the association and the city, no doubt at Ben's prompting, refused permission for the race to be held within the city limits. The owner of San Angelo Raceway heard about the problem and offered his track to the association for the race. They accepted.

There will be no special pace car for the Vintage. Instead, the track's Mustanf pace car will pace the event, with the region's Corvette pace car as its backup.

The Wells Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science is part of the University of California San Angelo. It's a large, handicapped-accessable building with a dome above the planetarium's Theater of the Stars. Cell phone use is discouraged in the building and both the Little Science Theater and Theater of the Stars have cell phone jammers (in the campaign, the FCC permits them), and, when activated, the 1.2 million volt Oudin-type Tesla coil jams them, too.

On your right, as you enter, is the front desk, where you buy tickets. Beyond it are interactive displays. More are across the back wall. Across from the front desk is the gift shop. Beyond it are more displays, stairs down, an elevator and the entrance to the Hall of the Universe. In the center of this section are a Foucault Pendulum and the Tesla coil.

On your left, as you enter, more interactive displays, another set of stairs going down and the entrance to the Little Science Theater line the walls. In the center is a Van de Graaff electrostatic generator.

Careful observers will note hinged metal plates in the floor. Under these plates are electrical outlets and RF connectors.

Directly ahead, as you enter, are stairs leadin up to the Theater of the Stars and stairs that go furthur up.

The Hall of the Universe is a large area withmaps and interactive displays. On the far side of the room is the room holding the Vulture, and the artifacts (junk, to some people) that came with it.

The Little Science Theater is a 300-seat auditorium with a demonstration table in front of the room. At the back of the auditorium, near the entrance, behind a locked door, are the stairs to the projection booth.

The Theater of the Stars is a 450-seat theater in the round. The raised center section is the well that houses Jake, Zeiss Mark IV planetarium projector. (When the Zeiss is raised, the opening section from Richard Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra, better known as the 2001: A Space Odyssey, is played.) This, however, isn't the only projector. There are also Carousel slide projectors, several video projectors and 16 and 35 mm motion picture projectors, all mounted, along with HVAC equipment, work lights, speakers and insulation between the theater's domed screen and the building's dome. The domed screen has a number of small holes in it. Sometimes, the lecturer will turn down the theater lights and turn up the work lights before a show to let people wee this.

More displays, both interactive and regular, are downstairs, as are the two club rooms and an audio-visual equipment storage room. (From the second week of December to the second week of January, a model railroad and village are set up down here, too.)

The stairs by the Theater of the Stars lead up to the second floor, where the library and sky show production rooms are. (The production rooms are off-limits to visitors and also contain the computer equipment maintaining the planetarium's email and web servers.)

Continuing up the stairs, we come to the observatory containing the planetarium's 10-inch siderostat-type refractor telescope and two portable telescopes, a 5-inch refractor and a 18-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector.

During eclipses, the 5-inch refractor is taken onto the roof and a video camera is hooked up to it. The resulting image is fed to the building's closed-circuit video system and is also webcast to the public. For solar eclipses, the camera is pointed at a white screen that is attached to the telescope. For lunar eclipses, the camera lens acts as the telescope's eyepiece.

If you have a copy of the San Angelo map, look at square C9. Item 80, located in that square, is, according to the map key, Delta Financial Bank. It's also the northeast square of a three by three grid around IST San Angelo.

The northwest square is a public parking garage.

The north square is a 40-story office building. On the first floor are a computer store, a deli, a coffee shop and a dental office, eachwith it's own entrance. Signs in the dental office say that cell phones aren't permitted to be used in it. Signs in the deli and coffee shop state that parrons using cell phones will be ignored.

The Western square is a hotel.

The center square is the embassy.

The Eastern square is a church.

The southwest, south, and southeast squares are office buildings.

Here is IST San Angelo's layout.

Sub-basement Two: Fusion reactor, electrical generator, 2 (10,000 gallon) water tanks, plumming and electrical workshops.

Sub-basement One: Eight holding cells, combat simulation chamber, long-term storage, vault, morgue.

Basement: Receiving dock and associated offices, supplies and storerooms, including the ammo locker.

Ground floor: Newsstand, pay phones, assorted shops.

Second floor: Mechanicals (air conditioning, heat, related environmental systems, including filtering), cellular radio subsystems.

Third floor: Powered infantry barracks, armory, armor shop, parts storage, lockers, off-duty area, firing range.

Fourth floor: Team Administrator's office, other administrative offices, auditorium for press conferences PC network room.

Fifth floor: Personal quarters for IST supers, labs, general reading library, kitchen, dining room, rec room.

Sixth floor: Gymnasium/CSC, showers, converence room, medical area, labs, technical library, command center, vending area, field leader's office,

Roof: Elevator mechanisms, primary satellite dishes, helipad (The roof elevators and elevator mechanisms share a structure on the roof that has exits on the north and south sides, Near the north exit is a nesting box that's home to a family of peregrine falcons. Pigeon bones can be found under it.)

There are a number of important posts mandated by the U.N.'s Committee On Permanent Peacekeeping Forces. They are: Team Administrator, Field Leader (or Team Leader), a Public Relations officer, a Legal Attache, and a Security Chief. Recently, an Intelligence Analyst and Intelligence Agent have been added to the list of positions. The field agent may request a hero, with proper skills, be assigned as an assistant. If so, this hero doesn't count against the regular compliment.

The embassy also has a support staff of over 100 or more people. Many are part of the domestic staff, which is headed by the Majordomo. Under him are the Head Housekeeper, who heads the cleaning staff, the Executive Chef, who runs the kitchen and food service staff, and various maintance technicians. Others are either medical personal (doctors, nurses, and technicians) or trainers. The remainder are the necessary administrative staff any embassy must have. Additionally, there are security officers, including the powered infantry.

Here are some tidbits about the people in the previous post.

Sir John, a native of the United Kingdom, has worked for the U.N. in a number of capacities over the years and Carol, who is legally blind, has been his secretary for most of those years. Currently, they share a two-bedroom suite in the hotel across from the embassy.

Sir John smokes a pipe, enjoys motorsports and peppers his speach with British slang. Carol wears (non-perscription) reading glasses for closeup work and is always accompanied by her devoted guide dog, Ginger, a honey-blonde golden retreiver. (Carol is also a low-powered metahuman and can telepathically communicate with Ginger. By closing her eyes and concentrating, Carol can see through Ginger's eyes. Likewise, by doing the same thing, Ginger can see through Carol's eyes.)

Kuntala, the daughter of an Indian diplomat and her husband, joined the U.N. after graduating from Harvard Law School. She prefers Indian dress to Western clothes.
