AmadanNaBriona
Re: Character: Big Jim Walker So, is this the sign of the beginning of a series of new b string NPC's, all based on ballads? "Well, a hush fell over the pool room when Jim he came boppin' in off the street, And when the cuttin' was done the only part that wasn't bloody Was the soles of the big mans feet. Well, he was cut in about a hundred places, and he was shot in a couple more And you better believe there come a diferent kinda story when Big Jim hit the floor." "It don't pay to be messing around wit' people who are strange to you, even if you do have a two peice custom-made pool cue." Obviously, I like the Jim Croce song. I ran throught the song in my head, and don't see anything obvious missing. Willie "Slim" McCoy, it occurs to me, would probably have a similar write up to that Mac the Knife fellow.... AmadanNaBriona
Re: Character: Big Jim Walker **looks at this notes** Maybe. Heh. I'd say change it up a bit... I'd do Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner myself.

But I was also thinking of Rapid Roy (The Stock Car Boy).

It suddenly hits me that a lot of the ballads I know don't ever give NAMES to the protagonists.

Enforcer84
Re: Character: Big Jim Walker Well they beat me to it. But yeah, I am huge Croce fan. If you ever get a chance to hear it. He does a real nice medly with Chain Gang, Gonna Find her, and He don't love you.
Enforcer84
Re: Character: Big Jim Walker Oh and I mentioned it for For Rapid Roy, but you should write up Slim. He's proabably smaller and quicker than Jim, and he packs a gun and a knife.

McCoy
Re: Character: Big Jim Walker "Big And Dumb As A Man Can Come" just doesn't seem to fit with "Organized crime group overall leader." Seems to me that "They All Call Big Jim Boss" should be interpeted metaphorically, you don't disagree wit Big Jim is different from you follow his orders. I think I would go with extra PRE since he already has plenty of reputation. If you needed another disad I would suggest "overconfident" or "will not back down from a challenge." Would also suggest that from Slim's version of the story a skill in gambling and/or cheating is implied.
Flames
Re: Character: Big Jim Walker Characters from songs written up as NPCs? Geez, there's got to be loads of them. How about August West from the song Wharf Rat? Now there's a guy with some Unluck and a few Soc Lims.

He's described as the "King of 42nd Street" so he seems to be some sort of de-facto "boss" of some sort. I think I'm going to drop the Perk's value and explain in the notes. There will be a new thread with all the edited and fully fleshed out NPCs.

I've always got the vibe that the crowd he's the boss of are the kind of two bit kneecappers who hang around pool halls and occasionally get beat up by Daredevil when he's looking for information. Kind of "Head of outlaw biker gang" level rather than "Mob Boss" level.

CraterMaker
Re: Character: Big Jim Walker Have you heard Darkest Of The Hillside Thickets "Big Robot Dinosaur"? Big Robot Dinosaur Dad's working on something special down in the basement I yelled goodbye as I headed out to wait for the bus At school it's the usual torture Pushed and tripped in the hall Hit in the head with a half eaten orange Facewashed in the snow Got home so fed up and angry My dad came to me Took me down to the basement and said "It's finally ready, son" My senses reeled my heart stood still Before me glowed a glory The Fruit of my father's laborious weekends Towering three or four stories. Behind the shiny candy red skin, the monument hummed its electric tune My dad said "Why don't you climb on in?" and unscrewed the hatch in the back We squirmed through its artificial innards He showed me the controls I watched him struggling to conceal his pride and I said "Papa, let's kill some people" We're on a rampage in a robot dinosaur We're on a rampage in a robot dinosaur -CraterMaker
