Silly Star Hero game idea: Star Mice

NOTE: I am not planning on running this as a campaign, I am merely presenting this as something to think about.

It is said that every ship has its rats, and it would seem that even starships have this problem.

Thijnk in terms of Star Trek, where the ship in question is a combination of explorer vessel and colony ship (at least in ST: TNG). However, not only do we have humans abord, but living within the works are rodents of many different kinds, mostly some form of mouse however. They have even developed their own culture on board the ship, hidden from human eyes.

For example, as the ship stops at various planets and crew members are beamed down to explore, the mice even have their own transporter technology adapted from what the humans have.

Beyond all that, this is basically Star Trek.

How does this idea sound?

Trek meets the Rats of NIMH? It's an interesting premise, as thought-experiments go. How much of Trek tech could the mice use? Do they have tricorders acting as computer mainframes in their burrows? What about phasers? :)

EDIT: My god, what would Klingon mice look like?

They probably would purloin some tri-corders or other handheld computers for the purpose, and phasers would probaby be like laser cannons with a stun setting. Of course, an inventive rodent may find some way to make smaller phasers that can fit in the paws of mice.

Admittedly, there were some mousey inspirations that got this idea up. Childhood classics like Cinderella (back whenm Disney was really good), Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, and Danger Mouse, and the recently discovered, highly obscure cartoon Capitol Critters all had some influence in conceiving this idea.

EDIT: My god, what would Klingon mice look like?

Hopefully not like tribbles. :P

EDIT: Though the really tricky part is scaling HERO system to better suit the scale of mice; where one cat is more dangerous than a trio of klingons.

Re: Silly Star Hero game idea: Star Mice

Of Men and Monsters by William Tenn features humans living in a world where they are as mice to the gigantic alien invaders. It ends

with the human vermin sneaking aboard their ships to go out and colonise the galaxy

. There was another story where humans, who have risen to become the most wide-spread and powerful race in the galaxy, only to to discover

that they are not descendants of the first great interstellar civilisation as they believe, but descendants of their vermin who had carried a plague that wiped them out.

I just wanna know if you guys are going to commission an even bigger computer to determine the question to life, the universe and everything.

More honestly though, the initial thought that I had was that mice get into everything through holes that would normally leak atmosphere... And then they survive on available food-stuffs. You might be able to handwave a lot of that stuff away, but you might want to give some thought to whether or not food and power consumption by your mice is noticible to the larger inhabitants of the ship... With teleporters you don't really have to worry about holes in the bulkheads at least...
